  1. Steamer optimistically projects Trevor Story with 144 games in 2025 after the injury-plagued 32-year-old played in only 163 games over the last three seasons combined: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/trevor-story/12564/stats?position=SS#dashboard
  2. Would anyone trade three years of Masastaka Yoshida at $54 million for two years of Philadelphia right-hander Taijuan Walker at $36 million (as proposed at a Phillies website)? https://www.thegoodphight.com/2024/11/26/24306614/phillies-offseason-trade-ideas-building-depth-and-sustainability Given the glut of designated hitters in Philadelphia, the proposal may make even less sense for the Phillies than for the Red Sox.
  3. This poster is a Kutter Crawford fan who witnessed two quality starts by the right-hander at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. However, Crawford falls short of Bryce Miller’s trade value.
  4. No. The money saved on Logan Gilbert's projected 2025 salary of $8.1 million is not enough to find his replacement for three cost-controlled years (much less to address more pressing infield needs). The proposal ignores Seattle's strengths and weaknesses. The Mariners already have Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, Victor Robles and Luke Raley at OF/1B, leaving little room for Triston Casas and Wilyer Abreu. Steamer projects Marcelo Mayer with a 2025 wRC+ of 88, suggesting that Mayer might not be MLB-ready.
  5. The inclusion of Masataka Yoshida is a likely deal-breaker in any trade negotiations with the Seattle Mariners.
  6. Depends on the definition of MLB-ready. Kristian Campbell has played only 19 games above Double A and Marcelo Mayer has played zero (0) games above Double AA.
  7. The Seattle Mariners are highly unlikely to trade Luis Castillo at a negative value, especially in light of the five-year, $182 million contract reportedly landed by Blake Snell.
  8. Like Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell, Seattle's well-regarded infield prospects probably are not MLB-ready.
  9. Alternatively, Wilyer Abreu could be overvalued as a platoon candidate who posted a wRC+ of 75 after August 15. Each valuation is within the realm of possibility. Abreu indeed could improve the Seattle outfield defense alongside Julio Rodriguez and Victor Robles with Luke Raley moving to first base and Randy Arozarena to designated hitter, However, the Mariners have greater needs in the infield.
  10. Will Luis Castillo's trade value be upgraded after Blake Snell signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers? Castillo, who has a no-trade clause, has three years and $74.5 million remaining on his contract with a vesting option for a fourth year. Snell and Castillo, who were born eight days apart, have each made 211 starts in their MLB careers. Snell has posted 24.5 fWAR and 23.4 bWAR over 1,096.2 innings while Castillo has posted 23.9 fWAR and 24.0 bWAR over 1,230 innings. Over the past four seasons Snell has made 103 starts while Castillo has made 121 starts. Their contrasting 2024 numbers cannot be ignored but at what point does recency bias enter the calculation? Snell may well have the higher ceiling but Castillo has been more durable and reliable. Each quality provides value.
  11. Masataka Yoshida would likely be a deal-breaker in any trade proposal to the Seattle Mariners.
  12. Does Blake Snell's reported contract increase the trade value of Seattle right-hander Luis Castillo? Castillo, who has a no-trade clause, has three years and $74.5 million remaining on his contract with a vesting option for a fourth year. Snell and Castillo, who were born eight days apart, have each made 211 starts in their MLB careers. Snell has posted 24.5 fWAR and 23.4 bWAR over 1,096.2 innings while Castillo has posted 23.9 fWAR and 24.0 bWAR over 1,230 innings. Over the past four seasons Snell has made 103 starts while Castillo has made 121 starts. Snell may well have the higher ceiling but Castillo has been more durable and reliable. Each quality provides value.
  13. The Seattle Mariners won't trade Bryce Miller for spare parts ... quantity won't compensate for the proposed offer's lack of quality.
  14. But Bryan Woo reportedly is not available.
  15. The Red Sox reportedly have brought back Isaiah Campbell and Bryan Mata on minor league contracts: https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2024/11/red-sox-re-sign-two-pitchers-including-ex-top-prospect-hours-after-cutting-them.html
  16. Looking back on the trade of Luis Urias for Isaiah Campbell, Seattle paid Urias $5 million this year to post 0.2 fWAR (0.4 bWAR) in 41 games with the Mariners (in addition to posting decent numbers in 77 games at Triple A). Boston paid Campbell $746,000 to post a negative 0.4 fWAR (-1.2 bWAR) in six appearances with the Red Sox (and a 2.20 ERA in 14 appearances at Worcester). Both players have been cut loose this offseason. Because of the money difference, the frugal Seattle Mariners can't claim a win in the trade.🤨
  17. FWIW Baseball Trade Values has upgraded Triston Casas’ surplus trade value from $18.7 million to $28.4 million.
  18. Many teams can make a Garrett Crochet offer that Baseball Trade Values accepts. With Crochet as the apparent top trade target among starters, the White Sox may wait for an offer that represents an overpay at Baseball Trade Values.
  19. What if the trade proposal subtracts Triston Casas ($18.7 million surplus value) and Luke Raley ($19 million surplus value), who each have four years of team control? https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/175846 Would Randy Arozarena be a better fit than Raley in the proposal?
  20. Seattle is unlikely to trade a starter this offseason although the Mariners might consider a trade of Luis Castillo at a value higher than his BTV's value. This three-way trade proposal involving the Red Sox, Mariners and Rays remains intriguing: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/175846 😁😁😁
  21. Would anyone prefer three less costly years of Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert over an expensive long-term contract for Corbin Burnes? https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/175846 It's curious that Baseball Trade Values assigns Triston Casas (18.7) and Luke Raley (19.0) roughly the same surplus value. Each comes with four year of team control. With his younger age Casas probably has the higher ceiling while Raley has position versatility and better recent production. How would the removal of Casas and Raley impact the trade proposal? Do the Tampa Bay Rays get shortchanged in the proposed trade?
  22. Right-handers started 161 or Seattle's 162 games this year. Of course the Mariners fell short of the postseason where their vaunted starters could have been formidable. Or not.
  23. A podcaster proposes a trade of Garrett Crochet for Wilyer Abreu, Franklin Arias, Yoeilin Cespedes and Wikelman Gonzalez: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3Fl-mZsukA At 8:45.
  24. Should the Red Sox trade Walter Abreu, Kutter Crawford and two prospects for Garrett Crochet? https://fansided.com/mlb-rumors-red-sox-garrett-crochet-trade-white-sox-protecting-big-4 A year ago today Baseball Trade Values assigned Crochet a negative trade value: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/146753
  25. The Red Sox apparently like one British Columbian (Nick Pivetta) better than another British Columbian (Tyler O'Neill).
