    Not true. Oddsmakers also have to take into account the amount of money bet. The Cubs, for example, used to get odds better than usual because they received a significant and disproportional amount of the bets relative to their talent. The Yankees often see the same. And this makes sense. The only purpose of odds is to increase wagering on underdogs. If people are already willingly betting on them, why increase the payouts?

    I like the QS category over wins. It actually makes pitchers on some of the lesser teams a little more appealing. Sure the “ace” of the Pirates (whoever that is) won’t rack up more than 10 or 11 wins, but he might be able to go 6 with 3 ER more often.     The only reason anyone ranks Sanchez as sixth on that staff is the injuries. It’s like calling Sale the Sox sixth starter. (Also, “Sox sixth starter” is a nasty, nasty tongue twister. Try saying it 10 times fast. Go ahead. I dare you.)

    Also if Tampa had a chance to trade for quality prospects, then a deal with Boston makes more sense. It allows them to better their future while simultaneously weakening Boston’s (if only a little). But this looks like a straight salary dump, so why help Boston at all?

    I would think so, but it would require a DFA for someone. Also is Ralph Garza on the radar? One has to wonder why Danish and Garza were placed on the 40 man ahead of Robles. Could be a simple decision to add as many arms as possible. Or it could mean Robles isn’t expected to be ready…
