  1. Not to mention saying 12 blown saves in 52 games implies all but 40 games. Without looking it up, I’m pretty sure the Sox have a game or two with multiple blown saves. But some further analysis would include number of opportunities and team records in games with a blown save. Not all blown saves are losses…
  2. I assume you’re going to keep using that line until someone finds it amusing? It already happened. Back in 1970…
  3. Schreiber strikes me as a guy with a short shelf life…
  4. Presently at .227/.284/.353. 13 HRs is going to take a hot streak, given he presently has one…
  5. Don’t sleep on Alek Manoah, Tarik Skubal and Dylan Cease…
  6. Not as often. But I mentioned Nelson Cruz. Although honestly, maybe 70 IP is a bit early for Joe Ryan’s Cooperstown campaign…
  7. True, although closers are the one position you can really oversell at the trade deadline. Like my Kimbrel example earlier…
  8. The Angels might be a prime example of overpaying for stars. Trout and Rendon make roughly $75mil between them. Then the next highest paid players are Rasiel Iglesias and Aaron Loup. Yes, Aaron Loup.
  9. Maddon might regret being associated, but Trout and Ohtani are the team.
  10. It is possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of players turned to PEDs later in their careers to combat the effects of aging. Especially if they just get frustrated by not being the player they’re used to being…
  11. I didn’t think Steph Curry would be able to play since he’s been kidnapped by the Muppets…
  12. They might have let Vazquez walk had they closed the deal for Stallings. (Or more likely, they would have dealt him to Miami.)
  13. I think if Barnes had been able to bounce back and Sale not gotten hurt, the backend of this bullpen would have been very solid. But with the lockout, Bloom was not able to talk to Barnes or Sale to see how everything was going…
  14. True but in 1991, prospects weren’t valued the way they are today. Salaries were more reasonable, so the need for minimum wage players wasn’t as great. Still was a bonehead trade, of course…
  15. It’s a bit difficult to think of many deals where two months of a player brought back a great return. Nelson Cruz did last season, but most of the bigger names still had over a full season left. Maybe Kimbrel for Madrigal? The A’s did ok dealing Sonny Gray at the deadline. The Orioles got squat for Machado. But who since Bartolo Colon has really brought back a farm-altering return? I’m giving the 2020/2021 teams a pass, since a lot of that is still TBD…
  16. Says the man who sings the praises of the GM that left Whitlock unprotected…
  17. No. That was a fertility drug. Great hitter. Not a very bright man…
  18. Maybe they just need help from the Yankee trainer, some guy named Stan Islozol…
  19. Rental players don’t always bring back the best haul…
  20. I agree. And I think some internal tweaks can make a significant difference in the bullpen…
  21. But they’re also defending champs. That’s gotta count for something
  22. Or get Jeff Bezos into MLB…
  23. The Sox low point this year was 10-19. Since then we’re 15-8…
  24. It does help that Steve Cohen might be worth more than the other 29 owners combined. I don’t think you should expect that from Henry…
  25. Filling 12+ slots guarantees a mess…
