  1. I’ve literally posted dozens of them. I rarely (re: never) attach dollar values, but I do suggest trades that often are at a minimum “fair” on BTV. (I also post ones where Boston overpays, but never ones where the other team does.)
  2. So $37.5mill AAV? Give him too much per year and Kutter Crawford becomes the best #2 that the Sox will pay for…
  3. If Schwarber can for 4 years, does anyone think Philly lets him walk? Last time he signed for only 4 years, he was coming off a season in which he was non-tendered by the Cubs and missed the some time due to injury. (Remember he was on the IL when the Sox acquired him?) This year he put up MVP numbers and has established himself among the best sluggers in the game. Chances are good his contract demands have adjusted accordingly…
  4. So the locks are Story, Anthony, Rafaela, Duran/Abreu and Narvaez. I would add Mayer to this list at either 2b or 3b. This leaves openings at 1b, 2b/3b and DH. I could see DH filled internally with Yoshida or Casas (when ready). I assume you had Mayer as your other “internal option.” So I’m on board with this. Two additions to the lineup. Hopefully one is one of the top FA (Bichette, Bregman, Alonso) or a significant trade acquisition like Ketel Marte (currently not rumored to be available, but might Devers his way out of Arizona).
  5. He is a good pitcher, so I have zero fear of him accepting it. On one level, it makes sense for him as a lucrative value-rebuilding opportunity. But it’s also possible that his recent injuries (something new to him) have him prioritizing years over quick cash.
  6. With my name stop that list, above even Mrs. Pivetta…
  7. That’s why I’ve been suggesting/advocating/yelling into the void for a non-1b slugger like Marte or Bichette or Bregman (my prediction but ultimately last choice on this list). It will be easier to get a discount mashing 1b/DH type than a discount mashing infielder. Some like Hoskins. I prefer Bell. Both will be significantly cheaper than Alonso, who will in turn limit what can be spent on the other infielder. Now if the Sox do get Alonso, my hope would be to trade for non-mashing but hard-hitting Brendan Donovan at 2b, as he was #3(I think?) on the MLBTR trade candidate list….
  8. That 2024 Padres outfield (Profar, Merrill, Tatis) was entirely comprised of shortstops as well. The Sox might just have to live with Story’s declining defense. It is only two years and tolerating decline is part of signing free agents…
  9. And if the Sox use Crawford and the inadvertently omitted Sandoval, they start no rookies…
  10. Only 8 folks in your lineup? Duran/Abreu, Password, Clarke, Harrison. Maybe Bello in the right deal (obviously! “No, let’s move him in the wrong deal!!”) to get a SP and maybe another good RP. One solid PR free agent contract, like Alonso, Bichette, or Bregman. Maybe one lesser deal for a bargain player with impressive metrics (Josh Bell) or a Fenway swing (Rhys Hoskins). Is that too little?
  11. Folks keep talking about losing Duran or Abreu if we deal one of them. Don’t we kinda already know who the replacement is? There is a reason it’s out there that these two are trade bait…
  12. That “noodlebat” team was 7th in MLB in runs scored and 7th to 11th in any metric you choose. Their offense was basically the same as fellow postseason participants Seattle, Milwaukee, and San Diego. Could they improve? Absolutely. But the way it goes on this board, you’d think they had one of the worst lineups in recent MLB history…
  13. Not even if it’s the 4’1” Andrew Vaughn?
  14. How much of the inner workings of Fenway Park are the responsibility of the Red Sox?
  15. The Yankees do have Ryan McMahon, who is an excellent defensive 3b with questionable (but not necessarily horrible) offense and is signed for 2 more years at $32mill. He might not be easily movable, and he might even be able to take advantage of the right field seats in the Bronx. With Grisham and Bellinger leaving and some (lots of) questions in the bullpen, is Bregman on their radar?
  16. The shortest guy on the team at 1b? Yoshida does have all his options and need not be on the roster. But he is a contact hitter and has a .825 OPS in 2024 until he injured his shoulder and slumped out the season. I do get the impression Breslow isnt a huge fan, so there is the possibility he is traded (for not much) or released…
  17. He would have plenty of opportunity in places like Tampa and Pittsburgh that platoon a lot of lower cost players. I am not a fan of platooning anywhere but DH, but if he’s on the Boston bench, he absolutely has his uses…
  18. You think Painter (who has already had 1 TJ) is worth more than 4 years of an outfielder who has posted 13.3 bWAR in the last 2 seasons? Will Painter be worth 13.3 bWAR total in the next 4 seasons? I think some folks drastically undervalue Duran…
  19. Maybe, but it’s also fairly safe to assume he isn’t using his own money…
  20. Cohen’s probably not losing anything on this. He didn’t accrue some $15-20billion in net worth by accepting financial losses personally…
  21. I see others are pursuing my questions…
  22. Don’t these teams have other operating costs not related to the aggregate total of the salaries of 40 employees?
  23. 1. Hopefully not Suarez. At that point, pay up for Alonso and a pitcher (R Suarez? Cease? King?) and trade an OF for a 3b or 2b, which is probably easier than dealing one for a pitcher. I doubt we have a clue on the real budget, however. 2. Hopefully they don’t trade Campbell. They had enough faith to extend him, but he’s no longer needed after a stretch of 110 bad PA?
