  1. Really? I know people like to use the stick line “injuries are an excuse; every team has injuries.” But that’s the cop out. Not all injuries are equal, and losing Chris Sale for an entire year absolutely impacts a team much more than losing Harrison Bader for 3 weeks…
  2. The worst of these deals wasn’t tradable. At no point in Chris Sale’s 5 year $145mill contract was he healthy enough for any team to even stay on the phone. I’ve heard some before say Bloom should have traded a lot of these deadweight deals. Look what it took to unload half of Price. Who wants more trades like that? Do we even have a player good enough to make another team consider taking Sale? Eovaldi was awesome in 2021 and trading him before 2022 would have been an massive PR hit. Heck, trading Renfroe didn’t go over well, and it didn’t help that Binelas turned out to be a 22yo guy with a .630 OPS in AA. Of course, what everyone forgot is Renfroe at age 22 had a .670 OPS in AA. So I not sure that deal was as lopsided as many claim. Really the only tradable was Martinez, who has been declining over the past 3 years in every category except salary…
  3. Bradley, too. He absolutely made some contract mistakes. But making a mistake on a 2 year $20 mill contract isn’t in the same league as making one on a 5 year $145 mill contract…
  4. That’s why if he does hit the market (which I doubt), I hope Bloom passes. Players who struggled to stay healthy in their 20s rarely fare better in their 30s…
  5. This “cliff” was accurately predicted on this board for years. It’s inevitable when you have a bunch of expensive long term deals and no farm to kick in minimum wage support…
  6. Paxton wasn’ta good one for Bloom, either. At least not yet…
  7. And if those multi year deals are loaded with lots of money and no performance, how is that the fault of the guy who inherited them? Sale, Price, Eovaldi and Martinez were about $81mill in AAV on that payroll and contributed a total of 1.3 fWAR. Or roughly half of what Trevor Story kicked in, which he did for a little over a quarter of the cost. Price, Eovaldi and Martinez are (hopefully) all gone after this year. Sale could easily continue to be a burden but hopefully he can contribute at some point. But he’s not on Bloom…
  8. And Diekman, but the 4 of them only account for roughly $40mill and still kicked in roughly 2.4 fWAR. That’s less money and more fWAR than the combination of Sale and Price…
  9. Or, he isn’t. His 35.7 fWAR before age 31 ranks 175th in the last 90 years, just ahead of Darrell Porter, Ryan Braun, JD Drew and Curtis Granderson. He trails Matt Williams, Christian Yelich, and Lenny Dykstra in this regard. He’s too old and missed too much time to last long enough for the Hall, unlike Winfield who also did bash 3,000 career hits, which at the time was automatic ticket to Cooperstown…
  10. That already happened. Who are the non-contributing big money players on that $230mill payroll?
  11. Bogaerts? Your all time greats list included Bogaerts? Over Rice, Evans, Nomar, Papi, Rico, and Pedroia? Bogaerts ranks 18th in fWAR for the Sox over the last 90 years, behind Dom DiMaggio…
  12. He meant as an owner. What owner has been better for the Sox in the past 90 years?
  13. Ok. But who ultimately executes a training regimen? You don’t even say the training regimens were faulty here…
  14. Are you saying the medical staff is causing these injuries?
  15. Eating peas in itself is just a sign of poor decision-making. Plus he went to Vanderbilt. When was the last time the Sox had a Vanderbilt alum that worked out? David Price? Yeah. Good argument! Not to mention - by going to Vanderbilt, that means Swanson is a former Commodore. Know who else is a former Commodore? LIONEL RICHIE!! Do you really want a shortstop who thinks Sunday mornings are easy while he’s dancing on the ceiling? No Dansby Swanson!
  16. So what do you want in a medical staff? Someone who can steal Sale’s bike? I’ve seen people complain about the medical staff on forums for far too long, probably through several dozen trainers and doctors. But somehow each and every one was incompetent, probably because players still got hurt. Folks - players getting injured is not the fault of the medical staff. When you stub your toe at home or cut yourself shaving, do you blame your doctor then, too? Their athletes doing physical things and that can cause physical pain. It’s part of sports…
  17. No Swanson. Here’s the thing. His real name is James. As in James Dansby Swanson. He could have been Jimmy Swanson, Boy Hero. Or Jim Swanson. Or even JD Swanson. But he chose to go by Dansby. Of all the options, he chose to spent his life being referred to like he was the upper class foppish villain in a Dickens novel. That shows poor decision-making skills. And I don’t want a shortstop with poor decision-making skills
  18. And should the Sox sign Bogaerts? He is having a great season in the surface, minus the power numbers. But he’s also striking out more than ever, walking less than ever, hitting the ball hard less often than ever, hitting fewer barrels than ever. But he does have that BABIP thing. And he has stepped up the D, which is good…
  19. It’s because the pen failed to hold the lead. That’s what is memorable. Granted, it gets easier to hold bigger leads, but the Sox really do need to replace about 3-4 bullpen pitchers next season…
  20. True, but Barnes was not an inherited problem. Bloom did create the Barnes/Bradley financial issues for himself…
  21. Bard was better this year than any of the free agents mvp listed, except Montero maybe Robertson. Of course, he did omit Fulmer.
  22. He was 8 for 9 in save chances and really, the ninth inning issues for this team were largely in check while he was closing. However this really magnified how bad a lot of the 6-8th inning pitchers were. And especially the 10th inning, although some of that might be on Cora, who seemed to like Barnes in that role for far too long…
  23. Was Houck unreliable?
  24. Bullpen after the top 3 (Houck, Whitlock, and Schreiber). Agreed. I’m ok with what little we’ve seen from Kelly, too. Winckowski and/or Crawford, if not dealt, might settle into the bullpen, too. Barnes will probably be back, but not because he’s needed. Hopefully we’re seeing the final Sox games for Brasier, Ort, Danish, and Strahm. Please no more Brasier. I’ve been on that wagon since 2019…
  25. Why would the Rockies trade Bard? The Rockies are not a team that makes deals to dump salary or have fire sales to get prospects, even when they should…
