  1. At least he stopped justifying emptying the farm based on the prospects’ performance. I’m sure Kopech’s emergence and Espinal’s All Star appearance has nothing to do with that. There’s nothing wrong with supporting the 2018 victory in defense of these deals. But pretending they aren’t still debts, bad contracts and less farm left over from that spending binge is flat out ignorant. 2018 was great. But the Sox are still paying some of the bills. Not the GMs fault…
  2. The important thing to remember here is dgalehouse will be the first poster to tell you how respectful he is of others’ opinions and how he doesn’t engage in derogatory behavior.
  3. But tearing everything down would be stupid. The Sox are being dragged down by a few contracts they will never be able to move, like Sale. And some would say, Story. Moving Devers to cover this would be stupid…
  4. The 2007 Sox were hardly homegrown. Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, Lester. And maybe some ancillary pieces. I think Ellsbury debuted, but he wasn’t central…
  5. At the time last July, Duran had roughly the same value as Berrios on BTV. I pointed this out and wanted that deal done. That, as far as I know, is the one and only link. No one has stated Minnesota (or any team) wanted Duran. But that statement does show how incredibly stupid Stork is. He’s trying to blame Bloom for overvaluing Duran, but he’s doing so in a way that says “lots of GMs overvalued Duran and would give up a top tier starter for him.” But Bloom was the problem? And the weird part is, he probably still won’t understand that…
  6. An equivalent package from Boston per BTV would have been Casas, Yorke and Mata…
  7. No one has ever needed Bob Lobel. Not ever…
  8. Well to date we’ve heard 1. JD Martinez is widely rumored to be available, and 2. The Sox are still trying to make a playoff push. I wouldn’t call being buyers and sellers an option; I’d call it Today’s Plans…
  9. He’s really not doing that. He’s just pointing out the real end of the Betts Saga. I have probably been DD’s biggest critic, but I do acknowledge he made Betts a very fair - and some say ridiculous - offer, just that Mookie wanted more. Extending Betts didn’t happen under DD. Moving Betts happened under Bloom…
  10. But MADSTORK said we could have had Berrios for Duran. As far as I know, the only person suggesting that that deal was even a possibility was me and it was based solely on BTV valuations. I never saw anything anywhere indicating Minnesota had even the slightest interest in Duran. And Toronto’s offer also looked helluva lot better….
  11. $217 million counts as “splurging” under every definition of the word. If you like, the cumulative ROI for the roughly $650mill spent on those players is one ring (and counting)…
  12. “And the completely mindless troll on anonymous message boards” - notin
  13. His name sounds like Beat-ER, not Beat-EE. He’s the administrator, not the recipient. This is not former Yankee RHP Jim….
  14. The ROI on Sandoval, Hanley, Rusney, Price, and Sale?
  15. Credibility doesn’t pay the bills. Ratings do…
  16. JD (who matches up with Bellinger, not Eovaldi) and Eovaldi for Bellinger and AA RHP Clayton Beeter…
  17. Apocalyptic?
  18. On BTV, Eovaldi has the roughly the same value as Cody Bellinger. Bellinger is a bizarre case as he has gone from MVP to non-tender candidate. The Dodgers might actually consider moving him. (Might? Yeah right! If they find a taker, he gone.) But would/should the Sox even bother? The cons (pricey, non-productive) do outweigh the pros (former MVP capable of monstrous numbers and short term deal)….
  19. Refsnyder strikes me as the type of player we look at today and think “he needs to be back next year!” But by June 2023, we might just as easily think “why did this team keep Refsnyder again?” He’s a fungible bench bat having a good season. His future with the Sox won’t faze me either way…
  20. I like Verdugo far more than Duran and I think people just gave up on him in RF too quickly. He won’t be Mookie but he will be better than a lot of other options, including the dear departed Renfroe. But Duran’s defense has been a massive disappointment. I’m ok with the up and down offense at this stage. I like the speed on the bases. But I’d rather see Franchy in CF than Duran, and I’m not at all advocating the Sox give CF to Franchy…
  21. Research? Do you think MADSTORK researches stuff? Just make up stuff and criticize everything ….
  22. I think he’s a good player with the ability to become a much better player…
  23. It had ramifications from April all the way to October!! If that isn’t “long term”….
  24. So….. I should be on other message boards trying to influence other GMs? Nice try!!
  25. The Sox shouldn’t just hold Verdugo for the sake of making the trade look better. But it’s also too early and IMO easy to just write him off based on some superficial stats….
