  1. None of the Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins play in the summer months. Many if not most fans already support multiple teams…
  2. An optimist would say that means he’s well-rested…
  3. Go re-read your post. You list the AL East teams and after them say “That leaves only a few AL buyers….” And go on to list the Central teams, and then say Bloom will have to focus on the NL. I don’t think anyone misread your post. You do specifically say Bllom will have to focus on the NL. That does mean you don’t think he should focus on the AL East teams…
  4. The postseason has nothing to do with the division titles you cited. Apparently the original goal post location was not to your liking?
  5. I’d take him over Renfroe, and we nearly went to the WS with him in RF…
  6. Based on what? His -2.1 UZR/150 in 636 innings suggests he is “slightly below average” in the position. It’s not ideal, but hardly a defensive deathnail…
  7. Three straight titles justifies Price? He was basically along for the ride on the last two. His first year in Boston, he was worth 4.4 fWAR. His last three totaled 6.2 fWAR. He did come up big in the postseason in 2018, finally putting his shaky October career behind him…
  8. I’m the opposite. The Sox gave up a lot for Sale, but those first couple seasons, he was absolutely worth it. But signing him to a limiting AAV while he was injured was foolish. Especially since he hasn’t done anything since, which was alway a possibility. And if Sale misses the rest of 2022, that deal will have cost $72mill for 48 IP. It would be $90mill for 48 IP, but I pro-rated 2020. But hey, only 2 years $55mill left (at a $29mill AAV for tax purposes). This deal is rapidly approaching being Panda Bad…
  9. Why do you eliminate AL East teams? If you’re giving up and selling off the season, the most sensible move is to trade WITH division rivals. You can create a situation where you improve your future while simultaneously weakening theirs…
  10. Exactly and we know whether or not it has any steam…
  11. The play of Duran in CF should actually justify the Bradley trade even more. I get moving on from Bradley, but if the Sox can win 5 or 6 of these next 7, should they still sell? And if not, put Bradley in CF and bat him 9th and maybe fewer sac flies turn into inside-the-park grand slams…
  12. It looked worse on TV because Verdugo didn’t even get on screen for a second or two, but what it did do regardless of his apparent complacency was solidify everything we’ve heard about his OF defense…
  13. JBJ isn’t the future either, but he does have an option. Refsnyder’s past has shown this is likely an enjoyable SSS blip for a player whose ceiling is weak side platoon option…
  14. 1. The Schwarber-JDM wasn’t a decision by the Sox; it was by the players. One guy chose free agency; the other chose to stay. 2. The Sox didn’t decide to keep Cordero and Dalbec at first. They just ended up there. The plan (to me anyway) was Shaw/Dalbec platoon eventually/hopefully leading to Casas. Shaw and Casas had various issues that put Cordero back in the picture. And given Dalbec’s last 3-1/2 months last year, was he really a bad option?
  15. I don’t get the idea of being in both Sell Mode and Play Refsnyder Mode. Refsnyder is a 31yo AAAA journeyman. He’s the present, not the future…
  16. That’s fine. My policy is to never get excited over anyone in A ball. I only even notice them in AA, which IMO is the most important step…
  17. The 2019 team had 4 players at $90mill combined. And 4 more combining for $60mill. History might work for them here. Especially as they’re poised for more minimum wage players that the 2019 team…
  18. Understandable but Downs does clearly have the better arm. Also understandable, but there was no one else. Refsnyder was reportedly banged up Cordero at 1b is an experiment that needs to end. He was never the plan, and it’s time to remember that. And he might once he is ready again…
  19. No one hated Sale in 2018. But extending him while he was injured has proven disastrous…
  20. A fire sale? A fire sale actually makes the least amount of sense. (My view of a firesale is dealing away more than just expiring contracts.) And again, the team is decimated by injuries and still only 3 games out? How much do you want to unload before some of the injured players return?
  21. Players on the IL can be often are traded at the deadline. Schwarber last year, for example…
  22. Is your goal highest payroll?
  23. I am. I’m on the “acquire longer term MLB players” wagon, like maybe Christian Walker. I don’t care if they unload any of Eovaldi, Wacha, Hill, Strahm, Martinez. I’d try to keep Bogaerts. But he’s have to learn a new position…
  24. I don’t think that’s where he’s going. If his point is getting good players limits you in the rest of your lineup, then you’re better off not having them. For example, if the Sox had retained Mookie, we’d have no Bogaerts and probably no Sale (who has admittedly been a health nightmare and bad contract). What’s going on with this team is they know they are limited to how many superstars they can afford long term, and therefore find it necessary to compliment them with min wage or dirt cheap players who are actually good. The trouble is figuring who these players will be. And
  25. Manny and the first ARod deal were both rarities in that the players were good for the life of the deal. Part of the reason is Manny was roughly the same age as Mookie but signed for 4 fewer years, and that was a product of the times. 8 year deals were considered crazy back then…
