  1. Can’t you say that about most GMs? Especially the ones whose primary job isn’t shedding payroll…
  2. I was saving those for when Dan Vogelbach becomes an option at 1b…
  3. My other option was it was like upgrading from Days Inn to EconoLodge. But that lacked any real power…
  4. Is Dominic Smith even an upgrade over Cordero? Defensively he is, but only on the same way the syphilis is an upgrade over HIV…
  5. The main reason to trade for Soto is he is the perfect replacement for a team that took a PR beating for trading Betts, especially since that was a straight up financial move. The funny thing is, had the Sox kept Betts and let him walk, the PR hit would be less as it would have at least made a lot of people blame the departure on Mookie and his “unreasonable” contract demands. (And no one seems to acknowledge that signing Betts back then potentially meant losing Bogaerts after 2019.) Certainly acquiring Soto would at least restore some fan base faith that the Sox will pay for superstar talent. But on this case, would t that be able to extend Devers? And how much potential minimum wage talent (that would become even more necessary) would have to go just to get the rights to negotiate with Soto? I’d love Soto in Boston, but the overall price just looks too prohibitive…
  6. 1. Conforto is a free agent. 2. Conforto hasn’t swung a bat in nearly a year. 3. Conforto hasn’t swung a bat well in nearly 2 years.
  7. Don't start again. If you wantto make stupid vaccnine jokes, I don't care. If you wan to talk about theeffect of vaccinations on the AL East, permissible IMO, but step carefully. If you want to use the forum to spread your beliefs regarding medical and political issues, please find another forum. There are millions of them on the internet. Start by googling...
  8. But only because of a national refusal to vaccinate Quebec. I don’t blame them either. Quebec is the Texas of Canada…
  9. Yes. You only trust metric vaccinations…
  10. Both are less than productive, but Bogaerts especially has never been an RBI machine…
  11. Is Verdugo really a disaster in RF? He does have the arm, and a -2.7 UZR/150 is not ideal, it’s basically just below average…
  12. That depends. How much does Xander want? And does signing Xander influence signing Devers? (From a financial standpoint.)
  13. There are 11 games between now and the deadline. (Game 2 against Houston starts after the deadline.) Going 4-7 or worse over those games - all against teams in the postseason hunt - would leave the Sox at .500 and certainly makes selling more realistic. But what is unrealistic is waiting out all 11 games to decide. Trades don’t just happen after two GMs bounce around names for 10 minutes until they agree. Contracts need to be reviewed by lawyers. Players with NTCs or 10-5 rights need to grant permission. And probably a ton of other paperwork. So a decision probably has to be made earlier. No idea how much earlier. Unless Bloom can get started on both paths simultaneously and just rubber stamp deals at the last minute…
  14. They’re an admitted long shot, but I don’t think selling makes sense. Rental prices for Eovaldi and Bogaerts may not even exceed draft pick comps. I’d add some pieces, preferably non-rental, and stay in the hunt. And maybe it gets easier if another borderline contender goes into sell mode…
  15. I think we’ve all resigned to the fact that the Sox are not winning the AL East. But the only team in the East that scares me in the postseason is Toronto, and that’s due to the vaccination status of a couple key players…
  16. They’re 4-8 against the Yankees. By your argument they can’t beat them and are just hoping to make a run in the playoffs
  17. But the core of those teams isn’t good enough anyway, and teams can trade contracts besides the expiring ones. Should the Jays go heavy on Soto? The status quo isn’t good enough now. Why will it be next year?
  18. Tampa and Toronto are a combined 7-15 vs the Yankees and therefore cannot win a series against them. This means neither team can win it all. Should both be sellers?
  19. What is wrong with making a run in the playoffs?
  20. Walker is also an excellent candidate…
  21. Yes. From outside. Joey Gallo would be an upgrade but a third team and separate deal would have to happen. Maybe more like. Tommy Pham/Robbie Grossman type…
  22. Given their lack of OF depth, I’m not sure Myers is all that available…
  23. His pan may have already flashed…
  24. Predicting the future is not easy work. Ask any weatherman…
