  1. But it’s never slowed anyone down…
  2. And neither is the last to blaze that trail. KC will be back. His biggest obstacle right now is that he is 5th or 6th on the OF depth chart, depending on how they rank him compared to Password…
  3. And you think they will never learn from that? They could simply fill 3b, which then fills second by default. And they did trade Chris Sale in an attempt to fill 2b once upon a time. They could have dumped even more salary by not trying to fill it…
  4. If only he had sucked at one level. His rapid ascent is not uncommon for players with Division I college backgrounds.
  5. And the pluses were his performances and extreme athleticism…
  6. Hopefully they don’t return Hamilton/Romy at 2b and try to upgrade there. But I have 0 doubts Mayer platoons somewhere. Cora platoons wherever possible. He was even platooning Casas at 1b last year, and Casas has always hit LHP as well as he hits RHP…
  7. Yeah but that could have been part of what he was learning. I like the Matt Shaw comp here. The Cubs handed Matt Shaw 3b. He struggled and got demoted. Then the Cubs tried to fill 3b with a combo of Jon Berti and Vidal Brujan, which was worse. Part of why the Cubs recalled Shaw was that Berti/Brujan was worse than Shaw’s growing pains. Did the Sox have an equivalent position for Campbell?
  8. I figure on him because long on Alonso is probably going to be shorter than long on Bregman or Bichette. But signing either of those two does leave 1b open for cheap potential production guys like Hoskins, Bell, Casas (if healthy), Lowe, etc…
  9. A big part might have been his lack of a position…
  10. Campbell didn’t hurt his cause by destroying pitching at every level. There was a reason they offered him the extension, too..,
  11. Was? Theyre still here. We have a poster using the moniker “Duran is the Man”, for one. I mean, he’s not even subtle about it…
  12. Lots of people threw Duran trade suggestions around last off-season, largely because he was a good player with no real position and others were banging down the door, as you said.. I liked how he matched up on BTV with Cristofer Sánchez. (DD probably didn’t.). I also knew any trade was unlikely…
  13. Cora will keep Mayer at 2b or 3b so he can platoon him with Romy. Look in your heart. You know it to be true…
  14. Probably would have if he accepted playing 1b…
  15. Did you just rename this team the Boston Strawmen? The Sox are likely to only add 2 hitters, most likely a 1b and another who plays 2b or 3b. I’d be surprised if they added a DH, despite the demands on countless forums. Yoshida had a .825 OPS in August, 2024, when he suddenly dropped off a Cliff, quite possibly because that was when he tore his shoulder. If he really can maintain that .825, is he really a slap hitter limited to singles? Just because he doesn’t strike out much? Joe DiMaggio didnt strike out much, but that doesn’t mean he was the prequel to Luis Arraez. In fact, how many slap hitter gave a .825 OPS?
  16. #3 spot in the order doesn’t go to top mashers anymore. Not since some figured out 3 spot hitters come up with 2 outs and no one on more often than any other spot in the lineup…
  17. Lawlor was moving off short regardless, since they extended defensive whiz kid Perdomo. But I thought 3b or 2b (if they’re move Marte) might be in his future. It does appear that will not be the case…
  18. MLBTR predicted 5 years $90mill for Naylor and 4 yrs $110mill for Alonso…
  19. If they’re moving Lawlor to CF, that speaks about not only their OF depth, but the weaknesses of their INF prospects. They didn’t call Lawlor up to replace Suarez after dealing the latter and instead went with Blaze Alexander at 3b, despite Blaze not hitting since ST 2024. Much like Boston, their INF is in disarray. Perdomo is a lock at SS. They have the mercurial Marte at 2b on days he decides to play. But Pavin Smith and Nobody Knows at the corners?
  20. If they trade Sox add Alonso and Williams, that helps a lot. Sure, Fitts to the BP makes sense, and hopefully Slaten returns to 2024 form. But Williams wouldn’t be replacing them; he’d be taking the roster spot of someone like Criswell in the bullpen. He might put Whitlock, Slaten and/or Fitts into roles that come in earlier, but thats far from a bad thing…
  21. If Yoshida reverts to a low strikeout .825 OPS guy, is that a bad thing?
  22. I think putting Schwarber at 1b is worse. Rafaela is above average at 2b and Duran could play CF. Both have experience there. Schwarber has rarely played 1b, and not at all since 2021. And Philly chose to play Harper over him at 1b at a time when DHing Harper made more sense…
  23. Anthony did play CF almost exclusively in the minors. He’s no Rafaela out there, but that doesn’t mean he’s Dwayne Hosey…
  24. I think that's most likely. Preceded by a trade of either Duran or Abreu. A trade of Garcia might happen as well, but is probably a long shot before the season.
  25. Two more, both correct. Rice and Evan’s, both members of the 1975 and 1986 Red Sox. Yes, Rice didnt play in 1975, but he was on the team and eligible for a ring Unfortunately due to faulty research on my part, there is no fifth one. Ironic, because he was the first guy I thought of - even before Springer. And the main reason he came to mind first is he is the Unrivaled King of Postseason Collapses, having played on so many of them. I was thinking Kenny Lofton, who was part of the 1999 Indians, 2002 Giants, 2003 Cubs and 2004 Yankees, and probably a few others. And it’s not like he’s ever really bad. But calling him unlucky feels like an understatement . He’s the MLB-equivalent of having a black cat cross your path while you’re walking under a ladder. Causing you to drop your mirror. On Friday the 13th But 1997 was the one year he spent in Atlanta. Not collapsing anything. So somehow, he was only part of the 2002 Giant from this list…
