  1. Andrus does well in Outs Above Average, but Bloom appears to prefer Defensive Runs Saved…
  2. You have to get players when they’re available. And “worst to first” isn’t even uncommon anymore…
  3. So far there’s no indication the Marlins are looking to dump Garcia or Soler. The only rumors about what they want is someone to bolster their lackluster offense. If that’s true, Casas makes sense for them, as he’s a likely upgrade over the NPCs they had at 1b last year. It also could mean they have little to no interest in Rafaela, as his offense is still in question. And probably very little in Bleis, who’s just too far away to help. It’s tough to find a good obvious match beyond Casas, unless they simply gamble that Rafaela can hit but at least know he can upgrade their CF position.
  4. IMO no. Verdugo and Duran’s footspeed are the only tradable commodities there. I don’t think that combo gets you the lesser Marlins’ pitchers, let alone Lopez. If the Sox want to hold Casas - and they should for two years of Lopez - the bidding has to begin with Ceddane Rafaela and progress from there…
  5. Not to mention, he turns 27 in March. Not like he’s on the downside of his career…
  6. The Marlins signed Cueto. Noteworthy because no team needed MLB pitchers less than the Marlins…
  7. I think his overall point was Arroyo isn’t worth much in a trade. And he isn’t. But we all know where he’ll be come April…
  8. All that was said is the 2022 Red Sox won 78 games. Did they or didn’t they?
  9. Be fair. Most of Godfather III was unforgivable…
  10. Sale is basically his replacement. Both are oft-injured starting pitchers. Eovaldi has been more reliable of late…
  11. Ok I rest my case on the “all last place teams…” thing. I never said they were anything but a last place team. Rather I’ve acknowledged a more accurate representation of this squad and not tried to make sure no one sees anything but “last place”. Or the even more misleading “the even finished behind the Orioles.” While they did finish behind them, the Orioles were a pretty good team that finished with a better record than half the league. You even tried to assert the 68 win Rangers were better positioned to make a run because they finished in 4th place, despite 1. the Rangers won 10 fewer games than Boston 2. The Rangers finished 10 games further out of the postseason than Boston and 3. The Rangers finished 17 games further off the division lead than Boston. The Sox need to improve. But 78 wins is a much better starting point than 65 wins. I would think that would be obvious…
  12. Oh I never said the Sox can depend on him. But I do think the 2023 season depends heavily on his recovery. If Sale can make a decent amount of starts, it greatly increases the likelihood of making the postseason. If he contributes less than 50 IP once again, the chances go down significantly…
  13. Says the leader of the “all last place teams finished 55-107 or worse” mafia. Please highlight any and all inaccuracies in my post…
  14. And because some folks like to act as though all last place teams finished with records of 55-107 or worse. Last place or not, the Sox won 78 games. They missed the postseason by 8 games, which is fewer than the number of extra inning losses they had. Not to mention the blown saves in the ninth inning. Since the league added Central divisions, only 4 teams have finished in last place with as many as 78 wins. The Red Sox, who did it in 2015 and 2022, are the only team to do so since 2006, when the Mariners won 78 and finished in last. (The 2005 Nationals finished last with a record of 81-81 as the only other team.) Last time the Sox did this, they followed up with 3 straight AL East titles. Obviously that shouldn’t be the expectation here, but an improvement of 8 games or so to get into the postseason isn’t exactly a ridiculous expectation. Certainly a lot had to go right, as it does for any pennant winning team. And this current team still has a glaring middle infield hole, and could probably use more pitching depth. But we’re not looking at a team that has 38 games to make up, either…
  15. I didn’t predict anything with regards to Sale. I made a conditional statement…
  16. Eovaldi and Wacha combined for 43 starts. If the Sox get 43 combined starts out of Sale and Paxton, that should be a marked improvement…
  17. As I overtly stated mine was in a fantasy world, nobody got hurt. But it did knock enough sense into Bauer that he finally expressed some remorse over his incidents. Now whose is more Christian?
  18. Why you gotta smear Adrian Balboa like that?
  19. Or that Judge hits a rocket off Bauer’s skull, but it pops in the air and floats into the glove of Sox shortstop Carlos Correa. I mean, if we’re in a fantasy world where Bauer is on the Sox, why stop there?
  20. I’d do it. Unless I was GM of the Marlins…
  21. Is Bogaerts really a “generational talent” at shortstop? Excellent player? Absolutely. But I think that term might be getting thrown around a bit liberally…
  22. Harmony simply made a generic statement. Sure it may not apply to every individual instance, but overall I agree
  23. Think Devers plays third for the next decade? He’ll be in a new position by 2025…
  24. I did. But let’s not confuse incarceration with the inability to play in MLB. Teams also have the right to decline his services. Pursuit of a baseball career involves the rights of multiple parties. Incarceration doesn’t. Bauer would also be free to pursue employment in any of the dozens of other leagues in the world. And I also said, deserving or not, Bauer will get another chance in MLB. At least for this one season. After this year, he will no longer cost anyone the league minimum and his appeal will dwindle even further…
  25. He opted out of 1 year at $6.5mill. He might only be looking for a second guaranteed year at whatever his rate is…
