  1. So you’re saying justice for victims supercedes stripping someone’s rights away?
  2. The biggest comforting factor there is the Sox do have more depth this season. Bello, Mata, Crawford, Walter, Winckowski, and Murphy are all lined up for starts if/when any of Sale/Paxton/Kluber/Whitlock/Pivetta go down. That’s much greater depth than last year, when the lack of depth became exposed before the season. The best way to further enhance this depth would be to add another RP or two, preferably from the shockingly still unemployed set of Andrew Chafin, Michael Fulmer and Reyes Moronta…
  3. No. Because if an innocent person goes to jail, then the real guilty party quite often goes free, and then you both scenarios. Acquitting a guilty person doesn’t necessarily mean convicting an innocent one…
  4. Actually it looks like Garrett is not so available. Not that it matters. I’d deal Rafaela for Cabrera, but not so sure Miami would. No way Rafaela and a lesser prospect gets you a better Miami pitcher. I don’t think Boston makes sense as a trading partner, unless Miami likes a package built around Verdugo…
  5. I agree with you. Just quoted your post because it was last and on topic. Vazquez didn’t get a $30mill contract because the Twins see him as a backup…
  6. That trade was not about upgrading Maldonado; it was about replacing Jason Castro, who was out with what turned out to be a career-ending knee injury. Castro’s interim replacement Korey Lee just wasn’t cutting it…
  7. It’s interesting we consider Story a question mark due to a flexor strain (which can heal, by the way). Yet JD, who also had a flexor strain, is considered a loss…
  8. True. Basically they let the pitchers throw to the guy they were used to. On the other hand, maybe McGuire was miscast as a backup, too…
  9. And while Yoshida is a question as a replacement, sometimes the answer to that question is “abso-f*ckin’-lutely!!” I don’t think the Sox season hinges on replacing Bogaerts with Yoshida. The success of 2023 could and should live or die with the Sox rotation…
  10. While true, that’s very common in rape and sexual assault cases. And in the case of a singular allegation, there can certainly be doubt since it’s not uncommon for them to have sinister origins. But when multiple women come forward, that absolutely changes everything. Just because there were no charges does not necessarily mean less in this case. Los Angeles is walking away from this guy for a reason, and they still owe him the balance on a $34mill AAV contract…
  11. I don’t think he deserves one. I do think he will get one…
  12. There’s a big difference in believing some players deserve second chances and believing they will get second chances…
  13. The ‘22 Sox won 78 games with no pitching depth and a lot of pitching injuries. The lineup wasn’t really the problem. Yoshida, Casas and whoever plays SS/2b should improve a pretty good offense that lost Bogaerts, Cordero and Bradley. The bullpen does look like it should be a lot better. Turner (116) had roughly the same OPS+ as JD (117). So that’s pretty much a push at DH. The rotation largely rests on Sale and Paxton. They might have a little more starter depth this year, but probably not enough, as they’re likely to tap into it quickly…
  14. Because he has a skill many are willing to pay for. In that respect, so does Bauer. The Dodgers were able to let him walk because they have plenty of others with similar skillsets. But lots of teams don’t. I picked the Mets earlier on this thread, mostly because they’ve exhibited a “win at any cost” attitude all off-season, but it was very unfair of me to do so, because I don’t know that they prioritize winning over supporting players like Bauer. But I do think some team will give him a chance. Would Boston? No idea. They are certainly in a position to need his skills, but I don’t know how they feel about him, given the PR nightmare he could be. But I also don’t think picking up players like Pham and McGuire suggests they are willing to ignore any and all off field issues…
  15. Once you get down to the level of allegations against Osuna, second chances are rife. Brett Myers is a prime example. And Marcell Ozuna is still an active player as we type…
  16. I normally don’t like dealing for players, since they’re all different. But I bet one thing they might all agree on is not having all of their transgressions placed under a microscope. Sure players like Bauer and Russell and F. Vasquez do deserve it, but the whole Pham thing has gotten more mentions on this thread than it should have on the entire internet. At the end of the day, do you want a team of baseball players or alter boys? Because there’s probably a lot less overlap than you think. A lot less. You’re criticizing management for evaluating players using values and money instead of like human beings, but following up with treating any and all public issues as equally reprehensible. If you want players judged as humans, than admit humans make mistakes and these can be forgiven and forgotten. This is more about players like Pham and McGuire. Bauer, Russell and F Vasquez deserve what they get…
  17. Vazquez had 2 months left with Boston. And I don’t think the front office figured him to be as good as his contract demands, or at the very least did not value some aspect of his game. They tried to acquire Jacob Stallings before the season, after all…
  18. Now when Bloom signs Addison Russell and Felipe Vasquez, we can make comps to Bauer…
  19. To play baseball. In Pham’s case, it was a matter between him and Joc Pederson. And maybe Mike Trout. That it’s ever been mentioned again is just giving it much more attention than it deserves…
  20. I think you’re trying to connect a bunch of transactions that are not linked at all and absolutely not for the criteria you mention. Betts wasn’t traded to bring in Pham at a reduced value. Vazquez want traded to accommodate McGuire…
  21. Not to mention, the Sox haven’t acquired Bauer. Or even expressed passing interest. Although you’d never guess that from this thread…
  22. I’m calling it now - Bauer to the Mets…
  23. The thing about Bauer is - he wasn’t all that likable even before all the SA allegations…
  24. I’d sign him. And then put him in the lifeboat in the middle of the Atlantic with no food or fresh water but plenty of chum…
  25. Soxprospects.com seems to just be anticipating a shortstop. Some point out it could also be a 2b. However I don’t like their projected bullpen. Kutter Crawford? With Andrew Chafin, Michael Fulmer, Reyes Moronta, and Luke Weaver all still looking for work. Go get one or two.
