  1. Except for the Sale part. They already had him for 2019. Why not take some time and see if he’s healthy?
  2. Given that Price and Sale would have both been around until this year, I think locking up two of them was always unlikely…
  3. But it kills the “not spending” rhetoric. Although they’ve really been spending all along…
  4. I think you know enough to be safe. Just don’t invite John Henry into your home…
  5. As a frontline critic of the Sale extension, it did appear to me that Dombrowski pivoted towards Sale and Bogaerts only after talks with Betts already broke down. So it might have prevented any subsequent talks, but it’s also possible the Betts ship had already sailed…
  6. The one thing we don’t know is how Bogaerts felt about this. The bat plays. The glove likely works in LF. But that doesn’t mean he will be a good soldier and just move out there. (Certainly he might have.) It’s possible that he wouldn’t, which would explain why the Sox moved on to Yoshida as Plan B once they knew no deal was feasible…
  7. Rafaela and Houck for Pablo Lopez?
  8. I think a wooden stake would be the real danger…
  9. I doubt they drew up a contract worth a third of a billion dollars so hastily. I would bet Henry would allow you to book him ask day long and even pelt him with rotten tomatoes if it meant he saved over $300mill. This was very likely already in the works…
  10. I’m not so certain they viewed Bogaerts as a big part of the future, especially as a shortstop. Bloom has spent all of his top picks on middle infielders, including two shortstops. Sure you take best available and work positions out later. But MI is also a clear focus, presumably as he searches for the next Wander Franco…
  11. There’s always the possibility that the Sox were only going to try to extend only one of them…
  12. Why do we think Devers will hit like Pujols and Cabrera from ages 33-37 when this two were light years ahead of him from ages 20-25? And this isn’t slight on Devers. Pujols and Cabrera are hitters #1 and #2 in the 21st century, in whatever order you like…
  13. I’m no Frank Gorshin, er… um .. I mean Frank Caliendo…
  14. Sticking to this?
  15. The thing is, for that money we could have gotten 101 Dalbecs. But we don’t need that since we’re no longer think of the owner as Cruella de Ville. (This was my best impression of 5Gold. How’d I do?)
  16. Yeah I’d hate to see that .652 OPS slip away…
  17. If Yoshida can replace Bogaerts’ bat, this team could actually be better than last year’s…
  18. Why would you give any player a no trade clause if he didn’t want one?
  19. A $31mill AAV is a partial no trade clause as well…
  20. Opt outs can be a good thing if timed right. Imagine if Price had managed to not get hurt and chose to exercise his year 3 opt out…
  21. MLBTR is reporting $331/11. Either way, it’s a lot…
  22. I had moments of optimism that something would get done.
  23. We’ll see if they move him to third in 2024 after Machado opts out…
  24. Well, they’re reportedly still talking. https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/baseball/mlb/player/20711/rafael-devers
