  1. I’d also be more inclined to make Dalbec an outfielder. He has the tools to be successful - he’s surprisingly fast and has an absolute cannon for an arm. I’m inclined to say he’s more accurate with it than Verdugo, but we really haven’t seen that yet (although one might think his background as a Division I pitcher should allow for some accuracy). Duran should be dealt for a stopgap shortstop. Then sign Profar for 2b (and DFA Ort, finally)…
  2. Neither got hurt all week, as far as we know…
  3. And like I said about Bello - every starting pitcher is an injury risk. (OK maybe not Rick Porcello. But the rest are.)
  4. 335 PAs ago, he was the next best thing - just being held back for no reason. Now half a season’s worth of plate appearances later he should just get cut…
  5. That was a terrible thing to do to Danny Trejo!!
  6. Seabold might be traded, but the acquiring team needs a 40 man roster spot available. Not as likely in these 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 type deals…
  7. Duran could still contribute as a pinch runner, bench bat and possibly even occasional DH vs RHP. Justin Turner isn’t exactly David Ortiz. But his role should be 4th outfielder, 5th outfielder or trade bait…
  8. The offensive part of his game is a work in progress. Certainly plenty of hitters have taken longer and been older before finally reaching some success. The defensive part of his game looked hopeless. I don’t even mind the hallmark inside-the-park grand slam in which he looked truly awful. The Sox lost that game by over 10 runs. But the week before he misplaced a pop up in Oakland that allowed the eventual winning run to score. THAT was actually even worse…
  9. He certainly has some risk. TJ surgeries typically last for about 600 IP before a second surgery is required. Whitlock has only 150 IP since his surgery, so his risk might not be too high…
  10. Lugo with his move to 3b does help his future if he stays with Boston…
  11. Two from Andrus, Profar and Duvall. Plus sign a reliever just for fun.
  12. I like Andrus and Taylor as options. Profar also makes a ton of sense. And maybe even Adam Duvall, who has shown defensive skills and certainly has power…
  13. Defensively? Yes. Vs LHP? Yes. But Duran might have some offensive usefulness, especially with the rule changes…
  14. Ort and Hamilton made less sense than Ward, even with the current shortage of middle infielders…
  15. Still don’t get Ort’s survival. I’d have DFAd him over Darwinzon, Bazardo, Seabold, Hosmer, and Downs…
  16. He’ll be drafting players whose great-great grandparents haven’t even been born yet…
  17. Taylor is a terrific reliever when healthy…
  18. All starting pitchers are injury risks…
  19. In real life, tortoises live to be about 140 years old, which is very a win of sorts…
  20. So Bloom can be frustrating with his inactivity in replacing injured players during the off-season. When Sale went down last February, I get using Houck as starting options were limited and replacing Sale isn’t easy. But I didn’t get not backfilling Houck in the bullpen. Now with Story down - and the Sox already down one middle infielder - still no movement? Elvis Andrus is an easy temporary fix for losing Bogaerts. For Story, why not Jurickson Profar? He’s easily the best position player (and maybe the best player period) on the market. While he primarily played LF last year, he did play over 1,000 innings at 2b as recently as 2021. While he’s no Frank White out there, he does at least bring serious OBP to the table. Maybe the Sox can’t or won’t sign both. But at least get one of Andrus and Profar. Or get both and we can rebuild that 2016 Rangers’ infield…
  21. At the very least, he should be a step up over Cordero/Dalbec defensively. And even offensive improvement isn’t a big ask…
  22. The 8 year deal Manny Ramirez signed was easily among the best long term contracts in MLB free agent history, along with the original deal for A-Rod (it was; look it up) and Washinton’s deal with Max Scherzer…
  23. That does sum it up. And we got his 27-30 years for less than SD will be paying him for ages 38-41. Dombrowski was often far too generous with his contracts (and apparently still is), but his contract with Bogaerts was brilliant on so many levels…
  24. Bogaerts was one year away from free agency. Very likely if you don’t give him an opt out clause, he’s gone after 2019. Why else would he have signed that deal?
  25. Are you six?
