  1. I’ve never heard of a team trading to re-acquire a player selected in the Rule 5 draft.
  2. They might be. They also might not really care. I’m not sure if anyone in the front office has ever seen him pitch. And no one really knows where 3 years of not pitching would place him on their pitching prospect hierarchy. Ward looks to be the bigger loss. Jury is still out on Politi…
  3. They can also trade him (and his Rule 5 status) to another team. But I’m not sure how appealing Song is right now with all his inactivity and his injury What other options are you thinking about? Teams don’t really have a lot of them with Rule 5 picks…
  4. Either the Sox counteroffer or the Phillies just try to keep him. There’s not a lot of “next steps”…
  5. Napoleon McCallum served 5 years, I think…
  6. Staubach served 4 years as well…
  7. If Pivetta is the Sox #3, it probably means Sale, Paxton, or both are out…
  8. Pivetta’s goal today was probably something like 70-90 pitches. Somewhere in that range. You get the idea. What happens with those pitches might not matter at all…
  9. No. I wanted the same for Brasier. But I never predicted it…
  10. I will say that I truly believe the chance of Kaleb Ort lasting all season on the Red Sox 40 man roster strikes me as so close to 0 percent that we can call it 0 percent…
  11. Oh no. Long before…
  12. And the Mets aren’t trading anyone for a few months. The Mets will sign Britton (who also helps with their dearth of LHP) and let Robertson close. Robertson will be the closer. Draft accordingly in your fantasy leagues…
  13. And I think he started blocking my texts
  14. I’ve been saying that for about 5 or 6 DFAs now, but with more certainty…
  15. I won’t say the Mets are disinterested in Jansen, but this notion that the Sox could run up the price and bleed the Mets dry is a little silly. Jansen isn’t the only other closer in the world. As the Mets have already noticed, the closer market isn’t completely dry. Not to mention they do have Dave Robertson, who has more experience and a better track record than Daniel Hudson, who is also taking over the closer role for an injured pitcher for another of MLB’s highest payrolls. The notion that the Mets “need a big name” is silly, too. They just need someone to get late-game outs…
  16. What they need are WiFi-enabled electric razors…
  17. And the Mets are at the Britton showcase. Not exactly a tough prediction. If he looks half decent, I think we know who wins that bidding war…
  18. CD? Is he being compensated in 1996?
  19. What else does he have? The ability to help opposing hitters up their stats?
  20. Or just look in the Sox own minors. The Sox have high velocity fastballs all over the farm system, from Altavilla to Zefferjahn. Norwith Gudino, Jacob Webb, Theo Denlinger, Ryan Fernandez. All throw just as hard as Ort. All are younger, too. Including Altavilla…
  21. Hey at least they didn’t cut the dental plan for the accounting office again…
  22. And also do they get to keep the trumpet player?
  23. I’m sure the Mets hang up just at the mention of Parada and long before Joel Davis and Jarren Duran get mentioned…
  24. The Mets went on a spending spree and roster makeover that cost them 0 top prospects. If they want to replace Diaz, they’ll either pay someone (Ken Giles?) or take on an expensive salary dump that doesn’t require unloading their Top 100 guys. And those deals will be out there…
  25. Kaleb Ort averaged over 96mph, which does give reason to garner interest. But then again - Jacob Wallace and Frank German also threw just as hard and both were traded away. Wallace in particular made no sense because he wasn’t even on the 40 man roster and was dealt for someone who needed to be (and had a less impressive resume). Of course while velocity is exciting and the most difficult aspect of pitching to teach, it also guarantees nothing. There’s a reason Jamie Moyer had a better career than Steve Dalkowski. And frankly, players like Ort who have hittable velocity are not exactly rare commodities to be hoarded and guarded. One of the hardest throwing MLB pitchers in the past decade was Tayron Guerrero. How many people ever heard of him?
