  1. A poodle with rabies and a spear gun!!
  2. I think he blocked my texts…
  3. Demote Valdez. Promote Hamilton…
  4. Actually the Betts trade has worked out pretty well considering the Sox were never going to be able to sign him and they acquired two starters…
  5. The idea that the Sox let a few 30 something (and in a couple cases, very injury-prone) free agents go and they got hot elsewhere is hardly Bloom’s biggest mistake. This whole Hamilton situation is just ridiculous. Hamilton gets protected over Ward, probably the Sox most MLB-ready pitching prospect before the season. Not only do we see far too many games of Hernandez flummoxing around the infield, but Hamilton - whom it was so important to keep - tears up AAA and is left there in the minors. Meanwhile, the Sox keep trotting out Enmanuel Valdez and his specially designed glove with 5 thumbs and keep leaving Kike at SS. And then because Ward is in Washington, trot out a 32yo career minor league/multiple Asian league veteran with an 88mph fastball to join the rotation. Letting go of aging players who go on a hot streak can be just bad luck. But the promotions and non-promotions on this team are the real questionable moves…
  6. Then he should have protected Ward instead!!!!
  7. Then I’ll only deduct one point…
  8. I don’t even think he’s the answer. But he’s probably an improvement and easily available. Demote Valdez. Bump Kike to 2nd. And let Hamilton try SS.
  9. I think we all recall the details…
  10. I’ve seen 3 different spellings of Dermody today. None of them are correct…
  11. Or called up Hamilton. The guy was protected over Thad Ward and has crushed AAA pitching this year. He’s a gamble and I could understand if they had to DFA someone to try him. But that’s not the case…
  12. Traded for Wil Cordero, the Enmanuel Valdez of the 1990’s, but with off field issues…
  13. Kevin Newman is a good defensive SS sitting on the bench in Cincy making $2.6mill. He’s not much of as hitter, but him at SS and Hernandez shifting over to 2b would be an upgrade. BTV accepted Dalbec for Newman, which actually does make some sense for Cincinnati, as they’re near the bottom of the league in fWAR from a 1b. Certainly Dalbec won’t vault them to the middle of the pack, but he can help them by hitting LHP and by not making any money…
  14. If I do,, neither of them have much money and both of them are somewhat indigestible…
  15. Offerman did excel at OBP in an era where no one looked at OBP. Defensively he was a huge question mark unless playing 1b. The biggest issue I remember about Offerman at the time was that shortly after, Roberto Alomar signed for only a little more…
  16. Well, he is in the process of proving them all wrong. But 5 weeks ago, he was in the process of proving them all correct…
  17. It’s also possible they weren’t wild about something about Wacha. His HR/9 was 1.3 last year, which, while the best it’s been since 2018, isn’t a dazzling rate. It’s down to 0.8 this year, which of a no part of why his FIP and fWAR are improving. Maybe they weren’t wild about that? Eovaldi and Pivetta had higher HR/9. But then Eovaldi wasn’t retained and Pivetta was still under control but is pushing himself into non-tender territory this year…
  18. Or the Tampa model. You don’t see them overspending for starters very often. But I think he’d like a minor league kicking in some replacements. Other than Drohan, he hasn’t added much MiLB pitching, however…
  19. Rich Hill was bad? FIP and fWAR say he outpitched Wacha!!
  20. Well, that’s kind of a circular logic. Most bargain basement players are signed to one year deals…
  21. The D could have a trickle-down effect if they’d just do something about SS. Internal options (Reyes? Hamilton?) won’t give them a Gold Glove candidate, but would be an improvement. Moving Kike to 2b would be a step up over Valdez. When (if?) Story returns, he could take over 2b and push Kike to CF. That won’t happen, especially with Duvall looming. But even Story at SS is better than Kike…
  22. Sure that strategy looks bad when you solely focus on the disasters. Did Wacha, Hill and Paxton make the Bargain Bin strategy look bad? And do you really think Kluber’s contract is on par with Sale’s regarding impact to the team? Sale’s deal was signed almost 5 years ago and Kluber’s still ends first…
  23. And that’s been good for San Diego. But Wacha pitching like this was hardly an easily anticipated outcome. I’d say most people were surprised by his success last year…
  24. And that’s probably why the Sox have limited spending on the rotation to short deals. The only other major pitching expenditure was Sale, and so far he’s been costing the Sox roughly $2mill per IP…
  25. He wouldn’t be able to do that in Boston with Hernandez and Valdez up the middle…
