  1. The eye test is subjective and biased and often incomplete. If I asked you for an assessment of Arraez as a hitter, you’d probably have to look up stats due to a complete dearth of eye test data this year…
  2. No one said it was meaningless. But it is the least informative offensive stat. Agree or disagree?
  3. I think so. The borderline teams that have no clear direction probably look to buying controllable players instead of rentals, just in case ….
  4. Offer up Ted Williams!
  5. I liked Lopez, too. But if you go by BTV’s model, Duran was only worth a surplus value of $5.9mill when that deal was made. His new (and possibly already outdated) surplus value of $30.8mill is significantly better. Whether or not Miami cares is another matter. But that they got a reigning batting champion for Lopez does place the bat for him much higher. But this is a case where each team has a surplus in one area and a clear need in another. If Miami insist on Arraez-level players, the Sox (and most teams) are out…
  6. Paxton and Turner likely have the biggest appeal. Kike might as well due to his versatility and CF defense. I could see Duvall. But it’s hard to say. There might not be too many sellers since most of MLB, Sox included, aren’t that far of the place for the third wild card…
  7. Will he even add pitchers in a way we’re expecting? If you look at the Tampa staff, the only pitchers they drafted were McClanahan and Bradley…
  8. The Sox match up with the Marlins on BTV. The Sox have depth IN CF with Duran (30.4) and Rafaela (25.3). These do match up with a few the Marlins’ SP, including Rogers (33.4), Luzardo (27.6), Garrett (22), and Cabrera (21.7). The Marlins desperately need a controllable CF. But no idea how they feel about Duran or Rafaela…
  9. The buyer/seller thing might be more blurred. Right now there are only 7 teams more than 5.5 GB from the third wild card. Maybe some of the closer ones will be sellers, but they certainly won’t all be. Not even sure how it will get determined. For example, the Mets and Reds have the same record and are therefore both the same distance from the third wild card. Of course the Reds are also still in the NL Central race while the Mets are in 4th, 9.5 GB. And yet somehow I suspect the buyer between these two teams isn’t going to be the Reds…
  10. They don’t need to DFA anyone. They could just demote someone with options…
  11. Each team scored 7 runs this 3 game series. Weak offenses all around…
  12. Two outta three in the Bronx! Always good. Despite a weak show by the offense…
  13. Ok let’s get this McKinney walk off out of the way…
  14. Actually… that was not me. Check my history…
  15. That’s a ridiculous statement …
  16. Yoshida tackles criticisms of his defense…
  17. He made the right move. But the problem is the “all he got.” Did Yorke and Drohan fall into his lap, too? It’s one thing to crap on his bad moves. But looking to dump on the hood ones is just sad. And the thing is, all of your gripes are the free agent “didn’t predict the future to my standards” stuff. Every GM does that. Or his “why can’t he get a good fielder and rant” that included AND THEN TRIED TO JUSTIFY a Hold Glove winning home run champ. “That was two years ago” is not a valid criticism there…
  18. But all he got was Mayer, who fell in his lap…
  19. I asked ChatGPT, and it said this could not be determined. I’m scouring the web for a Talksox from an alternate timeline where the Sox signed none of those players. I found one where they only signed Lackey, but you don’t want to go there. Their version of Notin has a very foul mouth and their Bellhorn is best described as “surly”…
  20. Also They Might Be Giants
  21. What do you think of this Sox rotation? With the 4 youngsters in it? I don’t think Houck and Crawford will stick, but I can see giving both a chance. Houck scored a few points for himself last night..
  22. Once Sale went down, it made trading the unextended Betts the right move. ERod going down just hammered that home…
  23. I am never going to even pretend I know what his agreement with Henry is. And my opinion on that subject is not relevant…
  24. Last year the cry was we needed Schwarber back. We dealt with Arroyo in the OF and Pham and the Dalbec/Franchy debacle. Schwarber would have fit right in!! Of course now in Schwarber’s two best defensive positions (relatively speaking), the Sox have Yoshida and Casas. And suddenly, we don’t need Schwarber any more. All of this “but look who we replaced them with” ******** ignores that not a single starting pitcher that has signed with the Sox in the last few years has received a multiyear offer (except reportedly Eovaldi). These are all stopgaps. And many have stepped aside to let Whitlock, Houck, Crawford and Bello step into the rotation and try to claim a spot. Just because a player doesn’t get replaced RIGHT AWAY doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen…
  25. Sale is more relevant to this team than Wacha…
