  1. Sure that strategy looks bad when you solely focus on the disasters. Did Wacha, Hill and Paxton make the Bargain Bin strategy look bad? And do you really think Kluber’s contract is on par with Sale’s regarding impact to the team? Sale’s deal was signed almost 5 years ago and Kluber’s still ends first…
  2. And that’s been good for San Diego. But Wacha pitching like this was hardly an easily anticipated outcome. I’d say most people were surprised by his success last year…
  3. And that’s probably why the Sox have limited spending on the rotation to short deals. The only other major pitching expenditure was Sale, and so far he’s been costing the Sox roughly $2mill per IP…
  4. He wouldn’t be able to do that in Boston with Hernandez and Valdez up the middle…
  5. Thought you were down on John Wayne…
  6. Even if he did, Cohen had an outer Cohen that can outbid him…
  7. The backend started in year two…
  8. Are Charlotte and San Antonio watching with their fingers crossed?
  9. Does Wacha meet that? His 2022 was a bit of an outlier for his past 6 seasons…
  10. It’s less team friendly than I like. If Wacha is ineffective, you get him for the full 4 years…
  11. The Sox had a similar clause in John Lackeys contract…
  12. Do knuckleballers still exist?
  13. Actually most guys when going to the pen can add 3-4 mph to a fastball since they don’t have to pace themselves. You see this happen every All Star game when pitcher normally a starter just goes one inning. Not to mention facing a hitter one time per game.
  14. Well they got more out of him than the Yankees have from Rodon…
  15. If you get a college pitcher in the first round, he can beat that timeline…
  16. Contending team? No white flags here…
  17. Finally. Jansen gets them 1-2-3. In his last 8 games before tonight: 8G 7IP 7ER 5H 9BB 9.00ERA .965OPSA Hopefully he’s now turned that corner…
  18. Cora has been so formulaic with his bullpen management. It’s like role is more important than performance…
  19. deGrom out for the year…
  20. Joe Kelly wasn’t homegrown. He was acquired via trade with Allen Craig for John Lackey
  21. I meant to say starting pitcher. I don’t like it, but Houck does qualify. In fact, with Houck, Bello and Crawford all in the rotation right now, this might be the first time in a while the Sox have had 3 starting pitchers that came up through the system…
  22. Bello is the first legitimate pitching prospect to come up through the system and pitch for the Red Sox in a while. Disappointed about how few pitchers the Sox draft. At some point - hopefully in the very near future - that does have to change…
  23. And Rotoworld credibility takes a huge hit…
  24. Nearly every pitcher is better in the bullpen than the rotation. But “better” doesn’t always elevate them to “good”…
