  1. Turner has made a clear car he is finishing 2023 in Boston. I could see Bloom dealing Paxton, but I’m not as sure about it as I was a couple weeks back. I do wonder what the Sox trade bait is. And I’m wondering if Verdugo has entered that picture. With 1.3 years left and Rafaela destroying AAA pitching (albeit without ever taking a walk) and Dunn on board the rest of the year and currently thumping, does Verdugo fit in the picture? Or is he part of some depth that could be expendable?
  2. What’s blatantly not true is that Cora had no other options. Reyes was acquired on May 12. He started at SS on May 14, 15 and 16. And then once more for the rest of the month. Guess who started the rest of the games at SS…
  3. As I’ve said numerous times, the money didn’t bother me nearly as much as the years. When a guy has the season Kike was having, a one year $10mill deal seems more palatable than a 2 year $10 mill ($5mill AAV) deal. What I will always wonder and never know is why out till a so long to promote Hamilton. That’s Bloom’s job, but Cora most definitely has input…
  4. In the last month, I think. He started about 69 of the first 80 games, give it take…
  5. Turner would be a rental for any acquiring team (of which there will be none). But he has two months left in Boston (plus any postseason)….
  6. Is Montgomery really that guy? He’s 30, and he was good in the AL East (3.94 ERA / 3.90 FIP). But to me that depends on the deal. He’s going to be an overpay on the trade market as the #1 name on every trade candidate list, and he might be reluctant to extend. I could see it happening, but I could also see it not working out per your plan. He’s not a bad choice, but I’m hoping the Sox aren’t relying on extensions that haven’t been negotiated yet…
  7. Montgomery next year? He’s a two month rental…
  8. No no no. His wife missed Puerto Rico. That’s all…
  9. Pablo Reyes was largely ignored as a shortstop. Chang didn’t get his first start until 5 errors into Kike’s run. When both got hurt, Bloom took too long to call up Hamilton. But even once he did, Kike still played SS on occasion. Cora did insist on occasionally injecting Kike at SS throughout the starting tenur of all 3 players, despite his poor play and the Sox poor (re:losing) record when Kike played SS. And it’s not like Kike was hitting. I get players needing the occasional off day, but Kike never seemed to get one. But everyone else did to give Kike a chance to play…
  10. Edgar Renteria as well…
  11. Kike didn’t look like a defensive slump. He just looked incapable of handling the position…
  12. Catchers only execute a pre-determined plan…
  13. Yes. Weird how baseball got “watered down” the second the Sox hired a successful GM he didn’t like…
  14. Waste? He was BA#31 last year. Not every top pick gets ranked..
  15. Hey $10mill for Kike isn’t a bad deal in a watered down league.
  16. .938 OPS with 6 HRs in 23 games in Worcester. I expect him to struggle in MLB, but he is making a strong case for himself right now…
  17. Song DFAd https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/07/phillies-designate-noah-song-for-assignment.html
  18. I imagine a 3 team trade with Verdugo going to Seattle or Cleveland. As for pitchers, an oft-mentioned SP by me has 2.3 years left…
  19. … all of whom were added after the decimation
  20. I’d like to deal Dugo for a SP controlled no next year. But I think with Rafaela and Abreu on the way up, he might not be a long term fix if he doesn’t extend… But the Sox are going to face a bench crunch if they deal for a LHH MI (per Bloom’s quotes) and when Story comes back. At that point, Chang, Duvall and Reyes will be competing for one spot
  21. You take the player you want when you know he’s available. If Bloom had a second round pick that year, he might have waited to see if Yorke fell that far. But apparently he was fairly confident Yorke wouldn’t make it to round 3…
  22. But haven’t we already sold off Kike?
  23. It’s BlackBURN. He’s not singing in the dead of night…
  24. So per Bloom, the Sox want a LHH middle infielder. I assume the plan is to platoon with Arroyo at 2b. This raises some questions. The Sox have 4 bench spots on the roster. Refsnyder owns one. Alfaro is subletting another from Reese McGuire. That leaves two bench roles for the LHH MI (we’ll count Arroyo as the starter), Chang, Duvall, and Reyes. Reyes Will get the DFA, and will most certainly be re-signed and optioned to Worcester if he clears waivers. That leaves Chang and Duvall battling for the final spot. Both have played key roles this year. Who goes and how?
  25. Coming from a guy who repeatedly blasted Bloom for not trading Jarren Duran…
