    So anything that works out he lucked into, but anything that doesn’t was unmistakable stupidity? No wonder no one wants this job. I don’t think Contreas gets traded, but mostly because teams don’t make many deadline trades for players like him, unless they’re cheap rentals. Most teams in it are set at 1b. The one team that might want him is Washington, but it’s hard to know if they even make moves ss a buyer or seller. They are in it, but with so few teams out it could be a seller’s market…

    Salas was a hard pass for me. Not impressed by catchers having back problems by age 19. San Diego has shown interest in the past, and Ramon Laureano’s season-ending injury opens the door again. They’ve likely reviewed his contract situation already - a big first step in any trade already bypassed. But they’ve depleted their farm severely through trades and promotions the last few seasons. And beyond Salas, does San Diego have much to offer? Kash Mayfield? He is a flippable A-baller. The only other possibility I can think of is Cleveland, who has a pretty solid farm, including a RHP named Khal Stephen, who might be the best Dothraki prospect ever.

    Hitting .239 with a .779 OPS since the start of May, with a sub-.300 OBP. Im not ready to call that outstanding..

    But at a year older, his trade value goes down. He likely stays due to a lack of interest in 1b/Dh types. But if some team needs RHH power, there’s no reason to hold back beyond PR. This doesn’t mean he gets given away. Set a price and see who meets it, if anyone. As much as folks don’t like Breslow, he has brought in Contreras, Gray and Chapman and all have worked out fine. If the Sox don’t mess move Contreras, why do you think Breslow couldn’t find the next Contreras?

    A bit older than Bichette, who was already a MLB veteran at age 24. Long has a, well, long swing that still works for contact as well as some RH power. His 2026 looks awful compared to his stellar 2025, but a lot of that is probably due to an elbow injury he got in February that kept him out of the WBC (for the China-Taipei team, I believe). He has played both corner INF and corner OF and probably settles in as a 1b-3b-DH type if the Sox don’t mess with him. I’m actually surprised he didn’t debut last year, but the Cubs really don’t need him and he’s a good fit for Boston…

    Yes. He only needs 19.2 IP, I think. Will he get that many if he stays in Boston? I think the option kicks in and his 2027 is guaranteed. For the Cubs. They desperately need a closer and the last time they acquired him, things went well…

    Bear in mind we did get Contreras for a respectable but unexciting package of Hunter Dobbins, Yhoiker Fajardo, and Blake Aita. I know some folks were enamored of Fajardo, but he was acquired in a trade for the extremely replaceable Cam Booser. Set your prices accordingly. At the trade deadline, Tyron Guerrero might be more valuable than Contreras, which is why I don’t expect a trade….

    I did say earlier on this thread it many teams will be looking for 1b/DH types, so he most likely stays put. But let’s not go comparing Contreras at 34 years old with one year left to Betts, Bogaerts, Devers, etc. Those players had potential futures in Boston. Contreras has one year left here and is likely to decline towards retirement afterwards…

    Youre kidding. Chapman could be gone anyway; why not trade him? And Contreras is 34 and having a career year. He’s not very likely to be the same hitter in August/September of 2026, let alone 2027.. If they get a good offer for Contreras, take it…

    That’s exactly why I said “at this point just let him play SS every day” and compared his timeline to Rafaela’s. I only said to demote him when asked “which of these three would you demote?” Youre clinging to that part like your screen stopped displaying the second sentence of each post, which makes me wonder why I’m typing this sentence…

    Some fans are unreasonable. I remember talking to some guy who watched 20yo Xander Bogaerts go 0 for 4 and told me there was nothing to see here. Apparently the expectation was Bogaerts should dominate every game like he was a division 1 college player playing Little League.

    Honestly, I really didn’t even want him in AAA either.. So far it’s 10 IP, but I’m glad he’s making me wrong…

    That is a valid argument. But I had to make a choice among the three, and of those three I demote Mayer. At this point, I prefer Mayer just play SS and learn to hit in time. Rafaela is in his third full season and he’s just learning now. Mayer might take a similar timeframe…

Why would someone who has no faith in Breslow making good trades suggest trading away good, controlled players? It seems you want this team to be bad.     You think Chapman isn’t going to be dealt for similar names from prospect ranks? To me thr most interesting Sox reliever is Tyron Guerrero. He’s been flat out amazing, granted for only 10 IP….
