  1. Youre working in the realm of theory, and not even supported theory, on the role of thr CBO/GM, and not only holding these theories against Breslow, but pretending the playing field is equal. When the Sox fired Dombrowski and hired Bloom, they did so to create a sustainable pipeline of minor league talent aka make the team cheaper. If Dombrowski was all about talking Henry into spending more money, why didn’t he 1) get enough money to keep Betts or 2) buy a closer to replace Kimbrel for 2019?
  2. Looking at it this way. The Sox could field a lineup today, if the put Rafaela at 2b and Duran in CF. It’s not ideal, but no one is out of position. If they sign Bregman (OPS+ of 121 in the last 3 seasons), then they have no place to play one OF, most likely Duran (OPS+ of 123 in the last 3 years). Once the Sox get an INF and move Duran, THAT is likely where the offensive hit takes places…
  3. Devers said he was not moving to 1b. He said something along the lines of “do they want me to play every position?” If Cora didnt ask him, it’s far more likely that he knew Devers would be difficult about it. Cora wanted Bregman at 2b and not 3b. Was that because he didn’t think Devers would be a good DH? Or reigning Gold Glover Bregman couldn’t handle 3b? Or because he knew Devers would be difficult to ask to move? All signs point to Devers...
  4. The GM has a budget. Dombrowski had a bigger one (comparatively)…
  5. Or accurately recounting a situation. Devers allegedly refused before Cora asked him, so Cora is just recanting a timeline..
  6. Whats the demand for Bichette? Tucker snd Bellinger are still on the market as well…
  7. Devers openly refused to play 1b in multiple interviews, unless you think his interpreter is a blatant liar…
  8. Cohen? Is he still a factor anymore?
  9. Definitely not. Not for one year of Skubal. I mean itwon’t be Romero, Hamilton and Connor Wong, either. Maybe 2 good prospects and some filler, like with Crochet. But since chances of extending him are minimal, I’d just wait a year…
  10. Castro isn’t even a lateral move. I’d rather just play Hamilton/Romy. I could see Vientos, but I’m not wild about him. And the Mets, unless they get a 1b, really need him...
  11. Hoerner has one year left at $12 mill. Shaw was a minimum wage rookie and former first round draft pick that exploded through their minor leagues. They could demote Shaw. If I ran the Cubs, I’d trade him, especially considering a couple incidents from this year plus the rise of James Triantos in the minors making him more expendable. If I’m Boston, I pass on Shaw unless I can flip him. But I’d be interested in Hoerner…
  12. That’s not being a Red Sox fan - that’s being a conspiracy theorist. The Sox didn’t sign Bregman - whose deal was potentially for $120mill - to dump Devers. Per B-R.com, Devers had roughly $240mill left on his deal spread out over 7 years. (Maybe more if there are deferrals.) So you’re saying the Sox signed Bregman for up to $120mill over 3 years plus took on $25mill in Jordan Hicks in order to turn Devers into a selfish teammate and justify dumping him? And save maybe $14mill per year for 7 years? Is that the argument?
  13. I never believe that. But I do believe it means “you want him? Impress me!”
  14. Why is that the goal? Bregman was a good player, but he hasn’t been among the truly elite players in years. Alonso is a one trick pony that a lot of people were calling a “perfect fit” for Boston. I’d take Bregman back, but he’s hardly indispensable. And while power bats are nice, good ball players are more important (which is why I preferred Bregman over Alonso). A year ago, Bregman wasn’t on the Sox radar at all (as far as we knew). And now his loss is devastating? A year ago the Sox were the same “they don’t spend” team that dropped a $40mill AAV contract on a player in February. So why do you think it won’t happen again?
  15. Then why poo poo a Gold Glove 5 bWAR second baseman on the basis of home runs?
  16. If all you’re worried about is home runs, Bregman only hit 18 last year. Sign Eugenio Suarez since he hit twice as many and in bigger ballparks…
  17. I had no idea the only 3 players in MLB that fit the Sox needs were Bregman, Alonso and Ketel Marte…
  18. Well, either Nico Hoerner or Matt Shaw are now available…
  19. Only a $5mill drop in AAV for Bregman.
  20. Yeah!! Stupid conspiracy theories!!
  21. See, all I needed was wRC. I had no idea what you had then ranked..
  22. #36 at what? How are you ranking them?
  23. It’s slow and occasionally frustrating, but wrapping up free agency sooner isnt going to get the season here faster. If everyone signed deals and rosters were in place by November 30, what would we talk about until April?
