  1. Wing enter and Ramirez were only claimed to fill some voids in the bullpen until a better pitcher could be acquired. I know the Sox disappointed you by not just going with the 6 man for a few days…
  2. Not if he stays in Chicago…
  3. I could see these being factors. Or “excuses” as Old Red calls them…
  4. Why trade Mayer at the deadline, when maybe he gets you Lucas Erceg, when you can wait until the off-season and he can headline a deal for Garret Crochet?
  5. Didn’t you also want Pedroia traded when he first came up?
  6. I’d prefer he take some steps to be ML Effective…
  7. The point is as Houck, Crawford, and, well, nearly every pitcher in MLB throws more innings, they get less and less effective, because they get tired and sore. It’s a big, big part of the reason so few teams ever repeat as WSC, something that will get even more difficult with the WC round becoming a series. Or we could go by your theory, which is that Houck’s last two starts are the reality and the previous 19 were the outliers…
  8. “I heard someone else complain so therefore it’s legitimate!!”
  9. That’s what you got out of that?
  10. That sounds remarkably ignorant. That’s like expecting Usain Bolt to win the marathon. “So what if he’s never run that far? It’s not like 200 meters is as far as he can go!” Their career highs are where they are for a reason. And minor league career highs are not equivalent. They’re not irrelevant, but they’re also not the same…
  11. And what is the difference?
  12. Or guys are rapidly approaching if not passing their career highs in IP. Cannot coach arms to not be fatigued…
  13. Apparently Breslow was supposed to call up Wikkelman Gonzalez to fill in for both Martin and Slaten and hope he pitches better on MLB than he has in the minors. Or he could have called up one of the injured Walter, Perales, Campbell or Mata. All were preferable to waiver claims. The only other option on the 40 man was Brad Keller, but he’s also a dumpster dive…
  14. I wasn’t criticizing DD. I simply said he occasionally dove into the dumpster for arms. I get he did it out of necessity. I only used him because under his regime, no one would think the Sox were small market…
  15. Well you have clearly said you don’t want them combing the waiver wire. Sometimes that’s the only other option. And sometimes it’s the best option…
  16. No, DD did what he had to in order to fill a void on his pitching staff quickly. He also dove into the San Diego dumpster to find Colten Brewer. Not sure why this exact same process is a bad comparison…
  17. So if injuries pile up, you prefer the Sox just play short-handed?
  18. Were the Sox small market when Dombrowski brought in guys like Blaine Boyer and Sean O’Sullivan?
  19. Big market has nothing to do with it. If you need pitching or whatever, it’s another method of acquiring. Trades are simply not always an option. So either comb the waiver wire or call up one of the maybe half a dozen option available from the 40 man. That Wingeter didn’t work out isn’t an indictment of the process. Ultimately the guy wound up pitching a third of an innning more than Dominic Smith…
  20. Luis Urias just didn’t provide the necessary impact…
  21. It’s fun when you catch and unmask them, only to find out it’s always been Mr. Hollowell, the groundskeeper. And he would have gotten away with it if not for those meddling kids…
  22. People condemn the entire dumpster diving process for every failed acquisition. But the Sox bullpen right now has Bernardino, Booser, Kelly, Criswell and a mildly resurgent Bailey Horn, all of whom were pulled off the scrap heap. Bernardino and Kelly are struggling right now, but both have absolutely contributed this season…
  23. I think the Scott/Snelling trade is getting far too little mention as the biggest overpay. It would be like if the Sox traded Roman Anthony for Lucas Erceg….
  24. Sims was a former top prospect for the Braves who washed out as a starter. As a reliever, he’s been pretty good. I saw him pitch Monday night against the Cubs…
  25. Hardly. We’ve seen worse, as has every team. And the Sox (and every team) will continue to make waiver claims. Most won’t work out, but some absolutely will. I don’t see anyone complaining about Criswell anymore. And right now, we could probably use John Schreiber, who was a definite dumpster dive as well. Just because you want to scrutinize every move Duran make it right. Wingenters will come and go regardless of who is in charge. And I’d rather have an active GM/CBO who takes these chances than one who doesn’t…
