  1. It’s all about the money and only the money. I’ve even joked about the costs and expenses of living in NY. But we are talking about over half a BILLION dollars here. Soto could realistically just give his car away instead of parking it, and then buy a new one. Every day. He’s not going to pick Boston because he figures to save on groceries…
  2. They’re not adding two starting pitchers, barring two scenarios: 1. A trade involving one of the current SPs, most likely Crawford 2. You’re counting Giolito as one of the two. Beyond that, there’s no reason to believe Houck, Bello, Crawford and Giolito won’t all be in the rotation come April, assuming all are healthy…
  3. I think he’s saying it’s like the Temple of Doom of rings. Sure it’s part of a legitimate franchise and all. But no one liked it except Short Round’s parents…
  4. Are you saying winning the World Series with Ryan Weber s as toy number three starter doesn’t belong in fantasyland?
  5. Savage Sports is a nobody in a circle where even the biggest names (like Bar Stool Sports) have all but non-existent access to inside information. Ignore them and their completely unsupported “data”…
  6. Yes, but how many of those young stars can you hold on to for more than 3 years? I want Soto, too, but the bidding has reached the point where I’m ok with someone else signing him. Even the Yankees. They’ve shown already he doesn’t guarantee a World Series, and I have full faith that the one person who can keep a team with Soto aand Judge in check is Aaron Boone…
  7. I think more like the North Eastros. Spend, but have a supplement pipeline…
  8. In what will be a proper yet seemingly bizarre use of the word “only”, an offer of $1 billion Canadian works out to “only” $710,000,000 USD
  9. At some point, having Soto will make no sense if the Sox can’t surround him with talent. Fourteen years and nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars is a lot for one player. Rebuild the staff, and hope Anthony is the next MLB superstar…
  10. Casas is still pre-arb and I prefer him over Alonso. Neither is good defensively but Casas won’t ruin the budget. Plus, and this may matter very little to anyone, but Pete Alonso strikes me as the angriest man in MLB. I’ve seen him fly off the handle for weird s*** - like at a pitcher because his tape measure shot was called foul. Or that’s what it looked like. Anyway, no to Angry Pete. Christian Walker is nice, but he’s already 34. Go shorr. Actually if the Sox do move Casas, I’d hope they backfill with a good all-around third baseman who wasn’t involved in a cheating scandal…
  11. I would too if I was running the Cardinals or (especially) the Mariners. But the Red Sox? Hopefully Breslow gets canned if he accepts. A top ten prospect, another top 100 prospect, two other prospects and most of Yoshida’s contract for a decent but pricey SP, one year of a closer, and a salary dump catcher that needs to rebound? I popped it into BTV. The Sox lose $53.5mill in surplus value. Basically in this deal, you’re giving away Marcelo Mayer for nothing…
  12. If the Red Sox won in 2020, in no way would that be legit. The only way to win when Ryan Webber is your #3 starter is if the fix is if the whole season is fixed…
  13. The important thing is that you try…
  14. An Abreu trade seems likely, given the rapid ascent of Roman Anthony. And if the Sox sign Soto, they could easily consider moving Duran or Rafaela, due to a suddenly overcrowded outfield. Not sure Rafaela gets you much given his lackluster bat and contract extension. So would they move Duran? Might be a “sell high” opportunity. Of course, selling high is always such a tough decision in any aspect of life…
  15. Good thing, because Jeffers sucks at those three. Ryan Jeffers is a DH who owns catching gear. If the Sox move Yoshida, he makes more sense as an acquisition…
  16. Infielder? Barring trades the Sox have Devers, Casas, Story, Hamilton, Grissom, Gonzalez, Campbell, Mayer, and possibly Meidroth. They need another infielder like Fenway Franks need more gelatinized red polymer goo…
  17. Pedro ended his career as a Phillie. But he didn’t get into Cooperstown because of his achievements in his return to the NL East. It’s like Greg Maddux. You think of him as a Brave, and maybe as a Cub. No one associates him with the Padres or Dodgers…
  18. A lot of it is because the union wants players to take the most money possible so as to drive up everyone’s salaries…
  19. Danny Jansen to Tampa. One less viable catcher candidate with actual defensive skills…
  20. I think he was referring to Yoshida as the guy you’re paying for who won’t appear…
  21. Counting 2020 bears more relevance than clinging to those World Series titles from the Triassic Period like some fans of a certain team still do…
  22. Jeffries? Get a catcher who can play catcher. Not one that makes Connor Wong look like Yadira Molina. Christian Vazquez makes more sense if you want a former Twin. Or just sign Danny Jansen, Carson Kelly or Elias Diaz…
  23. At one point, Mookie’s agent reportedly defined market value at $400mill. We also don’t how much leeway was built into that definition..
