  1. Your Google broken?
  2. Yes, there was a time when an 8 year $160 mill contract got you Manny Ramirez. Nowadays, it gets you Brandon Nimmo. I’d be surprised if the Sox signed any SP beyond maybe some MiLB depth deals. Maybe some relievers and acquire a SP via trade. Most likely Abreu, but i wouldn’t eliminate the possibility of Duran…
  3. Pitching like Hunter Brown…
  4. You have a higher threshold for expensive than me, and probably most MLB owners, many of whom shed players making $5mill or less as cost-cutting moves…
  5. They signed one last year…
  6. I align the same people differently. 1b/DH - ok with Casas/Devers 2b - Hamilton/ Campbell. Not a platoon. I just doubt Campbell is there opening day SS - Story/Mayer. With Mayer in WOO until Story gets hurt 3b - Romy/Grissom. Give both a shot. Admittedly I might be buying a bit too much into the article about Romy’s power and needed swing adjustments.
  7. They’d save money, but probably less than they’d make with ticket sales by trotting out Yoshida over Gray…
  8. If the Sox can deal Duran and come out of it like the Padres did in dealing Soto, I think most of us wouldn’t mind. And I know Duran is no Soto, but Duran also has 4 years of control and is pre-arb. Soto was dealt with only one year left and a salary of $25mill. And still got back Michael King and Drew Thorpe, whom the Padres then flipped for Dylan Cease. Its not easy and the Sox would have to know who to target, but if they can deal Duran for even a fraction of that, it might be worth it…
  9. I know they declined. And that was absurd!! I don’t think you fully followed the thread at that point. I was responding to Bellhorn saying the Sox FO couldn’t be that absurd…
  10. Ok but before we go overboard overcommitting to Duran, you said teams don’t get better by trading their best player. Well, who would you say was the best player on the 2023 Padres?
  11. They traded Mookie without getting any pitching, and somehow you call THIS absurd?!?
  12. Fine, but it doesn’t change that managers need to recognize when the game truly is on the line, and that it’s not always in the ninth inning…
  13. I’ve heard some little birds talking about the Cardinals cutting payroll. If so, Sonny Gray (2 yes $65mill left) is most definitely available, but likely not in any deal involving Yoshida. A lot of Sox fans do think Bloom is an idiot, and he absolutely has flaws, but he’s not going to ruin the Cardinals for the sake of helping Boston. His biggest issue was always pulling the trigger on deals for MLB players. He probably wouldn’t mind a few players he drafted in return for Gray…
  14. So we’re in agreement it’s the most likely course of action…
  15. Duran does have 4 years of control left. Without you runnng out and getting hired by some MLB team, what team would want him that has surplus pitching? Id think if Duran did get dealt, it would be for prospect talent with the intention of flipping it for pitching. Until Henry told Breslow to keep those cheap prospects, too…
  16. This is why I like BTV. It shows that this deal is incredibly lopsided in favor of Boston and therefore unlikely to even be considered by Houston…
  17. It is rare, but I think managers need to get away from their 1990’s Bullpen Management By Inning ********. i do disagree with your irrelevant counterpoint about expected hitters. Just because a pitcher doesn’t have a 1.00 WHIP (which Jansen does, by the way) doesn’t mean they have a 1.33 WHIP. There is some gray area in between…
  18. Much like Ellsbury. Of course, opposing teams are aware of this, too. I think Duran falls into the extremely boring “in the right trade” category. And I’d be surprised if he was dealt directly for pitching…
  19. Will it change the fact that the game was on the line in the 7th with the bases loaded and Soto and Judge up? Bear in mind if you’re thinking of answering “yes”, that situation I just described turned out to be exactly when the game was decided…
  20. Most of those teams dealt prospects, not their 8WAR outfielder…
  21. I was all on top of Chapman last year as a solution. But he wasn’t in the budget. I think I’d prefer to try Romy or Grissom over Mayer (who is needed to over Story injuries) or Campbell (who could move to 2b if Grissom takes third)…
  22. I get the idea of Duran being a more valuable trade chip. But any team that wants him won’t be dealing their pitching…
  23. It’s certainly possible it’s been tried and/or discussed by Cora and Devers. And maybe it was a flop. My only thoughts are “but it’s my favorite position” is no reason to leave a player in place. But it does happen, and is why Mike Trout still plays CF in between injuries. But legitimate speculation aside, is it a good idea to move the worst defensive 3b in MLB to another position?
  24. Welcome to the 2025 Red Sox, Mr. Grichuk…
  25. I’d rather have O’Neill for one year at $20-22 mill than 5 years with an $18mill AAV…
