  1. Wow, Buehler already made the list of injury busts. I kind of get the Giolito inclusion, but bear in mind had he produced last year, he’d be gone now…
  2. Tend to agree. While much is made of the loss of his 1.180 OPS vs LHP, no one mentions the loss of his .693 OPS vs RHP. I’d like a RHH bat somewhere, but a lefty-heavy lineup that’s stronger against the much larger population of RHP in MLB isn’t some sort of death nail. The big problem with the SP was that the Sox never had a complete rotation once Giolito and Whitlock went down before April was out. Criswell was fifth on the team with 18 starts. Once Whitlock went down, there was enough season left for 26-28 starts out of a 5th starter. The Sox got a little over half of that…
  3. Not entirely sure that’s a convincing argument…
  4. The clearest path is simply move Abreu for a RHH 3b option and then move Roman Anthony to RF. No team needs an OF upgrade more than the Astros. According to Roster Resource, their starting outfielders are Jake Meyers, Chas McCormack, and Ben Gamel, which isn’t much to show for that $200mill payroll. I expected Pitt, Tampa and KC - you know, teams that don’t spend- to have the worst OF. But nope. Houston. Isaac Paredes isn’t an offensive force, but he’s a good defensive 3b with dead pull tendencies made for Fenway…
  5. It’s all Press Conference Speak. Nothing new. The only CBO who was blatant and upfront was Bloom. And he drew a lot of ire from people who held him to his words. Or worse, their individual interpretation of his words…
  6. Why not just DFA Abreu if you’re giving him away in that deal?
  7. He’s a year younger than Sale was when the Sox traded him away…
  8. Boston should bring back Pivetta and deal Crawford for a RHH third baseman. Bohm? Paredes? Either one creates an opening for Bregman, thus officially ending the off-season…
  9. Reportedly Suzuki was not wild about being primarily a DH. But with Gold Glover Happ in LF, future multi-Gold Glove winner Pete Crow-Armstrong in CF, and superstar Kyle Tucker in RF, where else could he play? I think he played some 2b/3b in Japan, but the Cubs have filled those roles with incumbent Nico Hoerner and former first rounder Matt Shaw. DH is the best fit. So I’m not so sure this deal is about cutting salary. Although it might a factor if the Cubs hope to extend Tucker…
  10. Most player/prospect yield minimal results. Considering the Sox had chances to unload all of Sake’s deal and get nothing, it’s a good sign they at least tried to get something at the cost of several million. And hopefully they don’t just give up on Grissom after a questionable spring…
  11. He’s still a 2 fWAR player despite the declining offense. That makes him worth $16mill per year..
  12. As it has been pointed out multiple times (all of them by me), he does have all his options…
  13. On this, 5Gold. When you were a kid watching “Casper the Friendly Ghost,” did you ever wonder how Casper the Friendly Child died?
  14. Yes. But there has been plenty of speculation about Devers’ shoulders. Are they healed? Or will Casas re-injure himself by performing another mundane baseball activity? Last year it was swinging. This year maybe he injures himself while spitting sunflower seeds. If one goes down, the other takes over 1b. But who DHs?
  15. They’re from the mindset of “we need to run Yoshida out of town and pretend the Sox will spend the savings!!” So I can see where madman fits…
  16. No more heavily than Boston is…
  17. If they can do better than 5-34 against Detroit, Kansas City, and Minnesota, it would help Boston. But it just seems more likely they take a few of those 5 remaining steps backwards…
  18. Not sure why Sox fans want Yoshida gone. If the Sox are supposed to be worried about the recent injuries to Devers and Casas, why should they trade away the bat behind them in line? Do people want a clear path to a 1b/DH role for Romy Gonzalez?
  19. I hate the idea of giving up Fitts for Arenado. And I don’t even think Fitts is some elite prospect, but I do think Slaten, Whitlock, Fitts and Guerrero has the potential to be an elite middle relief core. But I know that including Fitts might be the difference in changing Arenado from a $50mill waste of money into a $45mill waste of money…
  20. Maybe Breslow will surprise us all and deal Crawford for Alex Bohm, allowing Dombrowski to swoop in and overpaying for Bregman. Then Boston will bring back Nick Pivetta as their new closer. Boom. Postseason…
  21. And he was a vampire. Legend has it Boo Berry was the ghost of a child he devoured…
  22. Reportedly he is keeping Arenado open while talking to Bregman. I think the Sox are the only team linked to Arenado, but St. Louis might not move him until Bregman signs regardless. I just hope if the Sox do finally settle for Arenado, they don’t give up Fitts (which is the only name I’ve heard so far).
  23. Because Boras was the only one given a chance to find out. That most elite ball players choose him to be their voice in negotiations is what does make him best…
  24. Thinking Boras isn’t the best agent because you focus on his failed attempt to get his clients what they want is a one-sided argument. Dont his competitors have failures, too? And do their failures still wind up doing as well as Boras’?
