    Changing leagues should give him an advantage, since fewer hitters are used to him. As he is a late inning reliever, the whole "DH" thing is moot. I'd bet he never faced a pitcher in his entire NL career...

    The entire point was that Kimbrel should have been used in the eighth once Reed put the game in jeopardy. If Kimbrel could have gotten out of the eighth - and no Sox reliever was more likely to - than anyone else could have pitched the ninth. Workman has barely pitched in the past 3 years and is much more of a question than answer at this point...

    Brentz has struck out in 25% of his at bats in AAA. How much of an upgrade is he over a 0.0 fWAR player?

    I have no problem replacing Young. I just do think Brentz is any better, and his good season in AAA is more an argument against him than for him, considering how long he took to adjust to AAA pitching. If th e Sox promote him now, will they reap the benefits in 2022? I'd actually rather see Rusney Castillo get the shot, but that isn't happening this year. Although it might next season. For this year, the Sox probably need to find a cheaper Ryan Raburn type lefty masher on the waiver wire. Raburn himself, being in Washington, won't be available. But you get the idea...

    It's amazing how fast the opinion of Young has fallen. Last year he was terrific, and fans were talking about how necessary it was to extend him. This year fans want him replaced by a career minor leaguer who should have been DFA'd two years ago. ..

    Actually Gregorious has a .668 OPS against LHP this year, as opposed to a .910 OPS vs RHP. Abad would have made sense. Of course, bringing in Kimbrel to face Judge would have made even more sense...

    So after Reed wild pitched Sanchez to second, why didn't Farrell go to Kimbrel? This is a major pet peeve of mine. The game is on the line, the 3-4-5 hitters are up, and you save your best reliever and hope for the best. Saving Kimbrel for the ninth inning to hopefully face the 6-7-8 hitters in that case is flat out stupid. Let someone else face the bottom of the order and get the save...

    No it wouldn't. The Sox championship teams were fun in the past because we never knew they coild do it. No one exp. . Tlted 2004 or 2007 and certainly not 203b. That's what made then fun . The last thing I want to see is Sox team that is a disappointment if it doesn't win....

    Chavis is probably trade bait at some point. He's good enough to net a useful piece but not good enough to replace the guy holding his position. ...

    Is Peacock really all that my good this year? He spent a big chunk of the season in the bullpen lowering his peripherals. In terms rotation due to injuries, he's been good. But I wouldn't get worked up about a starter with 4 quality starts and one game in excess of 6IP in mid -August. Porcello's career year last year crushes that. Especially considering Peacock still doesn't have 90 IP for the season....

    By batting Holt second, Farrell kept all the other hitters in their accustomed spots. I wouldn't over think this one....

    At this point, Butler may have given up The Dream, or part of it, and keeps coming back because he figures to have a future coaching or managing in the Sox organization, or wherever his contacts wind up working....

    Actually Butler keeps choosing to return. The Sox traded him to Washington in 2015 and signed him as a minor league free agent after the season. Then they granted him free agency and re-signed him again after 2016...

    I don't like the trade, but if I'm being consistent, I never thought Shaw was anything special either....

    The Shaw trade hasn't worked out, but it's amazing how many people have decided it's evidence of Dombrowski's incompetence. He could make nine straight trades that worked out, and people will still be saying "But that Shaw trade...". Yes we lost Shaw. Forget about him. Every tesm makes deals like this. It's timr to move on. This is the Age of Devers now....

    The Sox also faced uncertainty in 2005. Pedro, Lowe, Varitek, Nixon, Cabrera, and numerous other were free agents after that season. The farm system had very little above A-ball. And the World Series drought lasted 3 whopping years...

    The 3 year window was always a myth. But you can't debunk it by naming free agents the Sox haven't signed or, in many cases, shouldn't sign. Go back 3 years on plenty of teams and see how many starters were even in the organization 3 years ago. And how many were major leaguers. Having a great farm creates these myths about the future, but the truth is the OVERWHELMING majority of prosepcts do not live up to the hype. However, many do live up to the job of making minimum wage or being adequate trade bait....

    OMG his BABIP screamed "unsustainable" so loud it could be heard at both poles simultaneously. Yet whenever I mentioned this, someone would dispute this and say something "he re-tooled his swing" or something. I don't care if he learned how to channel the ghost of Ty Cobb. No way was he going to get hits on 45% of the balls he puts in play. The record is .423 held by some guy named Babe something or other. (Leon did drop a little and finish the year with a .392.) (Chris Taylor of the Dodgers with his .419 BABIP this year ranks number 4 all time, behind Ruth, George Sisler and Hornsby. Not sustainable. Oddly enough, while listening to a Dodger broadcast, the radio announcer said he "re-tooled his swing." Exact words. I am starting to think "re-tooled hi swing" is sportspeak for "lucky as hell" for people in denial.)

    Why would he be available? And why would he be reasonable? Healy has about 4 years of control left and makes MLB minimum wage. Oakland is in no rush to move him. Now Yonder Alonso, who is a free agent in 3 months, is a different story...

    Do people really want Homer, who is only good every other year? Eric H osmer (ages 25-27) - 116 OPS+, 5.4 fWAR (and counting) Player X (ages 25-27) - 116 OPS+, 7.5fWAR I won't name him outright, but the identity of Player X rhymes with Sablo Pandoval. Obviously this doesn't mean both will have equal outcomes, but Hosmer might not be the player people thi nmi he is. Travis might be a flat out better option If the Sox do opt for a free agent, hopefully they investigate the slightly older, slightly better and likely cheaper (or at least shorter term) option in Carlos Santana. ...
