If they don't take the East, what the Yankees need in that case is for the Sox to clinch a little early, enabling Severino to pitch the WC game. Worst case scenario for them is Severino making all 3 regular season starts and still not winning the AL East...

True, although at this point in the season with an expanded bullpen and some pitchers around 200IP, I do hope Farrell is quick to pull them. A lot of people griped when he left Sale in the other day...

1. JD Martinez. I liked him back when he was in Houston and was shocked they released him. 2. No. Votto is the Reds most marketable player (they do have to sell tickets) and Stanton isn't likely to go anywhere cheap, regardless of that frightening contract...

Always the trade route, which is something Dombrowski has shown he certainly likes to do. E-Rod to the Giants for Brandon Belt, who is in the top eight among 1B over the last 3 years in OBP, wOBA, wRC and fWAR. He's 14th in SLG, but SF's home park is not built for lefties. Then spend your cash on Alex Cobb...

No one. Unless you trade E-Rod (easily the most tradable name on that list) for a 1B. I doubt Dombrowski does that. But you never know. He's typically more patient with younger pitchers but 1) the Sox are loaded with LHSP and 2) E-Rod really isn't his type of pitcher. He might not like him or might be frustrated with his frequent injuries and slow development...

He'd probably be terrific at the beginning of the deal. But at 32, if he wants 5 years, he isn't likely to age well and will be an albatross by 35...

Scratch this. The OP included both Leon and Vazquez, screwing up my count. Will the Sox have a 7 man bullpen or eight? If only 7, then three more bench players are needed, since one of Leon or Vazquez has to be considered a starter... -

I think Holt's versatility is overrated. He isn't much of an infielder and while he is better in the OF, keeping Davis negates that need. I'd keep Davis and Young and let Nunez handle backup infield. Young has struggled against LHP this year, but does have a solid career hitting them and is an experienced post-season player.... -

Agreed, I think. If Pomeranz becomes a key figure in some Sox teams, doesn't that alone make the trade worthwhile? Even if Espinoza wins 3 Cy Young's in SD, I can't look back at this deal and decide Pomeranz wasn't worth it and want to give back any pennants or titles. The fact is, highly regarded or not, Espinoza was always a longshot to live up to his potential, like all A-ball prospects are. The biggest question mark in this deal to me was Pomeranz, and so far his addition has been extremely positive...
