    Bello has definitely seen far to many in his year in the majors. His stuff is going to induce a lot of ground balls; he needs plays to be made behind him.

    You forgot Junichi Tazawa, who was pretty good against everyone except the Blue Jays. I used to think the Sox would have been better off leaving him south of the border when they went to Toronto. That team owned him.

    Sean McDonough just summed Oakland up perfectly: they are playing the kind of baseball of a 25 win team. To be fair, the A’s did recently have a 7 game win streak and had won their last 2 series, so they’ve been playing better than they are early this year. In fact, they’ve almost caught Kansas City in the race to avoid the worst record in MLB.

    He is utterly incapable of giving credit for anything any player on another team does. In his mind, every player on a bad team stinks. I have no idea what he would have thought about Steve Carlton on the 72 Phillies. Note - I am talking about the poster you are replying to.

    Sox offered Nate a Qualifying Offer, which was worth ~$19.5M. Nate turned it down. Sox also offered Nate a multi year deal for more than the AAV than he ultimately got from the Rangers; Nate turned that down as well. I wish he were still here too, but Nate turned them down twice, so they moved on.

    Agree on Duvall. Kike isn’t going anywhere this year. For one thing, he’s not going to get you anything. But beyond that, for all his issues on the field, from everything I’ve heard, he’s well liked in the clubhouse by the players. He played a big part in getting three of the better performers to sign here in Turner, Martin and Jansen. His playing time is already being reduced, and I don’t see that changing going forward barring a rash of more injuries. It’s not like he’s blocking anyone at this point. He won’t be resigned, but he will be here for 80 or do more games.

    Palmer didn’t like him, but Weaver knew exactly what buttons to push to get him to perform, to the tune of 8 20 win seasons in an era when wins for a starting pitcher actually meant something.

    I remember reading a story about Earl Weaver when he first took over the Orioles. He had Brooks Robinson and Mark Belanger on the left side of the infield . At first, he had the O”s ground crew keep the grass high, thinking that would help his gold glovers make more plays. What he found was they were making a lot of routine plays while the other teams less talented infielders were making great plays and taking hits away from Baltimore hitters. So he told the ground crew to shave the infield to a nub. After that , his guys were now making the great plays and O’s hitters were getting a lot more hits. That’s a good manager who put his talent in position to win.

    Bochy’s career mark is right at .500 (.499 to be exact). Managers don’t make much of a difference. They can set a short term tone but that’s about it. They win shone thry have talent, they lose when they don’t. A bad manager hurts a team far more than a good one will help one.

    Murphy did fine today. 1 run in 3 2/3 is more than acceptable. A bit shaky at times, but he kept the Sox in the game.

    Well it can trigger a platoon, but the trend has to have a larger sample size than what Duran has so far.

    He should at least be playing against some lefties. Maybe you sit him against an all-star type lefty, at least for now, but play him against less talented southpaws to see what he can do.
