  1. Yeah, the first part was. I look for what the pitcher is doing, what he’s throwing and where he putting it. Really, Lynn made one bad pitch today, to Casas. Even the walk to Devers had the look of either Rafael will get himself out or I’ll walk him. He should have been out of the inning on Arroyo. He was just really good today, commanded all of his pitches. almost nothing wasn’t on a edge or in a lot of cases, looked like a strike until the last partial second before dipping out of the zone ever so slightly. Ran out of gas.
  2. One good thing; Devers doesn’t seem to be flailing at everything. He’s been a bit more patient today.
  3. He’s mixing stuff up and putting the ball where he wants to with all 4 pitches. Let’s not pretend the Carmines are missing meatballs.
  4. Major league hitter hits a homer. Time to keel over. Offense is doing nothing with the “washed up hack” Lynn, who, like Giolito last night, is pitching a really good game.
  5. Which is fine, but what’s the deal today.
  6. Of course not. Context escapes them. I don’t get to see many games, but I can this weekend via the ChiSox broadcast. One thing I’m seeing is he’s looks like he’s trying to pull everything. More worried about why Paxton is out so soon.
  7. Winckowski warming up. Not a good sign with Paxton only at 63 pitches.
  8. Huh? Paxton. 3IP, 2H, 1R, 0BB, 3K Lynn. 3IP, 2H, 1R, 0BB, 2K Looks pretty even to me
  9. Here’s an odd K stat for you: Last night was the 7th time this year White Sox pitchers have struck out at least 14 hitters in a game. They are 0-7 in those games. (Courtesy of the White Sox TV crew)
  10. Great play by Berger; took away a likely triple from Duran.
  11. Just to throw a little perspective though, “washed up hack” Lynn struck out 16 Mariners over 7 innings last Sunday.
  12. The Sox aren’t a bad defensive team because they don’t make great plays. They are a bad defensive team because they don’t make enough routine plays. They don’t turn a DP for some reason. Throw to the wrong base and give up an extra base. Stuff like that. Stuff that doesn’t even show up in the box score as an error Those championship teams didn’t make those mistakes. They made the routine plays.
  13. Ryan was utterly dominant. Just have to tip you cap to him and move on. Today wasn’t that painful; Twins had the advantage. Yesterday was the disappointment.
  14. A bit shaky, but Walters did a nice job today and let the bullpen reset. 6 2/3 relief innings.
  15. Defense helps pitching. They go hand in hand. A guy like Bello is going to give up a lot of ground balls. He needs guys to make plays behind him. Also, the more plays that aren’t made, the more pitches have to be thrown, which means less innings get thrown. The more pitchers you have to use on a given day, the more likely it is one of them won’t have it. You can’t count on 6 runs a game. You should be able to count on good defense. You may not win a game on defense, but you can lose one. Flemming wasn’t saying defense was the key to winning, he’s saying the Sox win when they play good defense. Correlation is not causation.
  16. Pitcher charged with an unearned run for the guy on second in extras.
  17. Unfortunately, Walter’s going to have to eat some innings today.
  18. Buxton is definitely out of his slump. 932 feet of homers today.
  19. OTOH, if Ryan keeps pitching like this, it’s not going to matter who the Sox started or use today.
  20. Raffy probably should have had the lead off hit as well; not an easy play but one he needs to make.
  21. Wil Flemming was just asked the question on the radio: When do the Sox win? Is it when they hit? Pitch? Play defense? His opinion was door #3, defense.
  22. Defense has done the Sox pitching no favors this inning. Kluber’s 8th and 9th on Tuesday woke up the Twins bats.
  23. To be fair, who could pitch anything like Martinez?
  24. Per the radio crew, the Sox have obtained Tayler Scott from the Dodgers for cash (Scott was recently DFA’d). This is a real dumpster dive. Scott’s season and career numbers make Ort look like a Cy Young candidate.
