    Well, since I have to leave for a while, the answer to the trivia question of who was the last MLB player to not wear a helmet is the guy who backed up Pudge Fisk Bob Montgomery

    Strike two call was criminal. Strike 3 was at least just off the edge.

    He absolutely had a play at home. Was anyone telling him where to go with the ball? When I was a kid, the catcher would have that duty. Say nothing, the throw goes through. Cut two, cut three, cut four meant cut the ball of and throw to second, third or home respectively. Cut hold meant just cut the ball off. We didn’t use cut home because it sounded to much like hold.

    Mostly the last couple innings once his pitch count got up over 60-65. Territory he hasn’t been in this year.

    More bad D. Casas screws up twice on that play. He had a play at the plate. He had Benintendi dead to rights if he throws to 3rd. He got neither.

    incorrect Helping hint: MLB made helmets mandatory for all new players in 1971. Veterans were grandfathered in and were not required to, although most did.

    At the very least, he needed to hit it hard somewhere. Maybe it gets caught, maybe it doesn’t, but those were the same swings we’ve seen for a couple years. He’s had ample opportunity to do something; he’s failed.

    True; main difference is homers. White Sox have 35 over the last 4 weeks (20 over the last 2 weeks). Red Sox are at 23 and 13.

    Banks is an opener. Probably his last inning. White Sox have the best ERA in the league over the last month or so; they’ve hit a bunch of solo homers (like yesterday) but overall their issue has been offense.

    Back when pitchers hit, one of the jobs of the 8th place hitter with 2 out was to do anything they could to get on and bring up the pitchers spot. At the very least, said pitcher ended the inning, allowing the leadoff guy to start the next inning. I guess Kike at least did that.

    Lots of righties vs. the left handed opener. May we’ll see Casas for Dalbec later on. Hamilton starting at catcher is no surprise.

    Would that be the same Jarren Duran who went 6-50 (.120) with 22 Ks from May 19-June 3? Absolutely Duvall needs to get going again, but sitting a guy on the bench for a bad 2 week stretch isn’t the way to make that happen.

    If you want to say Paxton and Sale are fragile, fine. They are. Both have a history of long spells on the IL. Duvall had a freak injury this season, but he has been on the IL a lot, so he could be considered fragile. If Devers pulls a hammy today and has to be sat on the IL for 10 or 15 days, is he fragile too? It's pro sports, players get hurt, sometimes in weird ways. Chang had a freak injury; he has no history of time on the injured list. As near as I can tell, the last time he might have been on it was his rookie year in 2019. Hamate bone injuries can take a long time to heal. Ditto McGuire. Freak injury, but one that has happened to many players. Again, a guy with no real injury history.

    Paxton only going 4 stinks from an overall team point of view, but if he was hurt, it’s more in the line of bad luck. Since we don’t know when the soreness occurred, maybe they were luckythey got 4 out of him.

    It had a lot of English on it so it wasn’t routine, but it still needs to be made.

    It still made it a 4 out inning. It’s another play that, while not easy, needs to be made. White Sox defense handed the Sox a win last night; Red Sox defense returned the favor today.
