  1. Not sure what game you’re watching. After the two homers, he got the next batter on a fly ball. Yeah, he walked 2 in the 4th, but got out of it with 2 strikeouts, and should have been out of last inning unscored on. You’re better than this.
  2. What makes you think he was talking about you?
  3. Stuck with the MLBN broadcast tonight (Costas and co.). MLB TV has decided that a Boston- New York game is subject to blackout restrictions here in western Illinois (even though I even am connecting via a VPN through Denver). So no NESN for me tonight.
  4. Why are you feeding him?
  5. He’s also 34 years old, an age at which more than a few guys have started to lose it. Jim Rice is a prime example of a guy who dropped off a cliff at 34. JDs bat has noticeably slowed; he’s getting a lot of soft hits. There is reason to be concerned.
  6. He’s got 33 RBI’s batting out of the 3-4 hole all season. JBJ, hitting 100 points lower, having 85ish fewer plate appearances and batting in the 8-9 slot, has 25. JD isn’t being paid to get on base ala a leadoff guy; he’s paid to drive in runs, and for most of this season he’s come up very small in that department. Ditto Bogaerts, who only has 34 RBIs.
  7. You would be correct. He’s so deep in the dung house he was DFA’d earlier today.
  8. Well, nothing much offensively in the first. Cue the panic mongers.
  9. Kid overcomes a few tough breaks (from a pitchers point of view). Good for him.
  10. No Devers; that foul ball off his berries the other day must be more serious than it appears. Edit -okay, I guess Raffy has a hamstring and a back.
  11. And only 1 of those 2 scored a run, Bogey's homer in the first. The other hit was JD infield single in the 5th, though to be fair, Franco made a great play to keep Duran from scoring there. Bogey did add a sac fly for the last run. Meanwhile, the Rays went something like 5-13 with RISP and also had a sac fly and a run producing groundout.
  12. A 4 run lead going into the top of the 7th means the Rays are going to win 95% of the time (https://gregstoll.com/~gregstoll/baseball/stats.html#V.-4.7.0.1.0.0). Could it be done? Yeah. Is it even remotely likely? No. Max's point was that is the situation you use your Robles type relievers. If they do great and give you a shot, fine. If they suck and make it worse, you've saved your better pen guys for a more likely win situation. Now I think everyone here agrees Robles should have been jettisoned a while ago. At the very least, he should have ceased being used in high leverage situations quite a while ago, as he hasn't done anything positive in them for a least a couple months.
  13. Not the first time the Jays have overreacted in such a situation. That’s been happening for a couple years, and Vlad Jr. is usually the one doing the chirping. Even tonight, Diaz was upset on that inside pitch by Pivetta (which I think was a purpose pitch) but the Rays team didn’t make a big deal about it.
  14. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. Think about that.
  15. That’s the speed they were saying. Luckily it looked like Vaz got his head turned enough so it didn’t catch him quite flush, but who knows. He must have at least passed preliminary concussion protocol, though, since he stayed in the game.
  16. 7 runs against anyone’s pitching will usually mean a loss. Every pitcher has a clunker once in a while.
  17. JD coming up small again with a chance to drive somebody in. 33 RBIs hitting out of the 3-4 hole all season. JBJ has 25 with 85 less plate appearances and batting 8-9 most of the time.
  18. He very well might. I don’t think he’s going to make it in Boston. Chavis seems to have achieved at least a modest level of competence in Pittsburgh. OTOH, Middlebrooks never did much anywhere else either. All I know is Bobby Dee has no confidence at the plate right now at all. He’s going up there hoping to not strike out and every close pitch seems to go against him.
  19. Have to believe Robles is gone as soon as Whitlock is back. Heck, he may be gone tomorrow to make room for Bella.
  20. Dalbec swings at ball 4 twice, but he gets so many close pitches called against him you can’t blame him. Inability to catch up to the same speed fastball 8 times is a different story.
  21. Except that Story can run, you’re right. Streaky power hitter who K’s a ton and is really good on D.
  22. Was it yesterday Devers hit one that nailed him in the berries? Not saying it’s the reason, just wondering.
  23. What was it Mussina said? You get 32 starts, you’ll have everything working 8 times, something working 16 times and nothing working 8 times. This just might be one of those last 8 for Pivetta.
  24. I think I speak for a lot of posters here; can you two take your mongoose and cobra act somewhere else? You are not adding anything to threads in your back and forth pissing contests.
