  1. Then by all means. Call and say I really don’t need your help, I just wanted to tell you I’m going to win the million dollars. Trevor Story sucks final answer.
  2. This is precisely the type of game he should be used in. Well behind. If he’s decent, that’s fine, maybe a miracle occurs and a comeback happens. If he’s bad, not really a big deal, you lose by a bigger score.
  3. What’s the saying? You get 32 starts a year. 8 you’ve got everything working, 8 you’ve got nothing, 8 you’ve got just enough. Today was one of those you’ve got nothing games for Early. They happen.
  4. He did add some muscle in the offseason. Could be adversely affecting him across several fronts.
  5. Anthony can’t improve on defense if he never plays defense. Do not discount the possibility of this being dictated from above, and if it is, what’s Tracy going to do? Do it his way and they aren’t going to send Chad back to Worcester, they’re going to put him on the unemployment line.
  6. Agree, but we really don’t know how much autonomy he has. If the front office is making all the calls, then Tracy has no leverage. If Cora balked, he gets his $7M salary; he still gets that now even if he gets fired. If Tracy is insubordinate, they aren’t going to send him back to Worcester, they’ll send him out the door and as a career minor league manager, there’s no way he has a best egg built up that will support his family for very long. Maybe he gets another job in baseball, maybe he doesn’t.
  7. Yes, but only to the extent of how many of them will pay $ to go to Fenway. Unfortunately, the sheep keep going, and when they don’t, when certain teams come to town (Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays, Phillies), visiting fans go. And those “foreign” dollars go into his pocket just the same as and at the same exchange rate as New England ones.
  8. The only reason Bello spent time in Portland and Worcester last year was on a rehab assignment after he was on the IL near the end of spring training. In essence, it was continuing spring training for him. He was never optioned down in the traditional sense of sending someone down. Crochet being out may have bought him some time and it will be interesting to see what happens when Crochet is back assuming Bello continues to blow goat chunks on the mound.
  9. I think so; both with the Cubs a decade ago. Suarez did have a win against the Astros in the 2022 Series but the Phillies didn't win it that year.
  10. Yeah, those 3 105+ mph (unfortunately at'em) balls he hit tonight really looked awful. He's looked a lot better the past couple days; maybe it's because he can show up in the clubhouse knowing he's going to play and that he's back in a lineup spot he is used to instead of bouncing around in various places including the bench.
  11. Last inning when Abreu was on 2nd, he tapped at his helmet several times prior to Cease throwing a pitch; all but one was a breaking ball. Does Abreu do touch his helmet on base all the time? Or was he sending a signal to Story?
  12. True, but Raffy played about 80 games in AA-AAA, Betts played about 100, Bogey was around 140. Arias is at 25-26 in AA only. We’re both saying the same thing; he needs to bake a little longer. If Mayer breaks down again this year, it’s not hard to see Arias with the big club next year (if there is a next year).
  13. Not really comparing them; just pointing out moving anyone up too quickly carries a lot of risk. The reasons for risk may vary.
  14. He’s played 25 games in AA ball. The Kristian Campbell story should be a cautionary tale about moving players up too fast.
  15. One notable difference today. In the 6th, Mayer was left in to face a lefty and promptly delivered an RBI single. He later made an outstanding catch of a foul pop. Cora would have pinch hit for him with who knows what results and I doubt Durbin or Monastario makes that catch to steal an out.
  16. Exactly. Target #11 said yes.
  17. Who knows? Story had started every game this year, the only player to do so, so maybe he was due for a day off. Could be he was so amped up he really would have been of less use than usual. One thought though, the last left side infielder who got upset at the front office was sent to the West Coast pretty quickly. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
  18. Plus it was the second out of the inning. The first was the OF catching the ball.
  19. Also took a really good play by the OF running all out towards the line (away from the throw), whirling and making a pretty good throw. It was a smart attempt by Rafaela. The dumb part was Ceddnne doing a pop up slide there. Stay on the ground and he stays safe.
  20. No. Mayer has to be given the chance to show that he can or can’t hit lefties at least at a passable level. A platoon ala Cora won’t provide that. Leave Durbin at 3rd for now.
  21. Breslow fired the staff. Doesn’t mean his ass isn’t on the line. I’m guessing he doesn’t survive the season.
