A Realistic Look at the 2026 Red Sox: Part I

This is not a true statement. Yes, he had a previous quad strain. However, Bregman’s injury this year was a right quad strain. In 2021, he was on the IL for a left quad strain. Not the same body part and 4 years ago, hardly indicative of being injury prone. Now, he is 32 and his previous 3 seasons have been trending down, which to me is more of a concern than an injury history (Mayer comes to mind regarding injuries). -
It’s Smiley-Beni Day, whence Red Sox fans celebrate the Yankees’ elimination. A week later than we would have liked, but better late than never.

Neither you nor anyone else here has any idea who was pursued and even less of an idea of what were the asking prices. Another starter was indicated, but I’m hard pressed to recall anyone resembling a front line starter being dealt at the deadline at all, indicating the asking prices were astronomical. There will be moves in the offseason via trade. Assuming Cheapo Henry will allow it, there’s money to spend as well.

To be fair, Early was decent enough tonight. He was let down by some less than stellar defense, some lucky placed hits and had the misfortune of facing a guy at the absolute top of his game. He’s never going to be a top of the rotation guy but he can be a solid #3. If I had to give a comparison, Bill Lee comes to mind (Early throws harder, but the other stuff is similar).

He’s been better than good, he’s been fantastic. His fastball was located well, his secondary stuff was excellent and located. He may never throw a game this good the rest of his career, but I’m betting he will. He’d have shut down any lineup in the majors tonight.

Just have to tip your cap to Schlittler. 99 mph located on his 100th pitch. 70% strikes through 7 innings. He was absolutely filthy tonight and would have shut down any lineup in the majors tonight.

He’s pitched pretty well in September and his supposed control issues are not here tonight. Not much you can do when a pitcher with his stuff his on.

I’ve as much said all that a couple times. It was a tough play but one we’ve seen Rafaela make multiple times this year. If it hit 10 feet in any other direction, it gets caught by someone. I still think Abreu cutting in front of him last night (?) where they almost collided may have affected it but we’ll never know.

What talent are you talking about? Please enlighten us on how you would have utilized the talent that’s on the roster right now differently.

Maybe Schlitters arm tightened up during that long inning.

Early deserved a much better fate this inning. But we’ve seen this all year; plays that should be made aren’t and the floodgates open.

I meant if it’s hit 10 feet In any other direction it’s caught. It was a tough play, but one we’ve seen him make before. Yankees have had some seeing eye hits this inning, but that’s baseball.

No it wasn’t. Stanton is a very dangerous hitter. DP still in order. Not all walks are bad and he almost got him on the 3-2 pitch. He got the ground ball that could have been 2 if it’s hit 4 feet right.

Wonder if Abreu’s play last night (cutting in from of Rafaela) affected that play. They got to work on the communication next year.

Schlitter is locating that 100 mph heater pretty well. Not like he’s just throwing it belt high down the middle. Sox seem to at least have an approach the second time around. Story went the other way as did Bregman. Yoshida’s gone that way twice for hits and Rafaela went oppo as well. That being said, they need to try and work the count a little better. Getting the pitch count up is likely the Sox best bet.
