Bottom line, Sox have one hit. They haven’t had a baserunner since Contreras reached on the error in the first that scored the run. Sometimes the other pitcher is on and Cavalli certainly was tonight.

It doesn’t matter. Right or wrong, other teams are going to start doing it a lot if he can’t just walk away and let the bat speak for him.

Have to admit, mouth aside, that Cavalli has been really good tonight.

Sox have been awful offensively the last 9-10 innings.

I actually did that once in Little League. Pitcher almost hit me twice and somebody yelled out of the stands “hit him”. I lined the next pitch off the pitchers foot or ankle. Everyone was laughing.

Hardly a surprise, he’s probably the second best fielding 3rd stacker of the last 20 years behind Nolan Arenado. Amazingly, they were high school teammates at El Toro HS in California. Chapman was a couple years behind Arenado.

I've found one other time it has happened. It was last season and the player involved was Taylor Walls of the Marlins. The umpire was ...... Nic Lentz. I guess it's similar to drawing a line on the ground with your bat if you don't like a call. Big difference between Walls and Contreras was Lentz was the home plate umpire and Walls looked at him when he tapped. Contreras never looked at Lentz and was most of the way back to the dugout, which means Lentz was watching him the whole way, looking/listening for something. for something. He wanted to toss him. Lentz will be behind the plate tonight. I think every fan in attendance should tap their heads on every ball/strike call.

Not a routine play but one he normally catches.

He hasn’t been good lately but you can’t blame the last inning on him. Bloop that should have been caught plus a bad throw, a bunt and a ball hit about 30 feet. One run tops should have scored.

That ball was maybe 25-30 feet from home plate. Durbin had no chance to get to that ball and even if he did, he had no play at home or first.

In retrospect, Chapman should have balked the initial runner to 3rd. He’s done it before.

100%. And he’s been around long enough he should know better.

He was in back of 3rd, where you’d expect the throw to go. I’ve criticized him in the past for not backing up but he was in the right spot this time. It was just a horrible throw.

Actually, Yoshida has never been thrown out stealing in MLB. He picks his spots very well.

There’s no one I trust either, but Early’s still adjusting to pitching every 5 days. And will have to do it again next Wednesday. The right move is to take him out. The problem getting someone to get through the 7th

Nice play to end the top of the 5th, good work as the on deck hitter on the Cedanne slide and the the big hit. Great inning for him.

I said should be. On this team, he and Contreras are really the only choices for the 3-4 slots.

Anyone else notice Durbin coaching home there, telling Rafaela which side to slide on? He’s a guy of limited ability who knows how to play the game.
