The players bear the brunt of that. A manager/coach can only do so much. This team may just need a tough guy manager. Cora has shown he can manage, but his style doesn’t seem to fit with this bunch.

Yeah, that was such an easy play. There are a ton of plays to bitch about tonight. That was not one of them.

Just catching up after running some errands. Duran should have been removed from the game immediately after that grand slam. Not for losing the ball; that can happen. Making absolutely no effort to go back and get it is inexcusable. Fred Lynn and I went back and forth sometime last week about base running mistakes and benching. Most of them were because of being too aggressive. There is no excuse for laziness. Duran’s ass ought to be sent to Salem or Greenville.

That was a veteran pitcher totally schooling a rookie. Each splitter was just a tad lower than the one before. JBJ has no such excuse other than he can’t hit.

It’s a middle of the pack roster; in the AL East, that could well be last place. What I do see is a team that knows deep down they aren’t going to win.

Note that both hits for the Sox tonight have gone to the opposite field. There’s a lesson in that guys.

Personally, I’d keep Vaz; he’s one of the few guys on this team who actually looks like he give a damn. He at least puts competitive ABs together.

Key was what was Plawecki yelling. Nate’s got his back to the plate; catcher has to yell where the play needs to be made. Either way, I’m not going overboard on it. Bogie’s poor throw set the inning up.

Eovaldi made the proper play. He was running hard towards first to field the ball, would have been very tough to stop, whirl and make an accurate throw for the tag. Not one to try in the first inning.

The nightmare scenario is Soto being traded to the Yankees. That would pretty much eliminate the one weak spot they have, Gallo. -

Larry’s mind is made up; no amount of actual data indicating how Brasier has been faring since his return from Worcester will change it. Brasier not a great pitcher; no one would say that. As the #4-5 guy in the pen, he’s fine.

Sure you would, but it still says you will fail more than 7 out of ten times and it still remains a fact that he allows a run every other inning on average. This was one of the other innings. There are multiple ways to get to a 4.50 ERA. You can pitch an inning a night and give up a run every other one of them. You can pitch 10 innings over 10 games, giving up 5 runs in one of them and 0 in the other 9. And countless combinations in between. -

Which means he gives up a run every 2 innings and a hit a little less than 3 times in 10 at bats. And keeping a runner from scoring from 2nd with no outs is a tall order for the best pitchers (easier if you’re facing this year’s Red Sox)
