    WAY BETTER? Pitching, both starting and bullpen. It’s also the most difficult to fix, especially starting pitching. And from what I’ve heard, the FA starters are not all that fantastic coming up this off-season. Eovaldi is in the top 4 of who’s available. Judge isn’t coming here. It’ll either be back to the Yankees or home to San Francisco.

    The official strike zone is the area over home plate from the midpoint between a batter's shoulders and the top of the uniform pants -- when the batter is in his stance and prepared to swing at a pitched ball -- and a point just below the kneecap. In order to get a strike call, part of the ball must cross over part of home plate while in the aforementioned area. So as long as part of the ball touches any part of that pentagonal prism above the plate between those two theoretical levels, it’s a strike. The front is the easiest point to do that, but not the only one.

    A coach seat would be an overpay. Seriously, I just sit the guy down for the rest of the season. He literally contributes nothing and is certainly not going to be here next year. Let Pham, Bogie, Devers rotate through DH. My only surprise was that he actually hit the ball in the 8th; I figured threee sliders down for a K.

    Not even close; spikes were not up nor was there any movement of them except straight ahead. Any fielder who wants to block the base that way risks what happened there. Don’t they all these days? The way fielders block bases these days , I’d like to see more guys go in feet first. It would cut a lot of the blocking out.

    Arroyo fouled a pitch off his foot yesterday; it looked pretty nasty. He finished the AB but he was very gimpy doing so. He certainly got a nasty bone bruise if not something worse. I doubt he was really available today.

    Not watching, but even if true, recall his first couple starts when he was giving up runs without the ball leaving the infield. Lots of soft contact (and lousy defense) in those games. It evens out.

    Don’t see it myself. For one thing, he lives in Arizona. Another factor is his sons are 13, 10 and (just turned) 9. I don’t see him leaving that given the amount of commitment that a broadcasting gig would entail

    I see this brought up a lot by you. So what should Cora do to prepare them mentally? Please enlighten us with whatever advice you would give Cora. For that matter, what would you do if you were in his position.

    The last time the Twins won a season series against the Yanks, George W. Bush was in his first year as President (they also split a couple times in 2005 and 2006).

    September call ups are going to be weird this year. As we all know, the roster is set at 28, no more no less. In past years, the minor league season ended right around Labor Day. I was at a local High-A game a couple weeks ago and noticed that the Midwest league season isn’t going to end until September 11; I just checked Worcester’s and they list games until September 28. Revolving door, especially with any pitchers?

    And Meals hasn’t helped tonight. He extended Bello a couple of times earlier in the game and Schreiber on two pitches last inning.

    Sounded like he made a really good pitch and Ursela was just better. Also sounded like he struck Ursrla out and once again didn’t get a call.

    Would have required McGuire to hit a moving target. Could have been a real disaster. I realize Strahm is now in, but this isn’t the first time the Sox have been awful on D behind Bello.

    Devers offensive woes are carrying over to his defense; it’s happened before.

    You would be wrong; he’s got the stuff to be a #3 or even a #2 if he can add another pitch.

    That was easier when you had more than 3 guys on the bench. I get your point though. At least in Verdugo’s case he knew he screwed up (at least according to the radio guys).

    How about putting some blame on the players? They are professionals, they bear a lot of responsibility for the lack of focus. At this level you shouldn’t need your daddy to get you ready to play.

    Can’t see the game due to blackout (VPN workaround not working tonight). Radio guys are all over Verdugo for that blunder.

    It’s not the number of games to be made up but the number of teams to go through. The Sox have to pass 4 teams to get the last spot, and there are no more games against either the White Sox or the Mariners. Plus I would guess the O’s, Rays and Jays are also playing a division heavy schedule which means somebody ahead of the Sox will win on a given day.

    Going to interesting to see what two guys they bring up Thursday when rosters expand. Remember, every team has to have a 28 man roster, no more, no less.

    He did what good pitchers do when they don’t have their best stuff, he battled, kept the score reasonable and gave his team a chance.
