  1. You needed to cite a source for the fight song?
  2. Franchy is definitely a placeholder. He’s 27. He’s a AAAA player. And to be fair about his WAR, his career totals basically say he has played one full season over his 5-6 year career. He might figure it out enough offensively to get to a 0, but his defense is always going to keep him from getting much past that.
  3. A lot, most far less noteworthy than Fiderych.
  4. I remember one circa 1974 when the Angels beat the Sox in 15 innings. Tiant went the distance for the loss; Ryan was removed kicking and screaming in the 13th or 14th.
  5. Pitchers didn’t throw every pitch max effort back then. Even a guy like Ryan didn’t throw every pitch 100+, he saved that for when he needed it.
  6. Bingo. The reverse is a Bloom move.
  7. Doubtful they’d be 6-0, because that would imply that the Red Sox actually scored in those extra innings. In at least 2-3 of them, they didn’t. Their futility with men on second has been well documented.
  8. My eye test says he’s had some hard shots right at people. He’s also had a lot of soft contact as well. In other words, his normal offense. He’s at his best when he uses the whole field, but once he did that a few times, he gets pull happy again, and that’s when he really struggles.
  9. Ground out, strike out, deep fly ball.
  10. An absolutely stupid piece of hitting by Devers. That is not a pitch you swing at 0-0.
  11. He’s pressing at this point. Coors effect would explain long flies falling short; it does not explain inability to make contact when needed.
  12. On too many foul balls off the face mask? He may not be the dumbest base runner in all of baseball, but he’s definitely in the starting lineup.
  13. If it doesn’t hit Pivetta, it’s right at Bogaerts. Edit - Vazquez remedies that unfortunate bounce.
  14. Buckner was the goat of the series not because he let that ground ball through, but because the #3 hitter in the line-up managed to end something like 14 or 15 innings, many with men on base. People have pointed to the fact that Jim Rice did not drive in a run in those 7 games, but he led off a ridiculous number of innings due to Buckner's ineptitude at the plate and seldom came up with anyone on base, let alone in scoring position.
  15. It reiterates my disdain for those who in previous years kept saying just stick JD/Schwarber/whoever at first base. Dalbec is finally looking fairly comfortable there after what, a year, year and a half? It ain’t easy switching positions, even more so at the major league level.
  16. It’s just it has a lifespan of about an hour after the end of the game. You may get actual discussion on the main threads (plus fewer emotional responses).
  17. 2nd time this series Sox hit an at’em ball with a guy on 3rd (Bogie the other night was the other when he tried to go through Romano’s stomach).
  18. 2nd time this series Sox hit an at’em ball (Bogie the other night wa the other when he tried to go through Romano’s stomach).
  19. A serious question should not be asked in the Gamethread
  20. This Manoah has some serious stuff; he is good.
  21. Shaw will be here until they deem Casas ready. He’s not taking PT away from anybody; he’s not platooning. Today is his 7th game, and most of his games have been when JD has been hurt. He is way down the list of offensive issues right now.
  22. No, the main job of a manager is to give his team the best chance of winning over the course of 162 games. Personally, I’ll take the opinion of a guy who played 14 years and 1400+ games at the major league level(and was a regular for several years early in his career).
