    How about putting some blame on the players? They are professionals, they bear a lot of responsibility for the lack of focus. At this level you shouldn’t need your daddy to get you ready to play.

    Can’t see the game due to blackout (VPN workaround not working tonight). Radio guys are all over Verdugo for that blunder.

    It’s not the number of games to be made up but the number of teams to go through. The Sox have to pass 4 teams to get the last spot, and there are no more games against either the White Sox or the Mariners. Plus I would guess the O’s, Rays and Jays are also playing a division heavy schedule which means somebody ahead of the Sox will win on a given day.

    Going to interesting to see what two guys they bring up Thursday when rosters expand. Remember, every team has to have a 28 man roster, no more, no less.

    He did what good pitchers do when they don’t have their best stuff, he battled, kept the score reasonable and gave his team a chance.

    Enjoyed the game just fine. Some tense moments but entertaining. To paraphrase what Jim Lovell said to Marylin Lovell in Apollo 13, you missed a hell of a show.

    Most teams can score a guy from second with no outs; it’s almost a given. Key in extras is font give up the second run, which he didn’t. The Red Sox consistently can’t even advance a guy from second, much less score him.

    Okay, that’s 2 at Raffy tonight. Vlad needs to go down early tomorrow. Start Brasier or whoever to do the job

    At least he hit the ball hard for once. I was expecting a Called K or maybe a weak grounder to short. Still, he has cost himself a ton of money with this years performance and really, his woes go back to the last 1/3 of last year.

    Correct on Lonborg. 1 run on 3 hits between games 2 and 5. Gibson’s 1968 season was sick. 22-9 (at a time when W-L meant a lot more than it does now), 1.12 ERA and a 0.853 WHIP, 34 starts, 28 complete games and 13 shutouts. IIRC, he never was removed from a game during an inning.

    So what? Discussion actually involves accepting that others can have opinions and beliefs different from yours and possibly agreeing to disagree; it's something sadly missing in many aspects of life today.

    Those numbers are not acceptable, but despite missing 40 or so games, he's STILL second on the team in home runs and tied for 2nd in RBIs; Verdugo tied him today and both are only 5 behind Devers. The ineptitude of the offense can be pointed at a lot of players, but most especially at the guys who have hit 3rd and 4th most of the season, played a lot more games and are still behind him in both categories by a fair margin.

    Bogaerts has hit into his DP; JD’s turn now.

    I think his back is still bothering him and has been most of the season. I think Bogaerts has some nagging little thing as well. Their swings just don't look the same as in the past. Devers is obviously taking it easy on his hamstring, as his average and hard contact has plummeted since his return. Problem is the Sox need all three and really don't have viable options for even one of them, let alone all of them. JD is probably the easiest to replace.

    Just shows it matters when you play a team. Even the worst teams get hot for a week or so a few times a year. If you’re playing them one of those weeks, you’re in trouble.
