  1. In a loss. We often see 4 page threads in a win, but losses usually are 10+ pages.
  2. Do it a lot and I have no problem benching a guy. After one instance, no. As a player, getting benched after any mistake (and it took a weird hop and a perfect throw to get him) means I’m not going to try anything.
  3. You bench people like that and all you’d ever see is advance one base at a time. Never try anything.
  4. You do realize you can only bench 3 guys before you’re out of guys to bench, right? That was a weird play, the ball hit the turf and backed up like a pro golfer landing a wedge on the green. Not an excuse, but weird.
  5. Last night was the Sox best chance for a win in this series; the pitching matchups tonight and tomorrow never favored Boston in any way.
  6. Anyone else see who the Jays will be playing this weekend? They get to play what amounts to the Royals minor league all star team. Beni is among those missing the four game set.
  7. New Blue Jays manager should get off to a fast start; 10 Kansas City Royal players will miss a four game set in Toronto due to unvaccinated status. Royals will be missing all 3 of their starting outfielders plus their primary backup of, their main utility guy, both catchers, 2 starting pitchers and a reliever. The Jays will be playing a bunch of AA and AAA players.
  8. Exactly. Eliminating Barnes and Danish (since they aren’t on the active roster right now), you’ve 4 guys in Sawamura, Brasier, Davis and Strahm who all have their moments good and bad, and like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get from them on a given night. And you generally are going to use at least one per game.
  9. I knew you wouldn’t actually answer my question. Whoever is not an answer.
  10. Question is would he want to manage.
  11. He was kind of out of players but I would have had him hit for Franchy and hope ran into one. Problem was if JD had only tied the game, he would have had to go into the field, but that’s a risk I would have taken.
  12. So who would you have put in? How would you have stitched together the last 4 innings? Come on, answer a simple question. Prediction -you won’t.
  13. Kluber’s got no hit stuff tonight; might have to hope Cash overmanages (again). Didn’t the Rays no-hit the Sox over 9 innings earlier this year? Looks like it’s just you and me, and I have to bow out to grill some dinner, so I’ll watch the rest of the game on delay.
  14. In today’s game, Gibson couldn’t be Gibson.
  15. Sale not commanding the fastball all that well. This inning he’s not commanding much of anything.
  16. 0-2 homers? To me it depends on how the hit happened. Guy gets one on a pitch six inches outside or tomahawks a ball above the zone, not much a pitcher can do. Getting one on a middle middle fastball, bad.
  17. The Rays are sitting on fastball; have they even offered at a slider? Edit - Choi finally did but with 2 strikes, he had to.
  18. I know you can’t tell for sure on television, but Sale’s fastball looks straight; not a lot of movement.
  19. Horrible D and a couple of well placed ground balls. He was hardly the issue that inning.
  20. Bello will be optioned out tomorrow when the Sox activate Sale. Kid needs to work on those secondary pitches big time. Dalbec would be sent down if they had a viable first base option, but with Casas out since sometime in May, they really don’t.
  21. Even if Franchy doesn’t make that play, assuming identical outcomes the inning ends on the fly ball to Refsnyder. Dalbec’s miscue opened the door for all runs this inning and all are unearned.
  22. Not shocking, though. Bello is not ready for prime time, and having to pitch against the same team twice in a row is often a challenge for a lot of seasoned pitchers, let alone a guy making his first 2 mlb starts.
  23. Valdez should be sitting in the dugout right now. Horrendous defensive inning.
  24. Remember, options now mean option years. I’m pretty sure Valdez is in his 3rd and final option year, so for 2023, he’ll either have to stick with whatever major league club has him or he’ll have to be DFA’d. Up until this year, within a given option year, a player could be sent down any number of times during the year. Starting this year, that was limited to 5 times, but then they added something about that not taking affect until they went to the 26 man roster, which was late May IIRC. Confused? Understandable. I think Valdez has at least 3 more yo yos this year.
  25. Left off JD, who is at 166 and 4.6 (which includes tonight's homer).
