  1. I'm praying for that, but I'm not sure it will work. There are so many other more important things worthy of serious prayer.
  2. $16M/2 with an $8M vesting 3rd year.
  3. I think his name is JD Martinez.
  4. Not even prayer will work.
  5. The fangraph's value page is highly skeptical. Longoria signed for long term security at a discount rate.
  6. Moreland is okay, but 1B is THE position for power, and we need power. Status quo just doesn't do it for me, unless it is part of a plan to save money for something very powerful.
  7. Apparently, many people see him as being a whole lot worse than he was.
  8. ...and CS%
  9. Catcher's career are shorter than most. I chose Vtek's 7-9 year years where he was FT. I don't see that as arbitrary. I can see how that time period excludes some catchers from making the list, but I lowered the PAs to get a wider sample of catcher comps. I also don't think VTek's old age years should be held against him, but I'm fine with using his .776 career OPS. So, from 2000-2017, there are 43 catchers with more than 3000 PAs. VTek finished 12th in catcher OPS. IMO, he was top 5 on defense (despite the poor CS%)> His staff-handling was great, but I realize that is subjective.
  10. Look what Nunez, Davis and Reed cost us.
  11. No. I became a Sox fan in 1972. Fred Lynn was the best defender I saw, until he crashed into the wall. Darren Lewis was right up there. Rick Miller was very good. JBJ is the best Sox CF'er on defense I have seen.
  12. 1) I think HRam is better than Moreland. 2) If I think Moreland is $3M better than HRam, I don't sign him for $6.5M to replace HRam. Does that explain it better?
  13. I think people sometimes put too much stock into just a player's most recent season. While I always feel like the fangraph's value page is over inflated, they has Longoria worth $20M this year and over $25M in his previous 4 seasons. (he was over $32M in 3 of his previous 4 seasons.) My guess is, he is not viewed as overpaid. Longoria made $13M this year
  14. Sox fans are not the only people who know VTek brought more to the table than what the numbers showed, and the numbers showed he was top 5-7 for a pretty long time. Pitchers who have been caught by dozens of catchers sing his praise more than I've ever heard any other catcher receive.
  15. If it was between only Moreland and Hosmer, I'm a 100% for Moreland.
  16. Moreland is okay, but he's not an upgrade over a healthy, producing HRam. If HRam sucks or gets hurt, finding similar players to Moreland mid season is one of the easiest things a GM can do.
  17. While I firmly believe JBJ has been the best defensive CF'er since I started watching the Sox in the early 70's. I have to say, I have no way of knowing where he should rank in MLB. 30 CF'ers with 1500+ innings from 2015-2017: According to DRS, JBJ ranks 8th at +24. According to UZR/150 ranks 11th at +4.9, which is a good number but not great. Can anybody who has seen any of the below players for more than 200 games tell be JBJ is definitively better than any one of the 10 guys with a better UZR/150 since 2015? 25.1 Kiermaier 16.9 K Pillar 15.2 Hamilton 13.5 J Lagares 10.5 M Taylor 9.5 L Cain 8.1 L Martin 7.8 E Inciarte 7.1 O Herrera 6.9 B Buxton 5.0 AJ Pollock 4.9 JBJ I know I can't.
  18. I loved the Sale deal.
  19. Why wouldn't they want to unload the most over-rated player to a divisional rival? My point was meant in an overall sense- not just for Longoria. Compared to what has been given up for Stanton, Ozuna, Longoria and others, we got hosed in the Kimbrel, Sale & Pom deals.
  20. Big question mark, yes, but if he fails, we could have traded scraps for some as good or better than Moreland.
  21. When was the last time Travis hit .850? We don't want HRam to play a full season, so why look for his last one? HRam was at .866 just last year. That's better than Travis has ever done on the farm. HRam was over 1.000 in 2013 in 86 games. I just want .800 from HRam in 480 PAs. .750 would beat Travis and is certainly $6.5M better than what Moreland will give us.
  22. 1999-2005 http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2005&month=0&season1=1999&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 VTek placed 6th out of 53 in WAR, and WAR fails to capture staff handling and pitch framing. (6th in OPS at .813) Only 4 catchers had more PAs and a higher OPS in this 7 year period. Some above VTek were notoriously bad "pitch handlers". From 1999-2007 http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2007&month=0&season1=1999&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 VTek placed 5th out of 68 in WAR (10th in OPS)
  23. 10AAV is like $15AVV now. Sub Dice-K for Lugo then.
  24. Wow! This was the season to have a deep farm!
  25. ...almost as bad as the CC, Lugo and Beckett contracts.
