  1. If Mitchy bats clean-up, we'll know JF is the puppet master.
  2. Highest payroll. Worst farm among contenders. Hmmm....
  3. Updated with the Moreland signing.... The 40 man Roster (luxury tax 2018 cost): [37 non-free agents on roster] $31.0M Price $22.0M HRam $20.6M Porcello ($19M Sandoval- not on roster/ counts against luxury tax budget) $13.8M Pedroia $12.0M Kimbrel ($11.7M Castillo- not on 40 man roster/does not count on luxury budget) $11.5M Sale (option) $6.5M Moreland Total Under Contract: ~$137.5M Arbs --from MLBTR estimates: (year of arb) ~$9.1M Pomeranz (3 of 3) ~$8.2M Betts (1 of 3) ~$7.6M Bogey (2 of 3) ~$5.9M Bradley (2 of 4) ~$3.6M Kelly (3 of 3) ~$2.7M ERod (1 of 4) ~$2.1M Thornburg (2 of 3) ~$2.1M Leon (2 of 4) ~$2.1M Smith (1 of 3) ~$2.0M Holt (2 of 3) ~$1.5M Vaz (1 of 3) ~$1.2M Wright (1 of 3) ~$0.9M Workman (2 of 3) ~$0.6M Swihart (1 of 4) $50.6M in arbs Pre-arbs: Beni, Devers, Barnes, Hembree, Scott, Hernandez, Maddox, Travis, Lin, Marrero, Taylor, Velazquez, Johnson, Elias, Brentz, Jerez, Beeks, Shepherd & Buttrey Total Pre-Arb Costs: $5M Total Estimated Cost (No Other Free Agent Signings Counted): $192.5M +13M Player benefits= ~$206M Luxury Tax Budget Limit: $207M That leaves us slightly over $30M to spend and stay under the second penalty limit. It could be more if we trade some salary.
  4. No, we had about $37-38M to spend to stay under the second tier. That's counting all arb estimates, the player benefit cost and the scubs that fill out the roster.
  5. Actually, what was said was they had to cut $30M. They cut that with Ozuna, Gordon and Vargas. He could have told GS, we might keep you, since we cut what we needed to cut. look at Yelich and their catcher begging to be traded now. That could have been GS, too had jeter had half a brain and 1/4 guts.
  6. No. The buy out is figured in, because that is all that is guaranteed. The option year is the AVV minus the buyout that was counted previously, so actually Sale's luxury cost would be ... $12.5M - $1M buyout- $11.5 in 2018 and $12.5 in 2019 ($13.5M -$1M). Maybe the $1M buyout for 2019 counts on 2018.
  7. His $6M value is worth more keeping. It's what we'd get for JBJ that would be the reason to trade him.
  8. You are either grossly undervaluing JBJ or grossly overvaluing Corbin. JBJ has 3 arb years left. Corbin has one. Corbin does not impress me at all. The YANKS can have him. 2016-2017 19-26 4.53 4.04 xFIP is okay 101 ERA- is meh 1.48 WHIP is horrible 3.31 BB/9 8.05 K/9 1.30 HR/9 I'm thinking more like JBJ & Hembree for 3 arb years of Danny Salazar.
  9. Not true. The leverage was to tell GS he's staying with a losing team for 3 more years before his opt-out. He'd come begging for a trade to any place competitive or more commercially lucrative to his "brand".
  10. Sale will be on an option year, so the AVV of $8.2M is not correct. It's $12.5m this year and $13.5M next year.
  11. We will probably trade JBJ, if we sign Martinez. That would free up enough for Nunez or a decent 5th starter. or, we could just keep a buffer for the deadline. $7M + $6M projected JBJ arb= $13M
  12. JD replacing the 2017 HRam would be better than replacing the 2017 JBJ. Who would you project has a better overall 2018? HRam or JBJ. I'd pick JBJ by a landslide. JBJ should get a very good pitcher, and if we include Travis and maybe Beeks, we could do very well.
  13. If you call Brentz, Leon, Marco Hernandez, Marrero and Swihart as a full boat, I'm shocked. Our offense sucked last year. We are replacing Young with Brentz. Period. Yes, we'll have Devers and Marco for a full season, but no Pedey for at least a half season and no Nunez. Standing pat on offense should not have been an option.
  14. Nunez up 3rd? Based on what? 2 months with the Sox this year?
  15. I can't think of any Sox player mentioned more than JBJ as the object or other GM's desires. He is wanted by many GMs. They highly value CF defense, decent power and cost control for 3 more seasons.
  16. He got crap for GS. What's worse than crap? I've been saying for weeks and weeks that Stanton was not going to bring back a huge haul. Just about everyone was expecting much more than what Jeter got. Even the SFG offer was reportedly much better. I stand by my position. The odds were much greater he could have gotten more by expanding the list of suitors and not letting Gs run the show. GS would have begged to be traded once Gordon and Ozuna were traded away. He'd have expanded his list to 16 teams. I have no doubt. He wanted out of Miami and that was more important than essentially choosing 2 teams only.
  17. I wondered the same last year. Many felt we jumped the gun and lost out on EE due to the the haste.
  18. We're over the luxury limit already, and we're not done spending. Next year the tax goes up a hefty notch.
  19. $13M as insurance?
  20. Not totally, and there's a less than 50% chance but significant nonetheless he does as good or better than 2016.
  21. We better not trade JBJ for a "serviceable back end guy." I'd rather not sign JD, if that's the best we can get for JBJ. I expect a decent #3 at worst. If we add a couple scraps, we should get a solid #3 or low #2.
  22. Duda could have been had for 1 year and maybe $7M. I wonder what Morrison will get, but he was more "iffy". I'm glad we did not get Hosmer, but I liked signing JD as the DH and going with HRam at 1B--chances are he doesn't vest playing there either.
  23. I'm thrilled we didn't get Hosmer, but Moreland returning is very sad. 1B comps last 4 years HRs Moreland: 22. 23. 22, 2 (inj), 23 in 2013 EHosmer: 25, 25, 18, 9 Morrison: 38, 14, 17, 11 (under 360 PAs in 2 low years) OPS Moreland: .769, .720, .812,> .736 (2013) EHosmer: .882, .761, .822, .716 Morrison: .868, .722, .685, .735 Looking at the projected contracts, Moreland looks like a steal, but if I see this guy in the 4 slot next year, I'll scream! (Note: Duda has 30, 7, 27 and 30 HRs with the 7 coming in 172 PAs. His OPS has been .818, .714, .838, .830) Combined 2014-2017 OPS/ISO Player HR/PAs .818/.242 Duda 94/1813 .799/.160 Hosmer 77/2552 .762/.196 Morrison 80/1875 .755/.187 Moreland 69/1778
  24. I'd rather lengthen the line-up by batting Bogey 1st, even if just vs RHPs (maybe JBJ vs RHPs?)... 1) Bogey 2) Betts 3) Beni 4) JD 5) Devers 6) Moreland/HRam 7) JBJ/HRam 8) Pedey/Marco 9) Vaz
  25. God! Stuck with HRam/Moreland in the 4 slot again !?!?!?! What part of last year's 4 slot made DD want a repeat? .240/.322/.423/.745 27 HRs and 93 RBIs weren't too bad, but we'll need much better in 2018.
