  1. I should have read this before posting in the game thread. These are the moves that make the most sense.
  2. Even more than all the hard contact and hits he's getting, he is having quality at bats, as you said. Very good eye and very disciplined. He really has not gotten many cheap hits.
  3. Agreed. Of course, many of the fans who criticize Farrell relentlessly (and Francona before him) are the same fans who wanted Bobby Valentine. Enough said.
  4. Agreed on Porcello. I'm not sure why Farrell put Koji in the game today in that situation.
  5. Shuffling the line up is likely to do more harm than it does good.
  6. This post really wasn't necessary UN. Stop.
  7. It's amazing how well the team plays when Holt is in the game. As Bellhorn posted in the other thread, the team was 23-9, now 24-9, when Holt starts. That said, I read the following stat today: Red Sox Stats ‏@redsoxstats Brock Holt hit .208/.288/.260 from games 6-41. Tell me more about how he is the reason they won all those games. Whatever Holt was doing to 'inspire' the team, it was not his hitting. LOL That said, Brock had a heck of a game today, both offensively and defensively.
  8. I think Vazquez is going to be the odd man out. He needs to work on his hitting, but mainly, he has options.
  9. Fair enough.

    The Cubs

The Cubs had an awful series, no doubt. They are in a bit of a funk right now, going 4-10 in the last 2 weeks, with two, 4-game losing streaks. They have lost 4.5 games in their standings lead during that period.
  11. IMO, probably the biggest blow to the rotation was ERod, not Buchholz or Kelly. I'm not saying that Buchholz or Kelly have been better than ERod has been, but I think the FO had higher expectations, learning curve notwithstanding, from ERod. If ERod had not been injured and had performed similar to what he did last year, this rotation looks a lot different. The dependence on Buchholz/Kelly to fill one rotation spot doesn't look so bad.
  12. All stats are fun.
  13. You are probably correct that Farrell would have been fired last year if he had not been sick. That said, you are making assumptions about the team's morale that really have no merit.
  14. Yes, more vindication. You were absolutely right. Here's the thing, though. After blowing past the luxury tax limit with the signing of Price and giving up a pretty good package of prospects for Kimbrel, the idea of further overpaying for more pitching, either in money or in prospects, was not realistic. Seriously, you would think that between all of the options that we had to fill those other rotation spots, someone would step up. IMO, it made far more sense to wait until midseason to reassess what our needs were. It's hard to fathom that all of our pitching options, besides Wright, have failed so miserably. Even Price, who is about as sure a thing as you can get, has not lived up to his billing. In short, entering the season, I had no problem with the pitching staff that Dombrowski assembled. I was wrong. Fun stat: O'Sullivan's win last night was the first win from the 4/5 slot since May 31.
  15. I don't follow the Tigers organization that closely, but my understanding is that their farm system is in terrible shape.
  16. My second favorite team this weekend was the Mariners.
  17. You do have to consider how bad Fister was last year. He was removed from the rotation and put in the pen because he was performing so poorly. Also, he was out for a month due to injury. While Clay missed time due to injury as well, he put up much better numbers in his walk year than Fister did. Was Fister worth the risk? At 1yr/$7mil, absolutely. (FTR, he can earn an additional $5 mil based on the number of innings pitched.) Would I have preferred signing Fister over Buchholz? Based on their previous year's numbers, no.
  18. I do have questions about Farrell and the coaching staff in regards to the number of underperformances that have plagued this team the past 3 years. That said, there is no indication that he has lost the players or that there is any discord in the clubhouse.
  19. I happen to agree that Farrell waited too long to pull Wright, knowing how he struggled in his other rain soaked outing. However, calling him one of the worst managers in baseball and saying he is inept at in game management is quite a stretch. He makes mistakes, or at least what we fans deem to be mistakes, but all managers do.
  20. His reputation is gutting the farm in an effort to win now. To be fair, the 'win now' directive has been sent down by ownership, both in Detroit and here.
  21. That would be the worst. If Dombrowski is going to gut the farm, at least get us a young pitcher that we will have under control for several years.
  22. So when the Sox were playing so well in April and May, does Farrell get any credit for that? Or was the team playing well in spite of Farrell?
  23. I fully endorse this post as well.
