  1. I fully endorse this post.
  2. No, he did not have a poor chance of living up to his contract. The chance of him living up to that contract was actually pretty good. It didn't work out, but the risk of $13 mil was well worth the potential reward.
  3. I get all that. But you're not going to get the quality of pitching that he can provide for anywhere near that price. His reward far outweighed his risk. The problem is that none of our alternatives have worked out.
  4. Props to O'Sullivan for getting the job done. Things got a little dicey in the 6th and 7th innings, but the pen held on. It looks like Hanley is back. As bad as last night's game was, the Sox came back and won the series. Good stuff.

    I agree.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but how can anyone be against Punky Brewster?
  7. I love you. That is all.
  8. The term 'no brainer' is used loosely. That said, 1 yr/ $13 mil for a pitcher who put up 3.2 WAR the previous year really shouldn't require much though. Dombrowski more or less said himself that the decision was a no brainer.
  9. I am not debating the fact that Buchholz has stunk. All of you that were opposed to picking up his contract have been proven correct. Must feel good to be vindicated.
  10. Things are not as dire as some people think they are. I don't think firing Farrell is the answer. That said, Varitek for manager, Pedro for pitching coach.
  11. The decision to pick up his option is about as close to a no brainer as you can get.
  12. I won't avoid watching the Sox, but I will avoid the game threads. They break my spirit, and that's not a good thing.
  13. It's really an enigma that we can't find one guy to be consistent in the 4/5 slot. Wilkerson deserves a chance. Nothing else has worked.
  14. Based on how he's been pitching recently in AAA. I didn't say he would come up and be an ace. I said that he should be able to keep the team in the game.
  15. I am really thinking that Dombrowski is going to go all in and get us top starting pitcher at the deadline. I don't know who that will be, but I know the cost will hurt. I don't think he's going to play this half way.
  16. You can say that all you want, but it won't change the fact that picking up his option was a no brainer.
  17. Well technically, that is true. And perhaps the game turns out much differently without Shaw's two errors. That said, Clay really needs to stop making statements like these. He should take a page out of the David Price Handbook and own up to his performance.
  18. I will not be boarding your .500 train. I'm still driving the bus to the playoffs. Don't worry, I'm saving you a seat.

    My sentiments exactly.
  20. Well no worries. I'm done with game threads during the game. It's comments like these that keep me away. I tried. It's all I can do.
  21. I read an article a few days ago that said that almost every World Series winner since 2000 had a sub .500 month. Most were in the .400s, but there were 3, I believe, who played .360-.390 for a month. The point is, it is typical for good teams to have a bad month. The test will be whether they break out of it soon here or continue to swoon.
  22. No, I said it would be 3-0.
  23. Oh geez guys, now I remember why I don't do game threads.
  24. Did I say otherwise?
  25. I don't think anyone claimed that he didn't know.
