  1. I disagree that not trading him was a mistake in foresight. There was risk in keeping him, but there was also a good chance that he pitched well for us.
  2. That is true enough, but I am willing to bet that if the Sox had won 5 out of the first 6 games rather than 3 of 6, Swihart would not have been sent down so quickly. Vazquez certainly could have used more time in AAA after not playing for a year.
  3. Nothing to argue with in this post.
  4. Vazquez will be back. IMO, he was sent down mostly because he had options and the other two didn't. Vaz is a defensive wizard, but his defensive wizardry has been off some this year, for whatever reason. Leon is not defensive slouch. Neither is Hanigan.
  5. Neither one of us ever said otherwise. That said, they are not opinions that are completely without merit.
  6. Give Dombrowski some credit. He understands the needs of the team a lot better than you or any of us do.
  7. The Sox are on a nice little roll in gaining momentum in the division. We need to keep that going tonight. I like our chances with Price on the mound and our offense looking like it's back on track. Get it done! Go Sox!!!
  8. I do agree with you that he could benefit from a change of scenery. I understand why Sox fans do not want him on the team. The business decision of picking up the option is another matter.
  9. Give Swihart more than 6 games? Not rush Vazquez back? Have some patience? The Sox lost a couple of games, one in which Swihart looked pretty bad, and the FO made a rash decision. JMO
  10. Well, the fact that Buchholz' performance doesn't come as a surprise to you doesn't come as a surprise to me. If he were on the Yankees, would you have wanted his option picked up?
  11. The Sox have gained 3.5 games on the Os in 5 days!!!
  12. Based on the FO/Farrell making it known that they were operating under a sense of urgency and the fact that Swihart was sent down after six games.
  13. Why would I foresee a career worst year after the way he pitched 2 out of the last 3 years? Even in 2014, his peripherals, while not good, were not as bad as his ERA or his W-L record would indicate. I could foresee a down year where he would at least pitch well enough to be our #5, but I wouldn't think he'd be this bad.
  14. I would have been okay if the Sox had traded Buchholz away for someone decent, though I was not advocating for him to be traded. I thought he had a good chance of being our #2 pitcher behind Price. At worst, I figured he'd round out the bottom of the rotation nicely. I could have foreseen an injury, but I did not foresee him having his career worst year.
  15. Kelly and Buchholz are both going to the pen. They just might be able to stabilize the pen to the point where Dombrowski can focus solely on starting pitching.
  16. My sentiments exactly. My preference has always been Vazquez over Swihart at catcher, but IMO, that move was done under a 'sense of urgency', aka 'panic'.
  17. I'm as big a Vazquez fan as anyone, and I am actually okay with his current batting line so long as the rest of the offense continues to hit. However, it would not make much sense to me to lose either Hanigan or Leon right now, and lose that depth, when Vazquez can be sent to the minors. It would be one thing if Vazquez were far outplaying the other two, but right now, he is not. His defense is not even at the level that it was in 2015. I think Vaz will benefit from some time in AAA, but aside from that, this is the move that is best for the team for other reasons.
  18. No doubt Moon. I'm not trying to say that he's going to be the next Buster Posey or anything like that. I'm all about relevant sample sizes. I was just pointing out that he is making solid contact. His line drive rate is at 30.3%, up from 18.8% last year, and his hard hit % is 33.3%, up from 14.1% last year.
  19. Here is Farrell's explanation of why he used Koji: “We had three pitchers to get through the two innings,” Farrell said. “We’re thin down there. We know that Koji has had limited success, if at all, coming in (the middle of) an inning. So if we get into a situation where Robbie Ross runs into a little bit of problems, it was the reverse to start with Koji, bring Robbie in if needed. And it also gave us the option to use Robbie if we lengthen it out in the ninth inning to stay away from Craig (Kimbrel). And that’s the way it turned out.” This reasoning actually makes some sense.
  20. You can make your point about the ump being terrible without completely belittling and dismissing another person's opinion.
  21. On this, we agree. He adds so much value to the team, both in tangibles and intangibles, even when he isn't playing at his best.
  22. Good information here Hugh - thanks. It will be interesting to see what other details come out about this, and what other punishments, if any, are handed down.
  23. I acknowledge that there were legitimate alternatives to Clay. Perhaps they would have been good signings in addition to picking up Clay's option, but there is no way I'm not picking up that option. Honestly to me, there's not even a discussion about not picking it up.
