  1. It doesn't have to be known. Frankly, I don't really care one way or the other. I just take exception to people making false statements on the matter.
  2. And as I said before, the circumstantial evidence is 'tainted' by each person's biases, and I include myself in that statement.
  3. Don't forget the credit for the wonderful farm system that he preserved from Theo and continued to build on his own.
  4. I think he could be a very serviceable back end starter. Even without him, though, I like the deal.
  5. I loved Ellsbury, and unlike Damon, I do not begrudge him for signing with that other team. I would have welcomed Ellsbury back for a reasonable contract. I know a lot of people felt we should have ponied up the big money for Ells, but JBJ vs Ellsbury is Exhibit A on why you have to often let your free agent stars walk, regardless of how painful it might be.
  6. I like the way you think.
  7. Absolutely. I really liked this deal and thought the Sox made out good on it. Smith and Elias still have several control years left.
  8. Teheran - Atlanta is asking for the moon for him. I like Jack's suggestion of Hellickson and Hill.
  9. LOL This has nothing to do with baseball, but I'm wondering why I'm reading so many Richard Gere references suddenly. This is the 3rd one since yesterday.
  10. Do I want the team to grab a top of the rotation guy? Absolutely. Do I think it's an absolute need? No. Price needs to be an ace. Porcello needs to keep doing what he's been doing. Wright, even with a little coming back down to earth, should still be solid. Get us a couple of consistent and durable mid or bottom rotation guys, and I think our staff will be fine.
  11. Dombrowski did say that he fielded more calls about Miley than he did about Buchholz or Kelly, but that he did receive calls about the latter two. The point being that there are teams who wanted Buchholz. Miley was traded because he apparently brought the best package in return. Carson's injury and hindsight aside, most people thought that this was a very good deal for Dombrowski.
  12. Contrary to what other's have posted, I have never said that Ben is without fault. Only that he does not get the credit he deserves and that he gets far more blame than he deserves.
  13. And the way I read Rosenthal's tweet was that he was unsure of whether it was Buchholz or Miley that part of the deal, not that both were offered and he didn't know which one the Ms would pick.
  14. He did not say that he was offered to Seattle. He said that his name was involved, which it was in all of the media speculation about whether it was Clay or Miley that was offered to the Mariners.
  15. I would be a happy camper too. The Hellickson speculation seems to be picking up steam. My contention has always been that we should not mortgage our future with a 'win now at any cost' philosophy. I understand that we have to give up something of value to get get something of value back, but I think that it's possible for us to improve our pitching staff without gutting our farm system. We might not get a flashy ace type pitcher in return, but IMO, we don't need one.
  16. Except I have yet to read a single report that actually says that Clay was offered to Seattle.
  17. Once again, a point well made in so few words. You really should post more often VA. You are awesome.
  18. But that educated guess it based on one's interpretation of the circumstantial evidence. And one's interpretation of the circumstantial evidence is subject to bias.
  19. Let me also add that both Farrell and Butterfield have first hand knowledge of Hill and they both think quite highly of him.
  20. It makes sense. It's an upgrade of the bench. He gives the team not only better quality depth, but also better insurance in case one of our infielders hits the DL. He is good enough to be a starter, if it came to that. Plus, he's a right handed bat. Personally, I've always liked Hill. I understand the concern about giving up starting pitching depth. The point made about how having Miley as additional depth would have helped the team, even if he isn't pitching that great, is valid. Dombrowski isn't stupid. This move all but guarantees starting pitching is coming our way soon, and probably more than one starter. It's not a huge move, and I'm not crazy about giving up Wilkerson, but I like the move overall. I like the addition of Hill to the team.
  21. LOL Admit it MVP, this trade got your hopes up a little bit, didn't it?
  22. Ah. Then I will join you in your state of confusion.
  23. I can agree with and accept this opinion. I take issue with some of the other assumptions that are being made.
  24. I don't understand the snarkiness in this post. Are you saying that it's okay to state something as fact when it's pure speculation?
