  1. Pretty much everyone except for a few devout supporters have acknowledged that Price has not pitched up to expectations. Even Price acknowledges that. When the team needs their ace to stop the bleeding and to be a stopper and he doesn't do that, that's a problem. It's not the biggest problem that the team has, but it's still a problem.
  2. Hmm. Haven't you told me time and time again that I'm not allowed to post what other people will do or think?
  3. You seem to think that there can only be one "problem" on the team. The fact that our biggest problem is our #4/5 slot does not preclude Price also being part of the problem.
  4. Koji has received a lot of criticism because his numbers are not flashy, but the bottom line is, Koji has gotten the job done at the same rate that Kimbrel has. Kimbrel might do it in a more dominant fashion, but Koji has been solid as far as holding and saving games goes.
  5. Put it this way. As much as you don't want Clay on the team, multiply that by e^100 and that's how much I don't want Joba on the team.
  6. I'm sure he gives weight to the entire career. This year could be a blip. All I'm saying is that his performance in the year prior is a big factor. The circumstances with Clay have changed a lot from last year to this year.
  7. If he does that, then certainly the Sox have to seriously consider picking up the option. Either way, the decision is not a no brainer this year.
  8. Much of that is posturing on the Braves part. At least I hope so. The Braves have every right to ask for the moon, but let's be reasonable. What the Braves are reported asking for is akin to the $70 mil offer the Sox gave Lester. Unless his price comes down considerably, and I do mean considerably, let's not.
  9. One year can make a big difference. Previous year's performance is a big factor in the decision, IMO.
  10. I strongly disagree with this. I am one of the biggest "no brainer" defenders last offseason, and I see it as anything other than a no brainer this season.
  11. LOL Correct. Hyperbole runs rampant here.
  12. To be honest, I don't think he deserves another chance, but since he's getting it, we hope for the best. I have not written him off completely. The talent is there. I won't be surprised if he pitches like a #2 the rest of the way out. Then again, I won't be surprised if he continues to stink. Go Clay!
  13. Price is far from being the biggest concern on this team, but if he pitches in the 2nd half like he did in the 1st half and the team fails to make the playoffs, then he will most definitely be part of the problem. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. That said, I think Price will perform in the 2nd half like the ace we thought we were getting.
  14. "Yoan Moncada hitting third for World Team, Andrew Benintendi leading off for Team USA. Somewhere, Ben Cherington smirks, sips a whiskey." To all, Ben says you're welcome.
  15. I am surprised that Buchholz is getting another chance. I was sure we had seen the last of him as a starter for the Red Sox.
  16. It would be more effective if anyone actually claimed that Price was the problem, and/or if Price didn't have an up and down first half.
  17. He started off a little shaky in the early innings, but settled in very nicely. Great job by him. Great job by Ziegler. Great win. Great sweep. Great way to end the half and go into the All Star break.
  18. Holt stated yesterday that he may be ready to play today. I doubt that he does play, but it sounds like he will be good to go after the All Star break.
  19. Based on what I've read, he sure looks like someone who would be able to make the adjustments fairly quickly. But you never know. I just don't think that calling him up is necessary at this time.
  20. O'Sullivan was place on the DL to make room for Ziegler. So, who gets the start on the 19th?
  21. Regardless of how Porcello pitches for the remainder of this season and for the remainder of his contract, IMO, it made very good sense to lock him up when they did. Keep in mind that while the $20 mil may have seemed steep, the Sox went with a slightly higher AAV for fewer years. Good deal.
  22. Maybe Kelly will be a solid reliever for us too?
  23. No, I don't think our situation is dire. Yes, we look thin, but at the moment, our thinness is not hurting us. We are tied for the first wildcard spot and 2 games back for the division lead. The team has been on a nice little run in July. That is not dire. I have no doubt that if Farrell and Dombrowski feel that we need Benintendi, he will be called up. We are not at that point.
  24. Another series win, but like I said earlier, I don't want to settle for winning the series. I want the sweep. Great game by Porcello. Nice job by both Barnes and Koji. Koji got a little help from the ump, but who's complaining? With Kimbrel out for a while and Koji and Taz both needing to be used judiciously, it would be huge if we could turn to Barnes in high leverage situations.
