  1. Let's hope Porcello goes 8 innings and we won't have to worry about any of that. Let's also hope our offense gives us a nice cushion, though that might be tough against Fulmer.
  2. Chad Finn 4m For those who wonder whether Clay Buchholz has a miracle in him this season, he has the exact same ERA now (5.42) as Derek Lowe had in '04. Just sayin' ...
  3. I'm guessing there's also pressure from the players' union not to sign team friendly deals.
  4. Ask and you shall receive.
  5. The Kiss of Death Reverse Mojo will be in effect tonight. It's time to put these low lifers in their place. Get it done boys! Red Sox @ Tigers Friday.....7pm...Another pen implosion likely around 10pm. Porcello 16-3 / 3.30 For the first time in his career, Porcello pitches at Comerica Park as a visitor. He does so in the midst of a career season. Lifetime at home with the Tigers, Porcello was 36-29 with a 4.58 ERA in 89 starts. Fulmer 10-3 / 2.25 Coming off his first professional shutout, a four-hit, nine-strikeout gem last Sunday vs. Texas, Fulmer takes the mound against the team whose president, Dave Dombrowski, brought the former Mets prospect to Detroit last July.
  6. You're on a roll Dojji.
  7. I didn't like the signing either, mostly because of the length of the contract, but you are absolutely right. It is unfair to say that the signing was without merit.
  8. As Cycles pointed out, though, 5 years is an awfully long bridge to a guy who is up 2.5 years later.
  9. Wouldn't it be easier for me to just slash the tires?
  10. Barnes was unavailable yesterday and might still be unavailable tonight. He said he is still feeling sore from his 30-some pitches the game before.
  11. I agree. It's time to cut ties with Abad.
  12. It would be a problem, IMO, if the catcher got injured early in the game. You're not going to pinch hit for your starter if it's early, and having him come to bat 2-3 times could be an issue. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but nor would it be ideal. This is a reason why I really liked the idea of having Swihart taking reps at 1B, 3B, or LF. He'd give you a 3rd catcher in a crunch.
  13. I can 99.9% guarantee you that Ben was not fooled by Pablo's 7 game playoff numbers.
  14. This too. I preferred Headley, but there is certainly some solid rationale for signing Pablo.
  15. LOL You give me too much credit with the whole 'valve stem remover' thing. I honestly did not even know that such a tool existed.
  16. I don't have a problem with Farrell bringing in Taz, but I do agree with you that he left him in too long. Taz should have had an extremely short leash. However, the bigger problem is not Farrell's decisions, but the fact that the pen is just not executing. There is not much that Farrell can do about that.
  17. Yes, there is defense for it. As I just posted in the game thread, Farrell basically had a choice between Tazawa, Ziegler, and Hembree. Ziegler's numbers against the upcoming batters were not good. I can understand an argument for bringing in either Ziegler or Hembree instead of Taz, but I don't think it was a no brainer. Everyone in the pen has pretty much stunk recently. Farrell's hands have been tied.
  18. I can't really fault Farrell for bringing in Tazawa. Recently, pretty much anyone that Farrell sends out there has stunk. His choices were very limited. Ross had already been used. Barnes was unavailable. Kimbrel was being saved for the 9th. Abad? I don't think so. That leaves Tazawa, Ziegler, and Hembree. Choose your poison. Ziegler had worst numbers against the batters coming up than Taz had, if I'm not mistaken. Don't know about Hembree. I guess an argument could be made for Ziegler or Hembree, but neither of them was a clear cut choice.
  19. I agree. We took a big hit with Smith's injury at the beginning of the season. That was my favorite Dombrowski move, BTW. I also agree that Dombrowski did everything that could reasonably be expected. I'm not happy with some of the prices that we paid, both in $ and prospects, but he set this team up to be a legitimate contender for 2016. A GM cannot be held accountable for the injuries and underperformances.
  20. I believe you misplaced the decimal point. I fixed it for you.
  21. This is the Yankees thread Bell. Once again, stick to the theme. Yankees bad. Red Sox good.
  22. I don't think he's been a bust, but he has certainly not lived up to the level that I'm sure the Yankees thought they were getting. Either way, a five year contract for him was not a smart move.
  23. LOL I still haven't forgiven Theo for that one, and as you know, I am Theo's #1 fan.
