  1. Thank you to the umpires for calling this game in a reasonable amount of time, rather than waiting 3+ hours to do so. I can't stand Showalter, but in fairness to him, he did make some comment about being ethically fair to the Sox, knowing that we have a game at 1:00 today. That's more than I can say about the Tigers' organization.
  2. LOL And he still has 2 years remaining on that contract, doesn't he? I wanted McCann when he was a FA, but not for that price.
  3. Pretty much every poster here is a very knowledgeable baseball fan. IMO, anyone who enjoys and follows baseball enough to be a regular poster on a baseball forum knows baseball pretty darn well and knows what they're talking about. We've all been right and we've all been wrong.
  4. I know where you're coming from Youk. I feel so bad for the losers, mainly the ones who were expected to win or at least medal. It's crazy to think that an entire life's worth of work comes down to a performance that lasts minutes or even seconds. I still haven't gotten over Michelle Kwan being beat for the gold by fellow American Tara Lipinski. That said, the joy of watching the winners, or even athletes who win a bronze and take home the first medal ever in that event for their country, makes up for it. I also take solace in knowing that many of the athletes who fall short of their goal the first time will continue to work hard and return for another Olympics. Many succeed the next time around. Also, I believe all of those sports have yearly World Championships. While they are usually not played out on a big stage, the competitions are pretty big deals for the athletes.
  5. Well if that's the case, forget about it. Much of the appeal was that he didn't cost anything.
  6. Still my hero.
  7. I agree, Price needs to get it done, no matter what. This is why we got him. It's time for him to be the ace that we all thought we were getting. I'll settle for nothing less. Get it done and WIN!!!
  8. If Farrell, Buchholz, Pedroia, and Papi are all on board with having him back, I can't imagine that he was a clubhouse problem. That said, Dojji's point about creating a media storm is valid.
  9. This is a very valid point. It could definitely turn into a media circus.
  10. Right, that was a stupid thing for him to say. He is not the brightest bulb in the bullpen. I don't see that as being a clubhouse issue though.
  11. As opposed to his other options? 'Happy' might not be the right term, but he has said that returning to Boston is his top choice, and he has to know that we already have a closer. I think he would be willing to accept a 'lesser' role to have a chance to pitch for a playoff contender.
  12. Probably Abad, no? I suspect that you are right about him landing with Theo.
  13. Agreed, and it wouldn't even be much money. He also gets a very short leash, both on and off the field. If he doesn't work out for any reason, it would be easy enough to cut ties with him.
  14. The holdovers, whom I believe are down to Clay, Pedroia, and Ortiz, are all on board with bringing Papelbon back. Think about it. What issues did he really have with the clubhouse while he was here?
  15. I just posted elsewhere that I think Papelbon is worth serious consideration.
  16. It doesn't matter what inning it was. If Papi had gotten injured being on the basepaths that game, people would have been criticizing Farrell for not pinch running for him. You know that I speak the truth.
  17. Of course not. But seriously, who else was there realistically besides Pomeranz? Regardless, they would have been saying "WHY DIDN'T FARRELL PINCH RUN FOR ORTIZ??!!??"
  18. Because pitchers are usually brought in when no other options are available. They really aren't running threats. Professional courtesy, if you will.
  19. I don't know if Papelbon is being discussed elsewhere, but personally, I think picking him up is worth serious consideration. I believe that any attitude issues that he has had with other teams would not carry over to the Red Sox. If he is picked up, it would have to be made clear to both Paps and Kimbrel that Paps will not be the team's closer, and may not even be the set up man. If Paps is not okay with that, then don't sign him. Yes, I'm aware of his less than stellar numbers this year.
  20. It not only sets the fans up for disappointment, but it causes the fans to lose trust and confidence in their reports.
  21. If he keeps pitching well, I can see the option being picked up again. However, it's not the no brainer that it was last year.
  22. I am optimistic that he will return very soon, but you're right about our medical staff. I don't know what it is, but I wouldn't think that they'd continually blow smoke toward the fans. What's the point in doing that? Either way, you have to take what they say with a grain of salt.
  23. LOL I'm still pulling for the Jays in this series against that other team. Obviously, we're still shooting for the division, but the good news is, we've opened up a 3 game lead over the next wild card contender, which is not bad considering that the Tigers passed us a couple of times last week. We need to be able to take them down another notch or two. Yup, our BP could use some rest after last night. To be fair, in the games where Price has not imploded, he has done a good job of eating innings.
  24. Nice. Your 3 year old is a smart one.
  25. LOL He has it in him. I know he does. How great would it be to sweep those bums in their ballpark, albeit only a 2 game series? Come on Price, don't let us down!
