    In assessing the Devers trade, it's not nearly as simple as looking at it as a Devers for Durbin swap. I think we all know that. But yes, please do not become Grissom, Part 2.

    IKF can also catch in a pinch. I'm good with what we have at catcher. If anything, I'd look for BP help.

    I am pleased with Breslow's work this offseason.

    I most definitely am refreshed by the idea of a batter who can bunt and doesn't strike out. The strike outs over the past two seasons have frustrated me greatly.

    Cost controlled and under team control through 2031. What's not to like? He sounds like a solid player offensively, defensively, and on the basepaths. Not a superstar in any regard, but solid.

    The Red Sox have addressed my biggest concern with the infield in acquiring Durbin, IKF, and Rodgers (minor league deal). We now have some solid depth and some solid flexibility all around. For those concerned with Mayer playing every day, the trade for Durbin also addresses that. Durbin may not be the big bat that some were hoping for, but Durbin does make us a better overall team. As as added plus, we did not have to trade Bello.

    I won't argue with that. He's still a good depth acquisition.

    There we go. Our infield problems are solved, with an added bonus of improving catching depth. But seriously, this is a good depth acquisition and possible starting utility player?

    I'm sure there are. It's just a matter of the price tag, either in dollars or in players. Even with Spring Training drawing near, I am confident that Breslow will pick somebody up.

    I don't think we need a big upgrade, but an upgrade would be nice. Obviously, a big upgrade would be nicer. If worse comes to worse and we go into the season with Mayer at 3rd base and Romy/Hamilton/Rafaela at 2nd base, it wouldn't be the end of the world for me. We'd just have to win more games with our pitching as opposed to our offense. That said, our infield is one injury away from being in near dire straits. For that reason, we really need to add someone.

    I'm impressed. I'm glad to hear that KC is one of the guys who reported early, and that he will be getting a lot of reps. As far as the WBC goes, I'm sure it's a thrill for players to represent their home countries. It's fun to watch. Just please, no injuries. That always concerns me.

    Breslow is going to have to get creative. I'm still confident that he'll add an infielder. As I posted elsewhere, it might not be as big an upgrade as we are hoping for, but it will be something.

    I never wanted him signed for a 10-year deal. But I was very happy to have him remain on the Red Sox. Despite his poor defense, I would have kept him at 3rd base to keep him happy and put Bregman at 2nd base. But once you behave the way that he behaved, you have to go.

    Ha. We'll be happy going into camp. The happiness might not last long, but it'll be there to start! Or not.

    I opened my MLB app today, and it showed the upcoming game schedule for the first time since October. This got me a lot more excited than it had any right to.

    It's not even like we got a foot of snow or anything. Maybe 2 inches? And we had another snow day today. LOL

    Yes, I realize that. Hopefully, he will figure it out. He won't figure it out if he doesn't get the playing time.

    Possibly. I realize that he struggled against lefties last year. I just feel like the Red Sox are committed to him as a FT player rather than as a platoon player. Sure, he will sit against some tough lefties from time to time as a day of rest, but not as a platoon. As of now, we don't have the right-handed bats to fill the role anyway. That may change.

    I still don't like the idea of trading Bello, but acknowledge that 1. we are very strong in starting pitching, and 2. other teams will listen. I would not trade Bello if the trade does not result in a net positive gain for the Red Sox, regardless of whether it fills an infield need or not.

    I will be rather surprised if we don't add a 2B or a 3B soon. It may not be as strong an upgrade as we'd like, but we have to improve our infield depth options, if nothing else. I don't think that Mayer will be platooned. Barring injury, he'll play mostly everyday at either 2nd or 3rd base.

    Frankly, I never wanted Duran or any of our outfielders to be traded this offseason. I know that it might still be a necessity, but I'd just as soon keep them all. Someone will inevitably get injured, and we'll be grateful that we have strong outfield depth.

    Memo to Breslow: Infielder still needed. Get it done. Send Red Sox fans to camp happy.

    One of the few times that I am in 100% agreement with Mr. FredLynn. Well said. Thank goodness we got rid of that contract.
