  1. "Crochet looks ready, although Duran ripped a gapper off him today" Don't know whether we should be glad that Duran was able to rip a gapper off of Crochet or upset that Crochet gave up the gapper. LOL It's nice to hear that Casas is moving around the field pretty well. I still have high hopes for him.
  2. Exactly. Since the beginning of time, teams have been trying to figure out how to build their rosters to win in the postseason. In short, the best indicator of how well a team will do in the postseason is regular season run differential (and even that correlation isn't particularly strong.) In other words, score more runs than your opponents.
  3. No worries. My posts are almost always optimistic leaning. It's hard work, but someone has to do it. LOL I think 2nd is more realistic than 4th, and I think that 2nd and 3rd are equally close in likelihood. I won't go as far as saying that 1st is more likely than 4th, but I will say that 1st is more likely than last. And I definitely have Red Sox October baseball penciled in on my calendar.
  4. Home runs do provide instant scoring, I can't argue with that. I also do not argue with the fact that there is value in home runs. I just disagree with the idea that you need to be able to hit a lot of homeruns to win in the postseason.
  5. That's a fair opinion. I disagree with it, but it's fair.
  6. I give the competition plenty of credit. I didn't say that 1st was as likely as 4th, just that it's possible that we finish 1st. I agree that it's also possible we finish last. If I'm predicting right now, I'd say we finish in 2nd or 3rd place in the division. I just take exception to the statement that the Sox are a 4th place team, at best.
  7. The randomness of baseball, particularly in the short series that the postseason is comprised of, is something that has always piqued my interest. Of course, a well-timed homerun can win a game. But so can a strike out, a great defensive play, or even a bad bounce. It's simply just not true that homeruns are what wins in the postseason, generally speaking.
  8. There is almost 0 correlation between hitting homeruns and winning in the postseason. The correlation is positive, but it's so weak that it's basically nonexistent. I will say it until I'm blue in the face, the playoffs are very largely a crapshoot.
  9. Plus, homeruns do have a big impact on the game, which I think gives a sense of having more importance than they really have. I'm not saying that homeruns aren't nice or aren't important, but they are not the reason why teams win in the postseason, statistically speaking.
  10. I also agree that we have a complete team. The offense is maybe not as strong as we'd like, but it should be fine combined with our strong pitching. I feel a lot better about our infield after the recent additions, all within days of each other. We have some good depth and versatility all around.
  11. Despite some of the players looking like they're not in the best physical shape, baseball players are incredible athletes. I am regularly impressed by the plays they pull off.
  12. It's what I like to hear. Of course, we'd hardly expect Sonny to say anything less than flattering.
  13. The Yankees will be a good team. I am a strong believer that the playoffs are mostly a crapshoot, so the goal is to get there.
  14. The statement that HRs win postseason games really isn't true though.
  15. I really, really, like this post. Thank you.
  16. I bow to you and others who come up with all of these trade proposals. I've mentioned before that I'm not as eager to trade Masa as most posters here are, but if there's a deal that makes sense for us, then I'll be good with it.
  17. LOL This literally made me laugh out loud. Get it done, Breslow!
  18. Amen, brother Larry, amen. Breslow did a good job this offseason. The supposed lack of homerun power doesn't concern me as much it concerns others. There are other ways to score runs besides hitting homeruns. Not all chicks did the long ball!
  19. Stop. If you had said 3rd place team at best, I might have been able to let that slide, but 4th place at best? It's possible that we end up in 4th place, but it's also possible that we win the division. Or at least finish in 2nd. It will be a competitive division, for sure, but give the Red Sox a little more credit.
  20. These ST pictures make me happy. 😊 As do the mid 50s temps we've had the past 2 days. We're getting close! I am positive that I would injure myself trying to catch a major league pitcher, even if they threw nothing but fastballs.
  21. Despite the Yankees bringing back virtually the same team, they'll find a way to win. They always do, much to my dismay. I voted for 92-95 wins. They'll make the playoffs. They always do, much to my dismay. I don't know if they'll win the division or not, but they'll be in the hunt. An early playoff exit sounds reasonable. 😜

    Olympics

I'm a big fan of the Olympics. I watch as much of it as I can. Figure skating is my favorite event (all 4 disciplines). It's a sport I follow pretty closely every season. OTOH, curling is something I only watch during the Olympics. I must say, I am completely enthralled by the competition and completely impressed by the curlers. Cory Thiesse is a beast. Good stuff.
  23. Those low scoring games are the most frustrating to watch, no doubt. It stinks to "waste" a great pitching performance. That said, I will take a top pitching staff and mediocre offense over an elite offense and mediocre pitching any day of the week. Hopefully, we will find ways to outscore our opponents far more often than not. Please cut down on those very non-productive at bats.
  24. I am not as bothered by Yoshida still being on our team as most people seem to be, but I understand your point.
  25. You don't think the team can contend for a ring? Pitching and defense will be our strength. By Pythagorean W-L, we were a 92 win team last year. Even if we are only marginally better, that puts us at about 95 wins.
