  1. There are no particular individual prospects that I'm concerned about. It's the magnitude of prospects he traded away. FTR, I was 100% against the Kimbrel trade (though I fully admit I liked having him on the team.) But IMO, Dombrowski not only overpaid for Kimbrel in prospects, he overpaid in money also.
  2. I am 100% with you on the latter, not so much on the former.
  3. Woot! Down to double digits! Let's go!
  4. Most posters on here, myself included, get stuck to our positions. It's rare that someone changes their opinion over the larger philosophical issues. Every once in a while, but not often. I read post after post after post on here about how Henry needs to open his wallet and spend more like the Dodgers because he can afford to do so. None of those posts have moved the needle on my opinion one bit. Yes, I'm stubborn, but I'm really not.
  5. Most owners are not willing to keep writing checks and subsequently eating money from bad contracts. I can't blame them.
  6. It's not about whether the prospects made it or not. It's about taking a top 5 farm system and making it a bottom 5 farm system in about 2 years. I understand that one of the important purposes of a farm system is to use the prospects in trades. But Dombrowski went overboard. When you have a bottom 5 farm system, you hit a cliff.
  7. 100% agree. We most definitely had a cliff.
  8. Epstein is the GOAT and probably always will be. The Theo/Tito combination was the best. Generally, I'm not a fan of the opt out and would prefer that they go away. Unfortunately, sometimes that's the only way you can get a player to agree to a somewhat reasonable contract.
  9. I am almost 100% sure that we won't be adding 2 bats. IMO, we have too many in house options to add 2 additional infielders. I'm okay with that. Add one bat at 2nd or 3rd base, then go with Mayer at the other. I'm still hoping to see another top of the rotation starter added. I'd rather see that than adding the second bat.
  10. That's the thing. With a 30th rank farm system, winning is not going to be sustainable.
  11. I don't miss Dave. Nonetheless, I think it's less about the actual GM running the show, and more about Henry's current philosophy of how to build a team.
  12. Bloom did exactly what he was hired to do. To be fair, Dombrowski also did exactly what he was hired to do, though I'm strongly opposed to the "win now at any cost" philosophy, which IMO, we are still indirectly paying for. I have confidence in Breslow.
  13. This fan will not be upset with a Casas/Romy platoon at first base.
  14. Whether he'll be ready for Opening Day or not is a valid concern. If the Red Sox have doubts that he'll be ready, then they need to find someone to fill that role. I do really like knowing that Casas has been in Ft. Myers doing what he's supposed to be doing to get healthy and ready.
  15. Well then, pencil him in!
  16. It's might a little high for Kim, but for one year, I would have been okay with the signing. He's been worth it in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
  17. I agree that the Red Sox could have at least matched the Orioles offer for Alonso. Again, it's a year longer than I would have liked, but it's not absurd. I'm going to hate having Alonso playing against us in an O's uniform.
  18. I would have liked to have either Schwarber or Alonso on our team. I agree that they will likely be very good for another 2-3 years. That said, there is a reason that Anthony, Mayer, and don't forget Campbell were all ranked so highly as prospects. I understand that top prospects don't always pan out, but they are certainly worth taking a chance on, IMO, especially when you figure in cost. I really prefer not to use Masa in left field. I'd like to have Refsnyder back. I'd have him take some more reps at 1B too.
  19. I get it. It's hard to be disappointed in our offseason wishes. Personally, I am in favor of developing young talent and locking them up early. I would rather do that than spend a ton on a free agent who will eventually age out of his contract worth.
  20. You may be right, Bell. I guess I have a little less skepticism in him because I'm willing to enter the season with him as our starting 1B. I think he can produce 2023 numbers. Perhaps that's not good enough. We'll have to see what other moves Breslow has up his sleeve.
  21. I 100% endorse this post. Well said.
  22. We need to be patient, which I understand can be hard to do when you see free agents being signed by other teams. Sometimes good deals are made early. Sometimes (I believe you mentioned the JD signing) being patient pays off. Sometimes, there are deals in the works that we have no idea are being discussed. These things take time. Let's see where we stand in March.
  23. I am not one who necessarily agrees with the opinions of many on this forum when it comes to spending, but I do agree that it's not a good look when the fanbase continually feels deceived or lied to.
  24. We should have been able to afford Alonso.
