  1. Who decided that February would only have 28 days anyway? It must have been Punksutawney Phil.
  2. I love watching great defensive plays, even when they're made against us. Yes, it's frustrating, but you have to tip your cap. I'm thoroughly impressed by what MLB players can do on the field. I'm getting ready to watch the Yankees/Red Sox game that I recorded. Exciting times for me!
  3. There was good reason to dump Betts. His reported contract demands to the Red Sox were unreasonable, and those were made at a time before he was even a free agent, a time when he should have been willing to take a bit of a discount, if anything. As the saying goes, it takes two to tango.
  4. As I previously stated, no one was going to match the production of Betts. But at the time of the deal, it was a decent deal when you factor in the amount of money it cost to sign Betts. It's a shame that neither Verdugo nor Downs panned out.
  5. I heard this the other day and thought 'that can't be good.' Apparently, though, the issue he's having doesn't affect his swing at all. I don't know how that works.
  6. I was good with trading Betts. I was also okay with the return that we got for him. No one was going to match Betts' production, but nor was it going to cost us $300M plus. Betts was going for the most money. It was time to part ways. With all of the trades made, the impacts are carried over for years, directly or indirectly. Had we not traded Betts, the players that we have acquired or not acquired would be a lot different. For all we know, we might not have Crochet today if we had kept Betts.
  7. I am a Wong fan. I think he would do a lot better if he were playing mostly everyday. Hopefully, he'll do well enough to take a little more playing time from Narvaez this year to help keep Narvaez from getting run down.
  8. OK, I have not been able to watch a spring training game yet. My Extra Innings package, hence my MLB.tv, doesn't kick in until regular season. ☹️ I'm looking forward to Yankees and Red Sox on ESPN on Wednesday.
  9. It's been a loooong week. That said, I can't believe it's already March, and even more unbelievable is that we spring forward on Saturday! Temps in the 70s later this week!
  10. Being the biased fan that I am, it doesn't bother me nearly as much when a Red Sox player does it. If I see a Yankee player showboating after hitting a home run off of a Red Sox pitcher, that's a whole other story. I might even throw a few choice words at the screen. LOL I agree that it's more "acceptable" to admire a long home run or a game-winning walk off home run, but I'd rather not see it at all.
  11. I'd be willing to extend Duran beyond just one year, but definitely no more than three. I understand that Duran is not so young, but the point of extensions is to save money over the free agency price. In doing so, you tend to get the better value deals. I understand that there is also risk involved, but that's a chance I'm willing to take instead of paying outrageous free agency money. I also understand that many people don't care about value, they just want the best player, no matter the cost. I respect that opinion, I just don't agree with it.
  12. I agree that the Red Sox probably won't extend Duran. I'd still do it. Of course, the length of the extension is based on the player's age, so I'm not talking a 5 year extension for him. Two years, maybe three. IMO, the Red Sox should have extended him a couple of years ago. Abreu probably won't get extended because it sounds like he is willing to bet on himself. Translation: Show me the money. Or in other words, he doesn't sound willing to give a team discount, which is essential from the team's standpoint. In spite of Mayer's injury history, I'd take a chance on him.
  13. I would extend Duran in a heartbeat. Of course, I am now of the philosophy that we should lock up pretty much all of our young starting players before they become expensive free agents, including Narvaez, Mayer, and Abreu. I understand the risks involved, but as MVP stated, you get team friendly deals which could turn out to be steals.
  14. I am not a fan of these things either. I guess it's become readily acceptable behavior, but back in the day, you might expect a good beaning in your next at bat after showboating.
  15. To be honest, I don't really like Chapman, based on things we've read about his personal life. However, I can't deny that I love how effective he has been as our closer, and of course, I have to root for him to continue being dominant. I was very skeptical when he was first signed, but he has proven me wrong on the field. I am a big Whitlock fan as our 8th inning guy. Our bullpen looks pretty good, IMO. Bullpens are typically pretty fluid, so we'll see how things shake out.
  16. I'm very glad that Duran is still on the team. I'm glad that Breslow was able to get the pieces he needed without parting with Duran (or any other OFer) or Bello.
  17. Unfortunately, I think status quo for them is going to win the division. :( But don't count the Red Sox out!
  18. Some interesting thoughts here. I do think that fans that post on online forums tend to be more passionate and more invested in their teams, as opposed to casual fans. Would that make them skew to the negative? I'm not sure. I'm guessing, though, that disappointment hits us (forum posters) a lot harder than it does others, hence the need to vent. I am interested to see what kind of year Chapman will have. He was otherworldly last year. I'm sure there will be some regression, but he should still be a very good closer. Fingers crossed.
  19. When you already have a very good team, I think I am more apt to accept this philosophy than most people are. I don't think that you have to make changes just for the sake of making changes. Also, I think there's something to be said for the cohesiveness of the team being largely the same as the previous year. I get that the Yankees could have made some moves and made themselves even better (but at what cost?) But even with their relative lack of moves, they are projected by most to win the division. If I were a Yankees fan, I couldn't be too unhappy about that.
  20. My favorite prediction so far. I wonder what the temperature is like on Yankees forums. My understanding is that the fans are not exactly thrilled about the Yankees offseason.
  21. Yes, it makes sense. I'm still one who would like to see the Red Sox commit to Mayer as an everyday player, but all the points being made about why he should be platooned are valid.
  22. It's always disappointing when your team is eliminated. However, if the team makes it to the playoffs, then I don't think you can really fault the GM if they don't go all the way. There is too much randomness involved in the postseason to really lay blame on anyone. That said, Breslow's job is not finished for the season. There is always room for midseason assessments and improvements, but I am happy with how the team sits entering the season.
  23. To me, yes. I was never on board with the Devers contract. and very relieved to be done with it. Not happy with the loss of 2 draft picks, but that's a different issue, actually.
  24. Double Yikes! Are the coaches pushing the "be more aggressive" mantra today?
