  1. He's a great player, for sure. There is just something so inherently wrong with turning down $440M. It was bad enough when Mookie turned down $300M.
  2. Apparently, every new young superstar player is going to think he deserves to have the highest contract. It's out of control.
  3. The Mariners are looking a lot better than the Sox at the moment. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing the Mariners get in the playoffs, just not at the expense of the Red Sox.
  4. Duran took a lot of heat for not getting vaccinated for the last trip.
  5. Of course, the minute I defend one of our oft criticized players, he has a poor outing.
  6. He's especially fine for the mere $1.4M he's making.
  7. The Red Sox are not going to be full on sellers.
  8. I don't think that the recent funk that the Sox have been in, or Sale's injury, is going to change Bloom's deadline plans very much. The Sox are still very much in contention so I cannot see Bloom selling this team off. The Sox got to this point without Sale, they can continue to contend without Sale. Cora made the very good point that he doesn't need additions, but he needs the guys that are here to do what they are capable of and to play more consistently. I agree. I see Bloom being a buyer, though even when the Sox were going good, I didn't see Bloom making a blockbuster. IMO, he will add some reinforcements and finish out the year with mostly the team we have now.
  9. I feel terrible for the team, but I feel even worse for him personally. He worked so hard to get back and he was looking pretty good. You know this is killing him. I liked how he kept it in perspective, though, and said that someone was having a worse day than he was.
  10. It was speculated that he might have taken the $440M deal for fewer years, thereby raising the AAV. Maybe $440M for 12 years? Either way, that's a crazy amount.
  11. I read something similar this morning. He wants the highest contract in MLB history, but he also wants one of the top AAVs. In other words, it's all about the money and his ego. No thanks.
  12. No, it's really not the team's choice. They might have some control over the decision when signing new players, like Story, but not with players already on their rosters.
  13. Well, without making this any more political than it already is, I disagree with penalizing those who choose not to get vaccinated. Or more accurately, I disagree with penalizing the team for a decision that isn't theirs.
  14. I don't think Bloom will be as willing to part with Barnes as most people here are. It's not a huge contract, but with another year remaining, I think Bloom will give Barnes every opportunity to right himself.
  15. It's possible. They have a tough stretch coming out of the break, but then they have a lot of games remaining against the bottom feeders.
  16. Thank you for this post Nick. I am with you. Not only do I like our chances for this season, but the long term outlook is looking better and better.
  17. 100% If the Sox are going to give out that type of contract, extending Devers would make so much more sense, the biggest reason of which is to save the farm.
  18. Brasier has actually been pretty good since the beginning of June. ERA 3.18, FIP 1.64 Opponents BA .219, OPS .535 WPA .698, RE24 (runs saved) 4.79
  19. The fact that the Sox have not won a single series against the AL East this season is really very fluky considering how well they've played against the other teams. I know the AL East is a tougher division, so you wouldn't expect the record against them to be as good, but you'd expects at least a couple of series wins. Also consider the number of injuries the Sox have been dealing with. The ASB will provide a much needed break. They should come back mostly healthy and ready to go.
  20. Ouch. I tend to agree though. LOL
  21. Things will be interesting and exciting down the stretch. There are so many teams that conceivably could still get in. I've read that MLB is doing away with Game 163 to break any ties. I guess with the 3rd wildcard, that would be too much.
  22. Small samples, but this also aligns mostly with the games played before Toronto and the games played after. I wonder if the scrutiny he was under had any effect. That said, before Toronto, Duran's BABIP was .415. After Toronto, it's .257. It could be just a matter of good breaks versus bad.
  23. !!! Baseball is such an unpredictable game. The hapless Reds not only swept the Rays, but they also beat the Yankees 2 out of 3. And look at what the Mariners are doing. They are really starting to annoy me.
  24. I get it Moon. I really do. The thought of losing Devers does not sit well with me. As I said, if the Sox give Devers that type of deal, I would be thrilled to keep him. I won't be happy with the contract though. If it were my decision between keeping him for that kind of money or letting him walk, I'd reluctantly have to let him walk.
